Assassin's Creed III
Screenwriter on Board for Assassin's Creed Movie

The Assassin’s Creed movie will be written by short film and stage scribe Michael Lesslie.

Relatively unknown, Lesslie has not written any feature length movies but has penned scripts for the short films Skirt and Heavy Metal Drummer, as well as a number of theatre projects.

The Assassin’s Creed movie is being made in collaboration between New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures. It already has a lead in the form of X-Men: First Class and Prometheus star, Michael Fassbender.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures has been busy in recent months. In addition to the Assassin’s Creed movie the outfit has lined up films based on Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. Dark Knight Rises and Inception star Tom Hardy has been confirmed to play Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell film.

Whether any of these projects will ultimately make it to screens, however, is another thing altogether. Movie production is a delicate thing and even with stars and writers attached, some never see the light of day.

Yet Ubisoft look deadly serious and with such quality actors currently in place, we’d love to see how these pan out.

Most movies that are made from games turn out to be... not very good being the politer term, but, having said that, if this film can get a few more well known names other than Fassbender then... well... it might turn out pretty good.

Don't judge a film until you see a trailer.

Do we know the setting for the movie? I hope it is set in the Middle East like he first game rather than Rennaissance or Colonial America.

Could potentially make a mockery of the franchise .

Still, hitman survived .

Leslies' involvement in this can only mean good things. I'm glad he's making a bit of a comeback too - I've not really heard much of him since he was nuts deep on Abi Titmuss.

I predict a meh effort like Prince of Persia... not terrible but completely forgettable. Still, I have hope.

If they do this right, it will be amazing. If they can sign Fassbender on to do each movie, obviously being Desmond and Desmond's ancestor in each film, they could make an awesome series out of this in my opinion

One more step taken care of on this project. I'm cautiously excited by this movie. Video game movies have a terrible reputation, but this series has such a rich story that I just can't help but feel it just might work. We'll have to see though.

"Don't judge a film until you see a trailer."
Or the actual movie! ¬_¬

Anyway as always it's hard to find anything on short movies.
'Michael Lesslie' on youtube just yields results about some guy and his car.
'Michael Lesslie skirt' just comes back with videos of a 147 break in snooker.
'Michael Lesslie heavy metal drummer' returns results on Wilco.
Lame.

I want to see this movie do well. I really do. But we all know how other films based on video games have done, so it may be a letdown. Cautious optimism on this one.

Does anyone remember the short episodes/film they did for the release of AC2? I thought that was quite amazing with actors so I have no doubt they can pull it off if done right.

This will be a flop. There's way too much in the AC world to narrow down to a starter film.

I really can't imagine Fassbender as Altaïr or Desmond, and I really, really hope he doesn't play Ezio, Ezio is too awesome to be played by Fassbender.

Halo didn't make it as Microsoft weren't prepared to release the creative rights to Hollywood studios. As for previous game/film crossovers I can only imagine that studios (or Uwe Boll) have butchered games based on their interpretation as opposed to what we know and love.

Ubisoft have led the way by creating their own studio, probably to ensure the story they have created is kept as true as possible. Microsoft have quickly followed suit to do the same with Halo.

I think it'll be good - Ubisoft have obviously not been swayed with a big name and perhaps found someone more suited to what they are looking to achieve. Bringing Fassbender on early hopefully lends some experience and acting talent. Looking forward to it and hope it makes it to the big screen.

As long as they don't pull a Jake Gyllenhaal = Prince of Persia, it'd be interesting to look in to.

The shitty games that followed AC2 have already given this franchise a reputation worse than any Hollywood cash in could have

If I were them, I'd make a film about the very (or semi) origins of the Assassins Brotherhood. That way they draw in the devout fans who want to learn the lore, and have a good plot to move forward through.
Then save the animus reveal for like a 'twist' ending to surprise the casual movie-goer.
But that's why I would never want to do a game tie-in movie; You have to please both the people who have played the games and those who know nothing about it. Personally, if it was a rehash of the Creed 1/2 story, I'd probably get bored. The coolness of seeing a live-action version of something you've seen before wears off fast.
