BioWare has revealed a few new details about Dragon Age III: Inquisition, along with some sexy new concept art.

Speaking at the inaugural Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo, Bioware said that Dragon Age III was in pre-production longer than Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect or Dragon Age 2.

It will feature vastly increased character and follower customisation and much larger levels than the previous game in the series. Cinematic designer Jon Perry boasting that "one level in Dragon Age III is as big as all of the levels in Dragon Age 2.”

He also hinted that the game will allow you you take control of your own castle. You can see that castle, along with a bunch of fresh concept art, below.

Dragon Age III: Inquisition was officially announced last month.

That's not saying much, is it?

Since Ray and Greg resigned I'm concerned that Bioware no longer have any protection at all from EA Interference (although that protection had clearly dwindled even with Ray and Greg at the studio), therefore, as a fan of Dragon Age, I'm a bit worried.

I'll not judge the game yet, but I'm concerned that we saw the end of an era with DA:O. With the departures of Ray and Greg, I don't think we're likely to see anything of that depth from the studio in the near future.

Well, not too fussed on this, Dragon Age 2 was fucking terrible compared to the first one.

Origins was amazing, one of thew few games that has really captured my attention and praise in the last 10 years. By contrast, its sequel felt rushed and lacking...just ugh.

I really enjoyed the story telling in DA2 (for my mony, a better game than DA). I'll be buying DA3 on release.

Dragon Age 2 wasn't a bad game the problem is they just kept re-using certain levels over and over and over and over.

@2: I was gonna say the same thing! One level bigger than all the levels of DA2 combined? There were only 4 different levels in the game to begin with! I'm really excited for this game, though. Origins was awesome and all the DLC add-ons for that game made a great game even better. If they can take the depth of Origins and the voice-work of DA2, then I'll be one happy gamer.

Is anyone else concerned a promise from another developer of bigger and better. Feel like every time a developer promises something on a game I am looking forward to, they fail to deliver fully...

The original concept behind DAII sounded promising. Follow the character's life for ten years and the growth/change of a city. Didn't really get that. No, being able to dwarf the size of a neutered sequel is not impressive. It just highlights in most cases your screw-up the first time around (in this case the second since no-one of sound mental faculties can say DA:O was lacking with the expansion/DLC support it received afterwards as well as the core game having plenty to do on its own).

I hope gameplay includes more of da1 style to it. Wasn't a big fan of 2 in comparison. Day 1 for me I think.

Bioware's last 3 or 4 games have been massive disappointments. Not really looking forward to this.

Glad to see that they seem to take this game much more seriously thatn DA2. Let's keep the fingers crossed that it will be a massive hit.

Is Peter Molyneux working for BioWare now?

They had me at "will feature vastly increased character and follower customisation". Reading "the game will allow you you take control of your own castle." didn't hurt my hype for this game at all either (quite the opposite)! :D

well i loved the other 2 DA games and will be getting this 1 but i got 1 thing to say.

" one level in DA:3 is as big as all the levels in DA:2 "

ok so we are still stuck in level land? why not just make it a vast enviorment ( cant spell lol ) and have the loading screens just happen when we enter towns.

I.E. Skyrim

or if the game works similar to The Witcher then ill b in love and retract what i said lol

I actually liked Dragon Age 2, not saying it didn't get repetitive or that it was better than Origins but I liked it. I might preorder this one

Follower customization is great but I will miss being able to select who I really play as. Hopefully they can redefine this by giving the player a lot of personal customization within the human role (personal origins) and allow you to rally up a diverse team from the other denizens of the world. Follower customization also has me wondering about the development of substantial or iconic characters like we saw from the first game and to an extent in the second one. If Bioware does decide to move totally toward freedom of follower customization then I hope that it is strong enough for each player to create their own memorable and iconic characters. That requires a lot of prep, programming and consideration but it is not impossible.

Ah, and before I forget I have a question to ask you all: Do you think that future games in series such as Dragon Age or Mass Effect that the fans should be allowed to create story input? You know, integrated mods, writing, characters and the like. It worked fantastically for the preservation and continuance of Star Wars (also with an obvious strong fan following).

Interesting. A couple games ago I'd be instantly excited because it's a BioWare game, but after the rush-job of DA2 and the poor ending of ME3 I'm going to be a bit more cautious about future Bio games. (Unlike a lot of people, I don't hate DA2, but it did clearly suffer from being rushed out the door before it was really ready, and I still really like ME3, despite the bad ending. It's just after such mistakes, I'm going to wait on future BioWare games before I get them.) Hopefully DA3 won't be rushed out the door like DA2 was, and it hopefully won't end with a boss fight with over-the-top crap in it like DA2 does.

@3 - Keep in mind that Greg and Ray were there when Dragon Age II, The Old Republic, and Mass Effect 3 were made which are considered by many to be atrocities. If anything with Greg and Ray gone with the popular track record, it should in theory have a good chance of IMPROVING.

I'm actually pretty excited about this. Okay so that's two Bioware series that have made it to three, but my favorite is still a no go. :(

This sounds great, i am very excited. I loved both Dragon Age games so buzzing for this one. For all those guys who still worship DA:O though, wake up and smell the roses. I loved that game, is one of my favourites, so don't grill me, but it had many flaws and was far from perfect.

Hopefully not actively working on a mass effect game at the same time will bring us back to the quality days of Origins.
