As Assassin's Creed III welcomes Connor as its new historical assassin protagonist, it might simultaneously be waving goodbye to the series' lynchpin in the modern day, Desmond Miles. Assassin's Creed III's Lead Designer, Steve Masters has suggested that the upcoming Creed sequel might be the last to star Desmond, as Ubisoft strives to "bring some finality" to his story.
"What we're trying to do is bring some finality to Desmond's story," Masters told OXM. "To actually wrap up what you've opened and experienced with him. So we're trying to make it a little bit more direct with the storyline, but at the same time there are still going to be plenty of little mysterious bits for you to dig into, especially in the side stuff."
Apparently, Ubisoft is also aware of the stalling tactics it's been adopting to spin out Desmond's story, with a succession of cliffhangers at the end of each game. "We wanted there to be a big leap forward in the story," Masters declared, pertaining to ACIII. "And we wanted you to feel a good sense of progress in what's going on in the story. A lot of the misdirection and the way we've been meandering a little bit has been kind of frustrating as a player and for the audience, so we wanted to make sure there was going to be more substance to get your teeth into."
In just over a weeks' time, all will become that little bit clearer when Assassin's Creed III releases on October 30th in North America and on October 31st in Europe. Will it be Desmond's last hurrah? We'll have to wait to find out. Check out the vid below to catch up with our Des in the meantime.
