Borderlands 2
Gearbox Working on "a Few" Next-Gen Titles, Pitchford Talks Motion Controls

Gearbox Studios has “a few things” in development for next generation consoles, says Randy Pitchford. He’s rather excited about them too.

In a recent interview Pichford said, “We’ve got a few things going on right now that we haven’t talked about but that’ll appear later.

“I’m always excited by movement forward,” he continued. “Some of that comes from iteration with our software, and some of it comes from iteration with hardware, and some of it comes from invention… each new step kind of gives us new tools and new capabilities that always makes the entertainment better, if we use it right.

“More power is always better. There’s always things we can do that we cannot do today that we can do with more power. So, that’s always true.”

Pichford also had this amusing thing to say about the future of motion controls. “Who knows what that is?,” he said. “I don’t really care.”

Except he does! Because he added, “There are so many steps between now and the holodeck, or between now and The Matrix,” he said, “and any number of those steps could be tested or introduced either as gimmicks or as potentials to new standards in any given hardware attempts.

“Those are always exciting.”

Borderlands 2 is out on September 18th in North America and September 21st in Europe. Read our latest preview here.

Can't wait to pick up my loot chest, then it'll probably take at least an hour to decide what character to play...

I'd rather play a game with a controller and not have any motion controls..

I think I might be one of the few not looking forward to next generation hardware. I'm perfectly content with where we are with our games. Thanks Xbox.

Why has #1 already got 2 thumbs down? I'd also like another Duke game (not that I didn't enjoy the last one).

Also that screenshot of BL2 looks epic...!

im not really looking forward to a next gen console,i am quite happy with my xbox360,loads of life left in it yet in my opinion, why should i pay a fortune for a new console,i might get slightly better graphics, but i cant see the gameplay improving as long as we are still getting cod and gears clones

@7 because Duke shouldn't have got a remake. it was a classic that will never be forgotten as it was, and some classics are just better left untouched... look what happened to the Star Wars films.
and as we discovered with Duke Nukem Forever, things like Duke should be left as the classics they already are.

Considering that wasn't a remake and it was the game that 3d realms intended for you to have years ago... the fact that people still cant understand that after numerous explanations makes me sad that humanity still cannot take in simple information and process it.

Dear Mr. Pitchford -

At the very least, do not add motion controls to Borderlands.

That game series will never need it and we will all hate you for implementing it.

@13 yeh i know it wasn't a direct remake, i didn't really mean remake actually, that was a poorly chosen word there, i admit that.
i meant more 'revamp' i suppose? as in, to update it, bring it back, and bring into modern times....

@17 It wasn't anything like that. They took the reigns to just get it released. It wasn't a matter of putting out the best Duke Nukem game to date (tbh, it IS the best Duke Nukem to date, it just doesn't hold up to current times), it was about actually getting it released since it was in production hell for 15 years. They did what a lot of people thought wouldn't happen.

If they planning to make a next Brothers In Arms on the next-gen consoles i will be more then happy. There is still much they can do and sure they can follow Baker & Red into the heart of the third reich or so because thats the next logical step into baker company,s track record. When Mister Pitchford talks about more power in terms of the next-gen, then yes there is def enough potential and we can expect graphics PC like.

What a dumb, sarcastic comment. It IS an inconvenience to have to use more than one disc to play a game on a console. It was acceptable back on the Playstation when there weren't real alternatives, but it was Microsoft's call to go with DVDs rather than Blueray. Speaking for myself, I've gotten games for the PS3 instead of the 360 in some cases where I knew more than one disc would be required.
