Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two
Epic Mickey Studio Junction Point Closed by Disney

Disney has confirmed the closure of Junction Point Studio. Headed by original Deux Ex designer Warren Spector, Junction Point was responsible for the Epic Mickey series.

Unfortunately, however, the studio could not repeat the success of Epic Mickey’s Wii-exclusive debut with the multi-platform follow-up Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. As a result, the studio has been closed.

"It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios," reads a statement by Disney.

"These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We're extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2."

With Junction Point now closed, it would seem that Disney is concentrating its efforts on the upcoming project, Disney Infinity. You can read more about that here.

Just another example of the modern video game industry. Make one bad game, and you're toast.

Sucks because:
1. A bunch of lost jobs.
2. I still want a game where I can just freaking play Oswald, not play him as Player 2 or have a bad AI one. It's bad enough Disney acted like they were bringing him back and only Japan did.
3. Warren Spector will never get to make a Duck Tales game.

The big kicker is that Disney probably did this since they just want to make Disney Infinity and then make an Epic Mickey world in that (they did reference it), so it's going to cost crazy dollars to play in Wasteland/use Oswald again.

On that note, this is not a shock or surprise. When Disney said they were considering making no more games, just making Disney Infinity, and when EM2 did badly, I knew it was over.

It's a shame, I liked both games, even though they are severely flawed.

Not good for the employees, but this is what happens when you don't make Cod clones.

I still can't believe that Epic Mickey 2 could be so bad, I played the demo and I had a blast. Definitely gonna buy it at some point.

You are 100% correct.

And I am sure the negative responses will now rain down upon me. But it's true, if its not a FPS, most gamers won't give it a real chance, especially if there is even 1 bad review of it.

Specter is one of the biggest tools in the gaming industry. He insisted there was nothing wrong with Epic Mickey and ignored all constructive critiscism. He then put out Epic Shitty 2 and here's the result.

I truly feel for the people who lost their jobs because of one man's ego.

@8 Sadly even if people played this game they probably wouldn't have liked it. I tried the demo and although its a decent game the A.I. that replaces a second player isn't the best and only player two can control Oswald so you have to wait and hope the A.I. kicks in and finishes the puzzles or attacks an enemy so you can finish it off.

Warren Spector is great designer. Shame their developer is rushed with Epic Mickey 2 for christmas release and game were poor. I hope they have good future and good luck.

Now it is time Disney should bring Mickey Mouse and his friends and girlfriend to playable in Disney Infinity

Square Enix already mention last week they working on new Kingdom Hearts for consoles. Which is great thing to see and play Mickey Mouse again for better game.

Epic Mickey 1 is very well but camera is ruined everything so Epic Mickey 2 is ruined everything. You knew many people hype of Epic Mickey before game released in 2010 and than game sells very well when game came out. Epic Mickey 2 failed because everything ruined by poor things like camera, control chunky, stupid A.I. partner etc also many people not hype for Epic Mickey 2 because of first one got quite letdown so no one want try or play next game. There demo released before EM 2 released so those things is hardly to sells well.

Disney is silly to release game if they knew they not very well and rushed instead of tell Junction Point to carry on with more time of polishes and fixes silly A.I. and camera.

Nevermind Epic Mickey series already failed.

Now I hope Star Wars movie very well and great when film come out in 2015. God damn I not want Star Wars is ruins by Disney. Disney already ruins for Mickey Mouse. :/

Such a shame that so many studios are closing. Junction Point Studio had great potential to make good games.

I played the demo and it was a bit slow and it was rather dull (color-wise, not boring). I will be buying it, but the 3DS Epic Mickey was just plain amazing (but developed by another company).

Warren Spector just didn't take no time in EM2, such a shame, he made great games before but blew it with Epic Mickey 2.

I played the entirety of Epic Mickey 2 in co-op, so I never felt the disappointment of having a bad AI partner. That being said, it was still a lacklustre game. Certain platforming sections seemed trivial, and others that had a really obscure solution were just annoying. I suppose I am a tad shocked at the closure of Junction Point (although I am always a little shocked when a company closes; it's a hard loss), but I hope that Disney knows what its doing in putting all of its eggs the Disney Infinity basket. It'll be interesting to see what will result from this bigger-name Skylanders clone.

@6 - Not in this case. The AI absolutely sucks, so you're pretty much forced to play co-op unless you want to break your controller. The demo was enough, especially as reviews have said the full game is no better.

Never good news when a company has to close down. Epic Mickey 2 is not a great game by any means. I found it boring really quickly. It's like a kid's game but they throw in some real severe accuracy when it comes to jumping and getting to certain areas of the game. Seemed like there was no real target audience except that the Disney logo was on it and they crossed their fingers for sales.

At least they brought Oswald into the modern era. That will probably be the lasting legacy of these games. No, they weren't perfect, but there were a lot of cool ideas and great references to the history of animation in them.

Real shame, thought Epic Mickey 2 was a bit underrated myself. Really sucks that one game's financial failure equals the termination of your job. I know Disney bought them in 2007. Seems to me like being owned by a publisher is one of the worst things a company can ever do, unless you're hurting for money. The sad part is that Disney probably could've used JPS to develop the Disney Infinity game too. Really hard to imagine that Epic Mickey 2 failed when it was on 5 different platforms. Wouldn't be surprised if the game simply went over budget.

This is pretty clear evidence that Disney doesn't have the slightest idea of how the game industry works. And as someone earlier said, they closed every studio that made a game that didn't sell well.

Fuck you, Disney. That isn't how you run a business. You make better decisions from the get go. And in turn that produces better games. Not that hard to figure out.

Of course, as someone earlier mentioned. I think this also had a lot to do with Spector's ego. Had he actually paid attention to what everyone said was wrong with the first, the second would have faired better. As is, he ignored all of it. And only seemed to make those issues worse. Too bad his employees paid the price for that.

I am so happy that these people have been fired and the company dissolved. I have never felt such rage for a game before, and I played facebreaker. While that game was broken from the beginning and you really couldn't do much, this one made you run a 2 day obstacle course only to tell you you need to do this here or not do that there and to re run it over and over until you get it right and even then the pin bug may still happen. This is a note for all game creators that if you make a crap game ,you get fired.
