BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition Confirmed
Written By
View author's profile

Having been outed by the BBFC back in June of last year, 2K Games has officially confirmed that the BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition is indeed coming to North America (and presumably the UK and Europe) later in the month, bundling the first two BioShock games and an array of additional content in one Big Daddy-sized box.

As well as both BioShock and BioShock 2, you'll find all of the add-ons (including previously PS3-exclusive content available on Xbox 360 for the first time) and the "never-before-seen Museum of Orphaned Concepts, providing a rare look at early concept art and character models that never made it into BioShock."

According to the press release, there's over $40 worth of extra content crammed into the generously proportioned BioShock package, which will retail for a rather bargainous $29.99. Here's the complete rundown of what's in the box:

  • BioShock and BioShock 2: Obviously
  • Museum of Orphaned Concepts: Take a tour of a never-before-seen BioShock museum and view early concept art, character models and more set within the halls of Rapture.
  • Plasmids Pack: Includes four additional Plasmids and Gene Tonics – Sonic Boom, EVE Saver, Vending Expert and Machine Buster – for use in BioShock.
  • Challenge Rooms Pack: Previously exclusive to PS3 and now available for Xbox 360 for the first time, the pack tests the player’s mettle by requiring them to utilize the skills learned while traversing the halls of Rapture to survive three separate puzzle rooms in BioShock.
  • Sinclair Solutions Tester: Contains a number of customization features that allow players to further their character’s development in BioShock 2 multiplayer modes and provides a deeper multiplayer experience.
  • Rapture Metro: Includes six additional multiplayer maps, an additional multiplayer gameplay mode and a rank increase to level 50 for BioShock 2 multiplayer.
  • The Protector Trials: Features frantic combat and fast-paced action designed to push players’ mastery of weapons and Plasmids in a BioShock 2 single-player experience spread across six maps.
  • Minerva’s Den: A substantial narrative experience that puts players in the role Subject Sigma and introduces new characters, locations and mystery to the world of Rapture in BioShock 2. Set in a new environment, Rapture Central Computing, Minerva’s Den adds a gripping new storyline to extend the BioShock 2 experience.
  • Also included, is an exclusive collectable sticker pack from BioShock Infinite’s world of Columbia to get gamers ready for the next chapter in the BioShockuniverse.

BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition will be heading to North America on January 14th, 2013. We await news of an EU and UK release... BioShock: Infinite meanwhile, is out on March 26th, 2013.

Is the Challenge Rooms Pack going to be on the marketplace, if anyone knows? Or is it an exclusive port only with this edition?

Absolutely love both these games. I'm actually playing through them again getting myself in the mood for infinite. De also worth reading the bioshock book rapture. It fleshes out the story the audio diaries tell in the games

Funny how it's the "Rapture" Ultimate Edition, when the third game isn't even set in Rapture.

Well that's because the third game isn't in this edition. This is for 1&2.

Nice, many of my friends have told me that Bioshock is an amazing series and that I should play it. Only reason why I never played it was because the first game looked kinda scary(I'm not a big horror fan).

I dislike almost every FPS in existence. So when I say that these two games are among my favorite video games ever and I enjoyed them both immensely, I'm really paying Irrational a compliment.

While it is set in the same world as the first two, I don't think Infinite has much to do with them in terms of storyline. It doesn't look like there are little sisters, or Big Daddys in the sense that we know them from Rapture, Rapture itself doesn't seem to be making an appearance and all it would seem all the characters are new to this game.

People like my wife, who is currently playing Far Cry 3, even though she had never heard of the series before this. Any game can be a "jumping in" point of a series, and if someone likes Infinite, then they may be more inclined to pick up the first two.

Somebody get this fake outta here. He's just a loser that gets prepubescent enjoyment out of getting people riled up. He's someone who gets smacked in his mouth a lot in real life so he takes it to the internet where he's safe. In other words - he's a bitch.

@#7 - How so with this series? Bioshock's story barely impacts Bioshock 2, in fact the only thing really important is knowing who like one or two characters are. and Bioshock Infinite has absolutely NOTHING to do with BS1 or BS2.

So any of the 3 games would be fine to play as your first game.

@7 Considering BioShock Infinite has absolutely nothing to do with the first 2, there's no point in playing them before-hand. It's set in a whole other time period, before Andrew Ryan was even born.

Bioshock is one of best games ever made. Bioshock 2 is one of good games. Bioshock is best series for moment until Infinite coming out.

If newcomers is interests in this franchises then GO OUT AND GET IT!!! It's amazing series both great but MP in Bioshock 2 is terrible. Just play it singleplayer cos it is better and got awesome story to follow.

BioShock: one of the best and most innovative games we've seen this generation. The Ultimate Rapture Edition is a fitting tribute. If I didn't have a basically-new copy of BioShock 2 and all 130 achievements between both games, I would certainly pick this up. I just might anyway. Who knows; it's a crazy world out there.

Who is following up with the reported comments in the news section lately?? Between this troll still being active and the hate filled anti-American statements in one of the other articles, I am beginning to wonder if the site has even got around to checking out any of the reported comments from the entire past week. This paticular story may only be a day old, but this clown has been doing this since he joined two weeks ago, and the other article I mentioned is at least a few days old and literally filled with reported, offensive comments.

Anyone else having problems with the comments section comments going way off the boarder of the screen making us have to scroll horizontally to read the comments? They really need to fix alot of the problems on this site and soon. While they are at it, they can give this prepubescent Sniper kid a chainsaw enema while they are at it.

Here are my questions coming from someone who already owns both Bio 1 and 2, all DLC packs and finished both games with 100% and every single achievements:

The challange room pack that once was exclusive to the shitty Playstation 3 port of the game... are these worth playing? Will there be additional achievements for this? I honestly can't see any reason to get this at all besides the Challenge Rooms.

Great deal for anyone that hasn't bought and played these fantastic games before though.

Good thing is that he or her is not hacker or modder it is just he or her want show off and being silly. Just ignore this person's comments is best safe and best way. :)
