Here’s a new gameplay vid for DmC: Devil May Cry, taking in one of the game’s early environments.

Capcom Unity adds, “You’ll spot a snazzy helm breaker cancel-fest around 1:35, a very well-placed evade cancel at 1:44, and some mid-combo weapon switching at about 1:49. The player also uses a stationary air evade to extend his air time for a beat at about 2:06.”

Um, yeah. I saw that.

DmC: Devil May Cry is out on January 15th, 2013.

@4 I'm not talking about the Dante from Dmc 1,2,3,4... I meant the "black haired" Dante their both different and this one uses a scythe and a axe. Not the same as the other Dante.

@5 He is actually the same person. You know that right? Dante had different weapons in every game. Except for his sword of course. Also he had gauntlets/greaves in 1, 3, and 4. But guess what! Both of those are back.

@8 - Thanks for your input.

Very excited for this, a lot of hardcore DMC fans are mad about this new direction, but deep down I'm sure any sane person knows it needed a new beginning.

@9 How is this not Dante? It's still him. He's still the son of sparda. He's still the brother of Vergil. He's still fighting Mundus. He's still a smartass. He still has all of his signature weapons.

@Assapopulas (#6 #7 and #12) This is a complete reboot of the franchise. Its not a prequel or a spin off. There is no such thing as "the same" Dante. Its essentially as if the DMC franchise never existed and this is the first DMC game. Its just like the upcoming Tomb Raider game. Yes its the same character but its a reinvention of everything that character is and stands for completely unrelated to an previous incarnations of said character. Make sense?

I know it's a reinvention of the same character. That pretty much makes him the same character. All they did was go back to the beginning and take it in a different direction. But everyone is freaking out over the way that Dante looks and it irritates the shit out of me. I guarantee you that if "this Dante" still looked the way he did in the other DMC games, that everyone would be excited for this game. I've played and loved every Devil May Cry game and I cannot wait for this one. I think it looks amazing. I hate that people are going to write off this amazing title just because they're butt-hurt about Dante looking a little different. The great and stylish gameplay that we all know and love is still here guys. And after all the negative feedback on the new look, I would be very surprised if they didn't have a costume that looks like DMC 1, 2, 3, 4 Dante. There have always been unlockable custumes in DMC games. Except for 4, they only had the super versions.

Took the words right out of my mouth, including the Tomb Raider bit. They may have the same name and there may be some similarities, but there are also quite a few differences that one cannot simply overlook (not just talking about hair here, in case you were wondering). It's not just that, another reason why you can't really say that they are the same character is that there isn't any connection or continuity or whatever you call it between the pre-reboot and post-reboot stories. (Well, at least Dante still has a brother named Vergil and fights this demon bad guy called Mundus. For Lara, there is nothing. None of the side-characters from the old games make an appearance, and they even replaced her signature dual pistols with a bow, lol.)
But it's supposed to be that way, it's a reboot after all. What's the point in rebooting something if you keep everything exactly the same, lol.

@14 If you've played every DMC game, then you obviously still don't see the glaring differences. That makes me think you're using it as an excuse.

An excuse? The gameplay still looks like Devil May Cry. Isn't that what matters most in the end? Yeah the story is going in a bit of a different direction but so what? It's still the same characters. Dante doesn't seem to act any different than the way young Dante did in DMC3.

And I have played all of them. I rented DMC2 from Blockbuster way back in the day and I've been in love with the series ever since. I am extremely excited for this game and I just hate to see it being written off for the wrong reasons. That's all I'm saying.

I just hope Capcom does not fuck this franchise the way they did with Resident Evil.
Rebooting a franchise is acceptable, but completelly changing it´s genre is not.
Also, the only thing that doesn´t make me happy with this new Dante is the undeniable fact he´s looking like a fucking emo.
And emos are not bad-asses. Never will.
