Is XCOM Now a Squad-Based, Downloadable Third-Person Shooter?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is gonna be ace. We know that. But what we don’t know is the current status of the other XCOM title in development.
SImply called XCOM, the game was announced before Firaxis’ turn-based strategy title, yet has gone suspiciously quiet of late. Now there’s evidence to suggest it may have undergone something of a transformation.
That evidence comes via a recent 2K marketing survey which suggests that XCOM may now be a squad-based, third-person downloadable title, not the disc-based FPS it was conceived as.
Instead of romping around maps in first person, blasting aliens as you go, it would seem that XCOM may now have you commanding a squad of agents, positioning them around the environment and issuing orders.
For its part, 2K is unsurprisingly reluctant to confirm anything, saying "We have not made any new announcements regarding the XCOM title currently in development at 2K Marin, and it is our policy not to comment on rumors or speculation."
The jump from a $60 retail title to a $30 downloadable is not unprecedented. After all, I Am Alive made such a move earlier this year with interesting results.
Considering the industry whispers regarding XCOM’s development struggles, there’s an air of authenticity to these latest reports.
