I just dont understand why it took them so long to tell us. It wasn't till aroound 11pm that they told us it was delayed. They are claiming the DLC went up and throughout the day acting as if it would come out, then finally hear its delayed and they tell us its not the DLC its the Update thats not working, I just think there was a problem all along and they didn't want to be blunt with us..

I've pretty much given up on Valve games for the XBox (and PS3) by now. I've been able to play Cold Stream's beta for free on the PC for the past several months, along with all of the L4D1 campaigns.
I understand the PC must be easier to work with, but.. =/

In addition to #13 & #14's comments, Valve are not console-centric, nor do their games or the Achievements reflect that. L4D1, The Sacrifice. Has it finally been patched yet? Probably not, at a guess.
Valve say they'd release DLC for free but it's Microsoft "forcing" them to charge for it. Does the ME3 MP DLC cost anything? Do other games never have free DLC?
No, of course not. Valve are only too happy to take console gamers money and spend on their PC fanbase. Everyone else, ID with Rage, Bioware with ME3... all of the old PC-focused companies are learning that if they want the money and the loyalty of the core console gamers, they need to be fair with them and put some effort in. Valve never do this, and their small group of niche fanboys defend their actions as if they're the best thing to ever happen to the industry.
Valve deserve nothing from console gamers, not until they fix their shit and make it work as it's supposed to. "Valve time" is even worse than Rare back in the N64 era, except time =/= quality in Valve's case.

@18 Hey, why don't you look at the Peer Review DLC for Portal 2? Come back to me when you find the price.
Do you know why it's that price? Because that's what they released it for on PS3. If it hadn't been on PS3, I guarantee they would have had to charge for it.
The reason why ME3 DLC doesn't cost anything is because in order to access the new weapons/characters, people can (not have to) spend money to unlock them. Do you really think they would get away with double dipping? I guarantee you the ME3 SP DLC will cost money.
Why did you bring up Rage, anyway? It currently has no DLC, aside from the Sewers which costs money if you didn't buy it new.
Also, you CAN get all of the achievements in L4D1 now.

You have it completely arseways.
Valve DO want to give away DLC for free but they can't thanks to the draconian polices enforced by Microsoft. Since L4D is not on another console (i.e. PS3), MS makes the developer charge for any content they release. (And they get a sizeable cut, of course)
Since ME3 is on PS3 also, MS allows the DLC to be free since it is free on their main competitor's platform.
Valve are one of the better companies out there. Microsoft are one of the WORST.

I typically hate when people come in these articles and spout on about pc, but this time it's warranted. Just pick this up on Steam for $4.99 and you will have a constantly updated version with all the dlc. That's cheaper than this dlc and you get everything. My pc is almost 5 years old and runs it fine on all very high settings. Do yourself a favor and pick it up on Steam while it's on sale.

If you're bothered, check out this article that shows how Microsoft are killing the XBLA scene from the inside-out.
Also , in a survey within the article, done with over 200 indie developers, it shows that 64% of devs say that working with Valve(Steam) is "very easy". 0% said it was "Excruciating"
On the other hand, in the same group of Devs, 0% said working with Microsoft was "very easy" while a WHOPPING 48% said it was "excruciating".
They are, according to the survey, the second worst company to work with on games, just ahead of Mobile Phone carriers but miles behind EVERYONE else(Sony, Apple, Google, Ninty etc.)
I like the Xbox, but Microsoft are doing the industry no favours.
In fact, quite the opposite, they're actually harming it.

I'm not a huge L4D fan, but they are great fun to muck about in with mates. I really want to do the campaign on a hard setting but I think I'd just cry if I saw that many zombies if they were harder to kill. Great fun game, though this somewhat eliminates my need for L4D if my L4D2 has basically both games and better gameplay.

Ahh, Valve. Just admit it - you keep dropping these delays to keep the Valve Time meme alive; no person or collection of people is capable of actually making this same mistake over and over, without realizing what happened, what went wrong, why it went wrong, and trying to avoid it in the future. No exaggeration, Valve has NEVER released ANYTHING without at least one delay (as far as I know, this includes all DLC and updates, not just full games). Protip, Valve: Don't announce a release date for a product until you *know* that you can release the product on said date. I understand that delays happen here and there for everybody, but for Valve, it's their MO and I'm starting to get tired of seeing these news posts and all of the people's predictable posts concerning said subject.
On the bright side, I had no idea it was coming out in the first place, and the fact that it's including every single campaign from the first game (although the post says "maps," so I hope they didn't just take the last map from each campaign or something and put it in. Any way that you look at it, though, that's a really good amount of stuff for $7 (especially since that's what Crash Course alone, costs for the first game). Looking forward to it.

@54 Let's be honest here it's not as difficult or expensive to build a great PC as people like to tell you it is (mainly because they've never done it in their lives and think it's some kind of evil nerd magic).
If you did bother you'd have a great PC for your daily needs. You could play L4D2 on it and you could start getting into other games aswell. Steam/Amazon/Newegg etc always have good deals and you can get most of your games for less, loads of great (and not so great) user created mods, and plenty of free DLC to boot compared to console. Only real issue is that console in some cases gets DLC first due to Microsoft paying the Developers loads for a months time of exclusivity. Which by then means that 360 gets loads of bugs and they're fixxed for PC before a patch gets through MS' cert for the console version.
Don't listen to the fearmongering of upgrading every month or whatever that hogwash the ignorants spit out on a regular basis. I can tell you from experience my PC has been running great for over 5 years running everything on High - Ultra. It was only because by chance something broke in the Graphics Card last Sunday that I need to upgrade just that one part and really the decision to upgrade was one of my own I could've just boughten a replacement part.

Already private messaged this guy this but Ill show it for the world to see.
You believe Valve is lying when they say Microsoft forces them to charge for dlc. Those people are completely clueless. They've said themselves that Microsoft forces developers to charge 800 ms points at least for substantial dlc addons. In addition to this Microsoft takes 70% of the earnings of DLC while the developer takes 30%. Valve DROPPED their 30% from all the left 4 dead dlc, making it 560 instead of 800.
So you accuse them of taking dlc money and spending on the pc community when in fact, still to this day, Valve has NEVER made a cent off of dlc. You wonder why they dont like working with consoles and their companies when they end up spending 10x as much to support their games on them and go through 10x as many loopholes. On the pc, patches can take a day and cost nothing, on xbox they can take weeks and cost tens of thousands of dollars.
And on an unrelated and opinionated note, time does equal quality in Valves sense as all of their games are awesome in my opinion, and I think the world agrees as well as almost all their games have over 90% metacritic scores and have huge communities and fanbases even 5-10 years after their releases.

@56 : My response PM.
Still doesn't help anyone when the new Achievements end up being unobtainable. And I never found the appeal of most of their games. Portal is by far the worst, The Orange Box has TF2 which is not supported and is glitched to crap. HL2 felt last gen, Episode 1 was decent but nothing special, Episode 2 was great.
L4D1 is decent but obviously gets shafted by the bugs and the mediocrity of the support, unlike PC. L4D2 is much of the same with worse characters but better gameplay.
In short, Valve take ages to do anything, what they make isn't special from a gaming standpoint and I find their games decidedly average, plus they release buggy DLCs that they take at least a year to patch if ever. If you're going to take that long, and charge people (whether it's MS forcing the charge or not), the very least you could do is ensure the basic things work properly (ie trigger points, Achievements).
The fact that they seem to prioritise PC and the Xbox 360 versions always have a variable degree of issues, seems to suggest that like I believe, they genuinely don't give 2 shits.
