Remember when we got a glimpse of Square Enix’s impressive Luminous Studio engine last year? Turns out they’re not going to let anyone else use it.
Unlike companies such as Epic, who license out their Unreal Engine to external developers, Square Enix’s Luminous engine will be kept in-house.
It will, however, be available to those with publishing deals with Square Enix.
"This is an in-house tool,” said Square Enix CEO Mike Fischer. “We're not building this around a licensing model.”
"This is obviously developed by a team that creates these Final Fantasy worlds, that are this amazing blend of technology and magic. It's never a one-size-fits-all solution, and I don't think it ever should be,"
You can see the engine in action below, from its E3 2012 debut.
