Good to hear :) I'm a little iffy on this being a direct sequel, but the fact that you can buy it for $50 instead of the regular $60 is pretty tempting since I enjoyed the first one. The new "Defend these civilians" doesn't look too fun either, but that's just because I suck at defending people haha. I will be getting this at some point though.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 09:57 AM
Ya know, it was glitchy...the DLC was a mess, the premise was nothing new...but...I just loved this game, with all its faults there was a solid game under there.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 09:58 AM
A lot of those sales were bought with that CGI announcement trailer, and more than that I can guarantee that the sequel won't get anywhere near that number of sales. And I say this as someone who owns the original.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:01 AM
I don't think riptide will do as well as this.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:05 AM
This was a solid MP game. infact even after hitting the 1250G me and mate meet up on it from time to time just to shoot the breeze. It gets alot of hate, but maybe those haters are more into FPS games and this is nit their bag? My neighbour (an avid CoD player) bought this and couldnt get more then 20 mins in before dying all the time and gave up, said he just didnt understand the game?Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:14 AM
I bought it but swiftly traded in. Found it boring and extremely glitchy. Probably burned out on zombie and open world games too, played quite a lot of them.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:15 AM
What's with all these sales figures and profits being revealed this week? Thought that was for the first week in April (New tax year)Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:16 AM
#5 I have found that aswell with alot of people, saying the game was poor and they didn't even give it half a chance. This is a superb game, hours of fun on it and especially if you have a gaming buddy to play along with. Will be one of the first to get Riptide when it releasesTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:17 AM
I'm still undecided on whether to get the Special Edition $50s or Rigor Mortis CE $80s.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:23 AM
Trailer did it for me. Even with the mediocre reception it got, the trailer made me buy. Made me.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:29 AM
dead island was a great game .i hope riptide can match it.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:29 AM
Dead Island was garbageTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:31 AM
Can we get some good dlc with riptide this time? The dlc on the first game was horrible :/ I'm also failing to see why it was given a GoTY edition. I enjoyed the game, but it needs work for this next in the series.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:33 AM
I really enjoyed it despite it's faults and bugsTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:40 AM
Yea er all bought it off the back end of that trailer , shame it was irrelevant to the mess that appeared . Deep silvers sham of a distributiOn also helped inflate hype xTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:43 AM
Fun game. I got it on Black Friday for under $10 not hearing anythin about the game, and it was one of the funnest games that I played last year. I can't wait for Riptide.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:47 AM
How the hell did this glitchy pile of crap sell so many copies?Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 10:48 AM
One of those that was on my list just never got around to it. Maybe one day when I figure out how to magically conjure more free time.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 11:20 AM
I got the GOTY edition it's damn good.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 11:24 AM
I wonder how many millions were sold this past Black Friday, when it was 7.99? That's when I got mine. Definitely not worth more than 10 bucks max.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 01:07 PM
@20 That's a stretchTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 02:05 PM
Never played this game before, but wasn't it supposed to be cancelled a few years back? Either way that's impressive.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 02:10 PM
Honestly this game was good up until a certain point then it just felt dull to me. Don't even get me started on the ending. They really need to improve the sequelTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 02:32 PM
It because many people love RPG single-player mix with coop, some horror elements and zombies so those everything to bring players to enjoyment their time with Dead Island and it got what gamers want. So which is why DI had good show sales they had with to be had so now Riptide coming this April and surely will boosting more of it's original series numbers of sales. DI Riptide will much more above then over 5 millions were from DI. :PTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 02:34 PM
Dead Island was great it was glitchy yes, but had a great time. Also found great and helpful people there!Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 02:35 PM
Also my real believe is DI Riptide come with shortage of glitches / bugs since first game got fill of full dead walked bugs when game come out before patched so I guess Riptide will come with shortage which is means we can breeze without worry (that is hope since Techland is awaked with from what DI had problems and fixed so we expect near everything runs smooth with fewer notice lags whatsoever small bugs we will causes when Riptide come out). :DTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 03:02 PM
got it for 4.99 at bestbuy during black friday... one day i will play it.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 03:30 PM
Was it perfect? No. Far from it. Was it fun as $hit? Absolutely. Loved seeing that chick go back and kill her old man who turned to a zombie. Good times. DADDY NOOOTuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 03:34 PM
Great game especially with friends, but they could have done alot better. At first when details emerged about this game it looked amazing and felt like it was gonna blow every zombie game out of the water. But when it was released alot of people were kinda disappointed, including me. I'm sure they can make it 100 times better if they just polish it and add better features. But idk Riptide doesn't look promising and looks exactly the same.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 05:41 PM
In honesty, I loved Dead Island. But some of those glitches, I mean seriously. Still the campaign was some-what okay, Ending was a bit silly. But heck this game was enjoyable enough to look past the glitches and silly ending. I'm looking forward to seeing what TechLand and Deep Silver will do for the sequel to Dead Island.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 05:46 PM
For what it was it did alot of things right about a zombie game all glitchyness aside really glad to see a sequel in the works.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 06:31 PM
Doesn't surprise me because it was only 8$ on black friday.Tuesday, February 05, 2013 @ 08:02 PM
Jumping online with 4 friends in this game was so much fun, it may have been glitchy but what game doesn't have it's faults? Same group of friends and I already have DI:Riptide on reserve :)Wednesday, February 06, 2013 @ 01:53 AM
Yeah! Keep it going Deep Silver!!Wednesday, February 06, 2013 @ 11:33 AM
"This once again proves that venturing into new waters in terms of games publishing does matter for success and that even at the end of a console cycle new IPs can be created and nurtured into lasting franchises." Err no, you just had zombies in it, and it sold off the back off other, much better and much more successful zombie franchises. And i'd hardly call a single broken, if moderately enjoyable title a "lasting franchise."Thursday, February 06, 2014 @ 08:04 AM
nice i got it free

Dead Island has eclipsed five million in sales across retail and digital, since its release in September 2011.
That’s according to publisher Koch Media, who claim that the zombie survival title enjoys healthy sales to this day.
"While others focus on ever-increasing development budgets and driving brand messages via ballooning marketing expenditures, Deep Silver stands for hitting the zeitgeist, innovation and fresh gameplay,” said Koch’s Klemens Kundratitz.
"Dead Island has an incredibly active and enthusiastic community, and we are thrilled to welcome the five millionth player to the world of Banoi. This once again proves that venturing into new waters in terms of games publishing does matter for success and that even at the end of a console cycle new IPs can be created and nurtured into lasting franchises."
Koch's commercial director Menno van der Bil added, "The continued success of Dead Island has proven that we're on the right track with our overall IP strategy for Deep Silver. Further new IPs with an innovative angle and maybe even surprising touch can be expected from Deep Silver."
Koch recently acquired the Saints Row IP and the publishing rights for Metro: Last Light, following the auction of THQ’s assets last month. Dead Island: Riptide is out in April 2013.
