Ex-Bulletstorm Dev's Studio The Astronauts' First Game Won't be a Shooter

Having formed a new studio comprised of People Can Fly and Bulletstorm alumni, The Astronauts have declared that while its first game will be powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, it won't be a shooter.

Founded by ex-People Can Fly devs Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki, The Astronauts is looking to release its debut effort in 2013. A post on the studio's official site clears up any speculations about it being a shooter however.

“Guys, we are not making a shooter,” says the post. “Let us repeat that: we are not making a shooter.”

“And it’s actually silly to talk about ‘yet another Unreal Engine game’ when some of the best, most unique games in the world are made with exactly that particular tech (Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dishonored, etc.)”

Furthermore, The Astronauts won't be working with former Epic Design Director Cliff Bleszinski, and nor will it be funding its first game using Kickstarter.

“Kickstarter is not just a fantastic funding platform, but also a highly effective marketing tool (whether we like it or not). But we would have a hard time explaining our first game to the public without having it half done already.”

Wait? A company is working on a game, and it's not a shooter? Is that even legal outside Nintendo?

PCF guys not making a shooter? Uh-oh. Good think we have some of the guys from the old PCF working with Farm 51 then. They're making a proper shooter.

Could be an RPG, some kind of sports game, or some new groundbreaking thing that nobody's ever seen before.

...or a sports game.

It's a shame Epic doesn't want to make a Bulletstorm 2... One of the most enjoyable shooters there was, IMO.

@13 - Yeah. They started on it, but then Epic pulled the plug. Shits.
