Having formed a new studio comprised of People Can Fly and Bulletstorm alumni, The Astronauts have declared that while its first game will be powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, it won't be a shooter.
Founded by ex-People Can Fly devs Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki, The Astronauts is looking to release its debut effort in 2013. A post on the studio's official site clears up any speculations about it being a shooter however.
“Guys, we are not making a shooter,” says the post. “Let us repeat that: we are not making a shooter.”
“And it’s actually silly to talk about ‘yet another Unreal Engine game’ when some of the best, most unique games in the world are made with exactly that particular tech (Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dishonored, etc.)”
Furthermore, The Astronauts won't be working with former Epic Design Director Cliff Bleszinski, and nor will it be funding its first game using Kickstarter.
“Kickstarter is not just a fantastic funding platform, but also a highly effective marketing tool (whether we like it or not). But we would have a hard time explaining our first game to the public without having it half done already.”
