Darksiders II Dev Vigil Games Loses Joe Madureira, THQ Teases New DLC

It's a double dose of Darksiders II news, both bad and good. As is tradition, we'll give you the bad news first. Vigil Games' comic book legend, whose art style has informed the look of both Darksiders games has departed the studio. Creative Director Joe Madureira has left Vigil to return to comics, which while upsetting for gamers, is fantastic news for comic book fans. His run on the X-Men comics are some of the most memorable (the Onslaught saga for instance).

"So long @Vigilgames @THQ," Madureira tweeted. "Thanks for all the memories! @Darksiders was definitely a career highlight. Keep on kicking ass I'm a fan for life!"

Madureira goes on: "I could not be more proud of what we achieved, or the awesome people who helped build up this studio. I can safely say Vigil's future is in very good hands, so expect only awesomeness down the road. This feels surreal... I miss the place already."

Now the good news. THQ has teased new Darksiders II DLC with a single, not particularly revelatory image via its Darksiders Twitter page. "A new adventure awaits Death! Retweet if you're excited," reads the tweet. Check out the image below. It shows Death walking towards a menacing looking temple. Ooh!

The loss of Joe Mad is a big blow for character design in any upcoming games from Vigil. I hope that there is sufficient existing concept art to cover any future Darksiders sequels.

Ouch cant be good news for a possible Darksiders 3. If it still goes ahead, hope the art looks as amazing as the last two.

Still, 2 only just came out so thats along way off yet!

The undead realm dragged on for too long in D2, I wish they spaced everything out between the heaven and hell realm too.

That's a real shame to read! One of the main things that caught my eye in the first place was how much Darksiders looked like Joe Mad's work -Then i found out he was the creative director on these games. Massive loss for Vigil.
Still great to see he's returning to comics. Fingers crossed we may just get a conclusion to Battle Chasers after all?
