Tom Hardy is set to take on Tom Clancy, as the actor who played Bane in the Dark Knight Rises has signed on to play Sam Fisher in Ubisoft's movie adaptation of Splinter Cell. Eric Warren Singer, who also wrote th 2009 Clive Owen action thriller 'The International' is on board to pen the script, while Ubisoft is still in talks with studios.

Apparently, Ubisoft has held preliminary talks with Warner Bros and Paramount about the Splinter Cell movie. The Assassin's Creed movie meanwhile, which is set to star Michael Fassbender is with New Regency and Fox. There's no plot details for Splinter Cell as yet, with Variety simply reporting that Hardy will play Fisher.

"Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "His involvement in the 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell' movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and ... we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story ... while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."

There's no date as yet for the Splinter Cell movie, but Splinter Cell: Blacklist is out in 2013.

Itredasting. Tom Hardy was amazing in TDKR. The way he captured the raw anger and energy of Bane in the fight with Batman at the end was amazing.

Great actor. I'm not sure he's right for Sam Fisher, but, there is nothing to say that the film will even feature Sam. It could follow a different Splinter Cell altogether.

In fact, to be honest, they might be better off doing that.

Then they could get Ironside in for a cameo ;)

Jeffrey Dean Morgan should've been Sam Fisher. My second choice would be Gerard Butler.
Hardy's still too young.

@5 There's been a Metal Gear movie in the works for a few weeks now:
"Speaking at Metal Gear's 25th anniversary party in Tokyo recently, series creator Hideo Kojima revealed that not only is the film version back in the works, but the man behind the Spider-Man movie franchise(s), Arad himself, will be producing." (

Tom Hardy did a great job in TDKR, and I'm sure he will do the same in the Splinter Cell movie, but I just don't know if he would be a good Sam Fisher...

I hope they give Michael Ironside at least a cameo.

Not sure how well a Splinter Cell movie will work, but Hardy had been on a roll with great films in the last 5 or so years, so good luck to him.

Sam Fishers voice is too iconic. I'm sure he'll do good but it will probably bother me watching it.

To everyone wanting Michael Ironside to play Sam-He is a great actor with an iconic voice but do we really want a 62 year old out of shape guy playing him. Vioce actor and physical actor are two very differant things. Tom Hardy is a dang good choice IMO.

He was also good in Lawless, such a raw and intimidating character.

"Nobody cared who I was till I put on the mask" Yeah I love Hardy but he's just not right for Sam Fisher. Who ever suggested Jeffrey Dean Morgan is right we need someone gnarly and haggard like him.

Yeah, not sayin that he's not a great actor, but I can't see him playing Sam... Oh well, I guess in the end no one really knows who Sam is anymore (no more Ironside and such...)

I'd go for Ben Affleck since he's in the right age. Did you see him in Argo? He looks like Sam in Conviction beta version.

Love the suggestions from above about Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He's be fantastic as the older Sam.

I love Tom Hardy. Shame on no-one mentioning Rock N Rolla yet. I have faith Hardy would smash out whatever role he is given.

@30 You're right about that but I don't think Ben is "that" actor for Sam Fisher. I think Tom will do it pretty well and who knows what tricks he will pull out of the bag with this character.

He's a better choice for Sam than Mark Wahlberg was for Max Payne. I think he's talented enough that he could do a good job, provided the script is good.
