Remember Me
Capcom Planning "Long-Term Future" for Remember Me
Written By
View author's profile

Like the look of Remember Me? Good, because you may be seeing far more of it in the years to come. Unveiled at Gamescom 2012, Remember Me figures rather largely in Capcom’s future plans.

“When Dontnod showed us their content it really jumped out,” said Capcom’s US and Europe marketing chief Michael Pattison. “And we couldn’t not work with them. It is to a view that this will be a long-term partnership with them. This is Capcom’s IP. We do intend to work on it for a long time to come.”

“It is something that we see as having a long-term future, and we are investing in accordingly.”

Sounds like Capcom is giving Remember Me some serious attention. Quite the turnaround for a game that was dumped by Sony less than a year ago. It's out in May next year.

It does look very pretty. But yet… Capcom.

Will be approaching it with cautious optimism.

Good to hear, looks like its going to be a decent franchise, its about time we saw a game that broke away from the norm and tried something different

Oh and @2, whats wrong with capcom? they've brought out quite a few AAA franchises in the past... Street fighter, DMC, Resident evil to name a few...

@4 my main issue with them is their approach to additional content and their seeming lack of respect for gamers who support their company. I understand that they are running a business, but I don't appreciate how they run it. I also think they've watered down a lot of their key franchises lately, Resident Evil being the main culprit.

Apart from that, I'm just personally not a fan of their games. Didn't enjoy any of the DMC or Resident Evil games after the first few and I just plain suck at fighting games. I hope Remember Me is good and I am impressed with what I've seen so far, and I hope that people who are fans of their games enjoy it as well.

Good stuff, Was thoroughly impressed by the gameplay footage, Thing game has a whole Assassins Creed meets Watch Dogs in a Deus Ex world kind of vibe.

Looks like Inception meets Deus Ex meets Assassin's Creed.... Sounds like a damn fine mix to me, looks pretty awesome too, one to keep an eye on methinks and hopefully Capcom will do a multi-platform release if not actually a 360 exclusive...

Definitely has my attention. I agree that Capcom has been kind of an iffy company lately, but I was really impressed with what I have played of Dragon's Dogma, and this game looks fantastic. Here's hoping the game is great. As of right now, I'm expecting big things from this new studio.

I've always said capcom never truly fails, yet they never win either lol. Re5 and lp2 are goof examples of games that were great, but potentially much better if not for some small annoyances. I still stand by the fact that making dogma a co-op game didn't mean the single player AI needed to suck. There are games that have both so people can play it their way. All great games but always something that makes me scratch my head and ask "why"

#5 is pretty spot on with how capcom seems to enjoy milking a game that is fully developed by locking away content on disk, or as they plan on doing now, keep it off disc but still charge it day 1.

Add that to the fact they canned just about everything Megaman (Okay, I'll admit lately it was mostly junk anyway) including the long awaited Legends 3, capcom is put on quite a few gamers shit list. Including mine.

Dragons Dogma gave me some faith back, but that was also plagued with locked-disk content as well. It's a very love-hate...but leaning more toward hate these days.

If it wasnt for achievements and some wierd ideas then LP2 would be top 5 of all the 360 games ive played. Capcom has been a company that ive trusted for atleast 15 years now. Recent whine about capcom hasnt changed what i think about them

Capcom apparently say they're going to make up for their dlc model of disc locked content. We'll see just how much they make up for it.
Day 1 dlc is becoming common and probably won't change anytime soon, especially as development of a game continues after the game goes gold.
I generally don't mind too much about day 1 dlc as long as they don't take the piss. I'm hoping Capcom really does make up for their previous model especially with this new and potentially good IP.

All I'm hearing is "Lol DLC".

But we'll see what happens. Excited for this. Almost solely because it's an actual new IP from Capcom.

I don't trust Capcom. Their games have a clunky feel to them and the worst achievements ever. They surprised me with Dragons Dogma though. That is one of my favorite games yet. So this is a day one buy for me so far but I feel the need to be cautious about it. Looking forward to hearing more about this.

By that they mean they're taking content off the disk selling later for obscene amounts of money. Is that your idea of a "long term future".

Hmmm....If EA, being the evil cooperation that they, published a rare gem like Mirror's Edge then perhaps so can Capcom. However!!! If hear even a peep about day 1 DLC or disk locked content then I will blacklist this game from my pre-order list alongside Resident Evil 6 and the new emo DMC.

The entire industry owes a hell of a lot to Capcom and Konami, perhaps moreso nowadays than Nintendo, which receives far too much credit for their work given the damage caused by senile granddaddy Miyamoto's grand fuck-ups from 2007 onwards.

Keiji Inafune called it straight and knows the score, and whilst Capcom made the awful decision of Disc-Locked Content which they recently proposed to scrap, they are still one the best and strongest hopes for the resurgence of the japanese gaming industry. Square Enix expanded into taking on projects like Deus Ex and Konami and Capcom are playing it safe for the most part with remakes and sequels to long-established franchises.

Still, I believe a resurgence is underway, I've called every major shift over the last 10 years and people are starting to tire of the western gaming market once again, so it's up to companies like Capcom to take this opportunity to grab people back in. As much as I've had grievances with lots of japanese devs over the last 7 years, the west still has plenty to learn in terms of making genuinely mind-blowing content. No-one can take you to the old-school arcade days like these guys can and I look forward to seeing them make something totally new for a change.

An interesting time to be a Developer btw, an obvious change is coming, but no-one really knows where the dust will settle. The FPS Generation is now a sizable demographic, but the old-school are still there too. With Casuals and constant attempts at reeling in newcomers as well, I wonder where that will leave the mindset of the average or new gamer. Will they be loyal to MS having grown up with them? Will the deluge of FPS content make them love or hate the genre in the future? Will old franchises like Street Fighter manage to bring in new blood and make a strong comeback (which has partially succeeded already imo)?

I have to admit, this game looks pretty amazing. I'm not usually one for memory-loss plots (FFVII really screwed that up) but something about Remember Me makes me want to play it. Hopefully we can get a demo or more lengthy trailers in the near future.
