Former Capcom Global Head of Production and Mega Man maestro Keiji Inafune has announced his latest project today. Codenamed 'Yaiba', it's an action title featuring zombies, ninjas and robots. It already sounds like it could well be one to watch.
In development at Inafune's Comcept studio, details on Yaiba are currently thin on the ground, and no platforms have yet been confirmed for the project. Beyond a brief teaser trailer exclaiming that "THE DEAD WILL DIE AGAIN" and a statement from Inafune himself, little is known about Yaiba.
Departing Capcom in December 2010, Inafune's statement reflects on his next project and the expectations of the fans. "Everywhere I go, people ask: “Are you working on it?” “ When is it coming?” The expectation seems higher in the west," Inafune mused.
"The expectation is clear. It’s for my next zombie game. There are countless zombie games out there, and yet, people say they want to see a new Inafune zombie game," he added. "I am flattered and grateful, for people associating me as a “Zombie Lover”. For that, I must, answer to this expectation."
Inafune continued to reveal the idea behind Yaiba: "This new concept for my game was born some time after becoming independent. I don’t want to spoil everything just yet, but I hope you will enjoy my new game that is loaded with stuff I love, zombies, ninjas, robots, and action. It’s called “YAIBA”. I hope you are excited. I know I am."
Yaiba seems like it could be a perfect fit for consoles, so we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for the game on Xbox 360. Until then, check out the teaser trailer.
