The first downloadable content for XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been announced and detailed.

The Slingshot Content Pack is a new set of linked Council missions in which, “gamers will meet an enigmatic Triad operative, divert an alien ship's course, and do battle with the aliens in the skies over China.”

The pack includes three new maps tied to the Council missions and a new playable squad character with a unique story and voice. The release date and price are to be revealed at a later date.

2K also mentioned a second piece of single-player focused DLC, but it has yet to be revealed.

In addition to this The Elite Soldier Pack, free for those who pre-ordered XCOM: Enemy Unknown or purchased it at launch, is now available for purchase for 400 Microsoft Points over Xbox Live. It includes the following content:

Classic X-COM soldier: Players will instantly receive a new recruit in their barracks inspired by the original X-COM: UFO
Defense. The iconic soldier with the blonde, flattop hairstyle will return fully modernized.

Soldier Deco packs: Players can customize their soldier with several aesthetic upgrades to armor suits, including the new Hyperion and Reaper soldier armor kits.

Complete color customization: A variety of colors and tints for all armor sets in the game allow players complete control to customize their squad's look.

The elite soldier pack isn't worth 400msp - I got it free when I bought the game and it isn't really a *vital* piece. Save your points unless you are a die-hard fan of the series.

(Side note: If you haven't got the game yet, stop looking at x360a and go buy it - it is excellent!)

I spend lots of time giving my little soldier men different helmets and colour combos, they look like the squad out of Reach.

I was waiting for this news, woooo.

As much as I want this game, I know that in two weeks or so I'll be able to pick it up for half of it's launch price, which is in some ways a shame as it probably won't get the recognition it deserves.

I got Elite Soldier Pack free and I'd be extremely please paying 400 MSP for it. Customizing your soldiers really adds to the attachment which adds to the gameplay. If you're the type who reloads the previous save if things aren't 100% perfect then you probably won't care.

As for the DLC, extremely excited for it.

I have the Elite Soldier Pack (free with preorder) and I didnt get the new recruit inspired by XCOM UFO Defense or the Hyperion and Reaper armor kits I only got the color variations and since I have never played the game without the Elite Soldier Pack Im not even really sure how many color variations are part of the pack and which ones are originally in the game but Im pretty sure changing my hair and armor into fluorescent color schemes was not intended to be in the original game unless it was in which case I might not of even gotten the color variations either but I do know for a fact that I have the Elite Soldier Pack installed more on point Im glad they are coming out with DLC for this game it is amazing and super addicting

@7, have you even looked at the reviews?
Besides, I think it's doing better than Dishonored in the UK which is a surprise.

I'm hoping this is this years Deus Ex. A great game, ignored by too many people, then available for half price in a couple of months. With HItman and (sigh) CoD to get before Xmas, this is definitely getting bought when it hits £20 (hopefully) in January.
