The latest dose of DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has dropped today, and is available to download, snap up and consume as you see fit today. Hearthfire is up on Xbox Live this minute, bringing a host of new features to Skyrim.

Centred around a host of new domestic gubbins for Bethesda's epic RPG, Hearthfire adds the ability to buy a piece of land and build a new home upon it, with a lovely kitchen, greenhouse, library, alchemy lab and trophy room. Suck it, Grand Designs!

In the outdoors bit of your homestead, you'll also be able to set up gardens, fish hatcheries and beehives, while indoors you can have a steward to keep everything ticking along nicely while you're away killing dragons. You can also adopt and raise younglings in Hearthfire.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hearthfire is available now (providing Xbox Live is back up and running) and it'll cost you 400 of your magical Microsoft Points. Trailer below!

Hmmm I was hoping it would be free considering it adds hardly any gameplay. But I suppose 400 isn't too harsh.

I have a question for anyone who has played it. (stuck at work) Human children only? Would just feel weird with my Orc adopting a human child.

@19, no, you can't, mod only, otherwise skyrim, or hearthfire at the least, would be banned in the uk (not sure about US or anywhere else). You'll have to get the mod for the pc version.

@21,
Never really understood why killing children is considered so taboo, I know its a bad thing, but at what age does it become OK, to kill a fake digital person?

@24,
I never said i wanted to kill a child, I just said I'm confused as to why no game out there gives you the option, (apart from one game that was recently released but I won't tell you the name of the game in case I spoil it for someone)

How is killing a child any different to killing an adult?

Is it because a child is deemed as helpless? if so then why it it OK to kill the elderly in video games?

Skyrim was barely an RPG to begin with, now bethesda are trying to make it into SkySims.

And when beth have finished all of skyrim's DLC's, people will still look back and say "that was one of the best RPG's ever".

RPG's used to games where character customization was more than aesthetic differences, where countless grindy fetch quests didn't mean the game world was commendably big and engaging, where choice and consequence mattered (or were at least present) and you could actually have an effect on the world.

I'll give this a pass. I love Skyrim, but I doubt I will waste much time playing house. I have my own family and bills to worry about. No need to add virtual ones LOL Speaking of which how high are the taxes on this house?

@ 30
The comments section is a place for opinions and observations, not just adoration for the game in question.

If there is one company that's successful in making (so-called) RPG's, it's Bethesda and yet game by game, DLC by DLC, they have changed or watered down (depending on your point of view) the definition of an RPG.
Most people I know think that the most important quality of an RPG is exploration. Bethesda is the main culprit for this mindset as their games are incredibly successful.
Now they are making Sims style DLC's to add to the game.

It will add to the success of their "RPG". More devs will focus on interior design and exploration over what makes RPG's great because they think it will sell well. It's likely that we will see more shallow reality simulators masquerading as RPG's and fewer quality AAA RPG's. Beth will probably give the next Fallout (one of my absolute favorite series) a similar treatment. I am allowed to be angry about this and voice my opinion.

@27 In Fallout 1 & 2 you could kill children in very gruesome ways. After you killed two or more you would be labeled a Child Killer & would be hated by most.

@32 Dawnstar Jarl, Morthal Steward, Falkreath Steward. All 5,000 gold. Although for me, and found others on google, there is no dialogue option in Falkreath. Pissed off is an understatement, bugs galore again Bethesda, should have waited for the patch.

Not out on PC yet? Good then this must be the last of the 30 day exclusivity add-ons for Skyrim. Thank the lord now when the next actual expansion comes out we can just dl it.

We'll be missing out on the console guys bug testing for us but that's alright.

@44 the exclusivity deal was for the major expansions. this, is not. I wouldn't even consider this proper DLC. And anyone that does is crazy, or a fanboy. as has been stated, this could have easily just been patched in. In this case, just because it has achievements does not mean it's proper DLC.

Tyhe adoption part is easy, if you own a house, just talk to the Jarls steward, and as to revamp a part of your house to have childrens beds. Boom, achievement. Also, I adopted 2 kids, seems like that was the max even though the house i build has 4 childrens beds, idk.
