Medal of Honor: Warfighter
EA Shelves Medal of Honor Series

EA is taking the Medal of Honor franchise “out of continuity,” following the rebooted series’ poor reception.

EA COO Peter Moore announced the news during a recent financial call, having a little swipe at reviewers in the process.

"Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved," said Moore. "This one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation and have a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings."

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau added, "We're in a hit-driven business where it's about what you can build in a certain period of time and really deliver for the marketplace, and frankly we missed on Medal of Honor. And we take responsibility for that."

Although EA made $1.18 billion in non-GAAP net revenue during the last quarter, that figure fell below the company’s estimated figure of $1.25 to $1.35 billion. EA is putting that shortfall down to Medal of Honor.

The good news comes via the performance of FIFA 13 and Battlefield 3 Premium. The latest instalment of EA’s long-running football series sold over 12 million units last year, 23 per cent up on FIFA 12. Meanwhile, Battlefield 3 Premium has racked up 2.9 million subscribers to date, generating over $108 million in sales.

Discussing next year’s line-up, the publisher revealed that Fuse has been delayed into the second quarter of calendar 2013. It also said it has high expectations for Dead Space 3 after the demo for the game was downloaded 44 per cent more times than that of its predecessor.

The fact that EA is EA is EA's reason for the shortfall down in revenue.

Shame. I think they should have kept trying - but if it's costing them that much money then ofc they won't.

The downside is now we will get annual battlefield iterations

"have a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings."

I don't know if EA have noticed, but er, market saturation is a great way to go to kill your franchise. Copying Activision is not the right way to go.

OFC, when CoD makes that much money - despite apparently declining sales and the fact that the user base appear to be getting fed up with them - it must seem like a great business decision. It probably is.

It's a shit artistic one though.

Why try to be like Call of Duty anyway? Just stick to Battlefield and you've got a sure winner.

It's kind of a shame. This is one of those circumstances where the first game wasn't bad and had some promise but the sequel seemed like a step backwards.

They need to go back to the Allied Assault days. Actually, an Allied Assault remake would be fucking awesome. No irons sights or stupid shit like that. No story changes, just a graphical, AI and multiplayer remake would be awesome.

Hang on. Who is he to judge reviewers when they fucked up and released a day-one patch, which because of that, delayed review scores? I swear, they make it so easy for the consumer to hate them so much!

If this is their attitude, I have little to no hope for the UFC video game(s) they are going to release.

EA sucking the life and soul out of things in order to make a quick buck? This is something new to people? Blaming reviewers too...good one. xD

You didn't need critics to see that Warfighter was horrendously bad. The first Medal of Honor reboot was brilliant and why they strayed away from that model is beyond me. However I really wish they'd put out a Skate 4 already.

MOH ok (kind of different) good concept, MOH Warfighter really the first 1 that they ventured on there own! I think the 3rd Installment which would have been Danger Close or Dices only 2nd Installment could have been brilliant.

Not surprised by decision to drop Medal of Honour. Shooters are the hardest category to win the big in, and MoH fell short on a few things.

Can't wait for Dead Space 3!

"Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved," said Moore.

Someone who is involved with the development of a game shouldn't say what "their" game deserves, leave that to the critics and experts dumbass.

Some scumbag by the name of Seth Killian (community manager at SuperBot) said that Playstation All Stars deserves to have a spot at this years Evolution tournament. No comment...

Could never understand why they made MOH another modern shooter, we have Battlefield and COD for that. Had they stuck with the WorldWar angle I think the series would have done a bit better (I would have gladly bought an Allied Assault 2)

I dont know why everyone is so focused on putting out more modern shooters anyways. We've got COD and Battlefield as solid staples. Love or hate either of them, they do what they do pretty well. Send Medal of Honor back to World War II.

Let me run around disguised as a Nazi showing my faked 'papers' to every goose-stepper with a gun again. And I mean everyone saw those papers. Even the Nazis who didn't ask for them. Right trigger right trigger right trigger.

I miss those days of Medal of Honor. SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS.

That conference call was hilarious to listen to. At some point someone at EA said something about "EA not being about games" and that there has been only three video game generations.

And Dead Space 3 has to sell 5 million copies to break even..

MOH: Warfighter was actually incredibly fun if you had a friend to play with because of the fireteam system. Shame this had to happen.

love how they only say negative reviews dont really reflect how good the games are, could say the same for high scoring reviews for games like FIFA, they arnt worth the scores given either but i cant see EA complaining there....MoH was shit so deserves to be put on the scrap heap

@15 Yeah also heard that about 5 million sales. The problem I think is, that they just hyperinflate the budgets of their so called "AAA" titles way too much. For what? Usually in the first iteration you have to create a concept, lore, art work, graphic engine and so on. So usually you would think the first game of the series is costing the most and the sequels are there to get some revenue, since you have to do less work. But for some reason budgets keep getting bigger and bigger but we don't really see a leap forward in quality or game content, so where is all that money going?
Sure they do a lot more marketing, but is that eating up all of the cake?

So 1.18 billion is not enough then? Such a shame they are so poor. Funny how that guy takes a swipe at reviewers for giving the game poor scores, then states it's their responsibility for it! So who's fault is it then?

Think Battlefield will keep them going anyway. Seen enough people playing it.

Peter Moore was being the tit who blamed the reviewers. A guy named Frank was the awesome dude willing to take responsibility (good on you, Frank, by the way). Two different people.

"lower than it deserved"
no it was just shit, the games have been geting worse since frontline what do they expect when they create a game they don't actually want to compete with battlefield so it doesn't take sales from that

@ #6,

I actually like using iron sights in video games.

You do realize they are put on guns for a specific purpose.

It breaks my heart so many people bought that premium for so much. You know future games will have these like crazy now. I seriously miss the days of disks. I cant bring myself to spend £30 on dlc knowing i cant trade it in for a single penny. Maybe I'm just really tight...

@34 Whether you like using iron sights or not is irrelevant. Iron sights in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault would ruin the game.

Maybe if they kept it as it was on PS1 and 2, a zany, balls to the wall, WWII war shooter with more emphasis on fun than realism. Then it would be more fun.
