Destiny WIll Not be Released in 2013

Destiny was officially unveiled over the weekend with a slightly fact-light reveal. We had expected the game to launch this year, but apparently that’s not to be.

Activision has confirmed that Destiny is not included in the publisher’s “2013 outlook.” They’re pretty adamant about it too, adding “there should be no speculation or expectation of a different result”.

So there you have it, no Destiny this year, either on current or next-gen systems. Have a look at the game’s debut Vidoc below.

I didn't realise that activision were the publishers of Destiny. I may not get the game now or hold much hope for the quality of any sequals.

I figured this would happen. This could make a awesome launch title for next gen systems.

At least that means it'll most likely be next-gen title, which will hopefully give us a bigger and better game than what they would be able to do with current-gen specs.

Destiny is listed as being a 360 game but then again who knows whether or not this could be released as a launch title for the new console. Still not too comfortable with activision being the developer but oh well the game looks promising.

More time for me to gather up and unload my savings on the next gen console then. Destiny will probably be one of the first titles I buy, along with Watchdogs.

@1 still I don't think it's going to be shitty, Bungie is making it, not treyarch.

I'm glad it's not gonna be released this year, it gives Bungie even longer to develop the game and make it even better. Maybe Activision could learn from a not-rushed release...?

@1 Dude, we are talking about Bungie here. They're a independent studio and would never let Activision push them around. Bungie is never ever going to make Destiny Activision's ``new`` Call of Duty RPG game.

Activision is only the publisher nothing else.

@1 Normally, I'd agree with you, but Activision is just the publisher this time around, they don't own Bungie or the Destiny IP.

Really looking forward to this, whenever it's ready I'll be ready.

^This was cornfirmed by TGG. Apparently the game will require a permanent internet connection to play, as it has several MMO elements. Could be interesting.

@18 I'm still holding out for a 2013 next-gen Xbox release. 2 more years just isn't gonna cut it for me. Whichever company gets their console out first (Sony or Microsoft) will be getting all of my business next-gen. Tired of waiting lol.

Well that's okay I guess. Even though the concept art looks awesome, I've heard that the preview journalists were given was very brief, with a sort of tech demo being the only gameplay. And maybe this will be my next-gen motivator?

knew it wouldn't release this year, just hope acti dont pressure bungie seen as there supposed to be releasing a main game every other year, with an expansion for each game between years, seems like alot to me unless the expansions afe around as large as say 3 dlc's

Publisher does not make the game. It only funds it. Geez that's way to hard for people :/

So I guess that confirms next gen...

Make sense if Activision release Destiny in next year or two then CoD will ave some years break and let Destiny continue selling like crazy just like Halo, CoD and others. :)

I thinking Activision want Destiny selling madness in next generation and let CoD break for some years.

Maybe? :/

I keep my eyes on Bungie's Destiny. :)

This is an MMO. This is a Ten(10) year deal with Activision. They plan on having expansion packs every other year and every other odd year dlc content. Definitely next gen. I'll make my mind up when I see some actual game play. Looks good though.

*sigh* once again.. a gamer(#1) that doesn't understand the difference between publisher and developer...

Doom began the online multiplayer craze and the grandfather of the term "Deathmatch".. but Quake('96) deathmatching made the "online multiplayer deathmatch" type of game famous. Quake was the first to have tournaments, and real life prizes such as John Carmacks own Ferrari
So 24, 25, and 28... your answer is Quake...

All off wikipedia
Sprite based games

Maze War and Spasim - 1973 and 1974 -First ever First Person games

MidiMaze - 1987 -First, FPS Known on Gameboy and SNes as Faceball2000

Wolfenstien 3D - May 1992 -First popular in the genre

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold - 1993 from the developer of Wolfenstein 3D, did not do well because Doom was released a week later

Doom - Dec 1993 -First Deathmatches

System Shock - Sept 1994

Marathon - Dec 1994 -First FPS with freelook and vertical aiming and dual weilding and friendly NPC's-Halo before Halo??? you decide...

Star Wars Dark Forces - Feb 1995 Same engine as Doom but added crouch and look up or down

Duke Nukem 3D - Jan 1996 Last of the Sprite based games

Polygon based games

Geograph Seal - 1994 -first polygonal fps platforming and free roam

Jumping Flash! - 1995 -sequel to Geograph Seal

Descent - 1995 -First flying fps of modern era and of polygon era

Quake - June 1996 -First game for lan parties and clans not considered MUDs. My first online game ever... and my personal grandfather of FPS multiplayer online

Quake 2 - Dec 1997 This was kinda the first game to have trouble running on some computers.. and alot of pc magazines at the time had articles about its specs, and can we run it type articles... ID basically was the first fps developer to go next to speak..

GoldenEye 007 - 1997 -first console fps to have considerable success and NA's top '64 seller

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six -1998 -first team based tactical in which you give orders to npc teammates

Half-Life - 1998 Grandfather of ingame storytelling instead of cutscenes, immersion, Great story/narrative, npcs and great enemy AI.

Thief The Dark Project -Nov 1998 - First pure stealth game ever?

Starsiege: Tribes - 1998 First team based with individual roles/jobs ala team fortress altho Quake had mods that did this first.

System Shock 2 - Aug 1999 Go play this game now...From Ken Levine creator/designer of Bioshock

Unreal Tournament - Nov 1999 -Arena/deathmatch only, UT is known and widely praised for its bot A.I., the product of programmer(Steve Polge) who had earlier risen to fame by designing the Reaper Bot for Quake, one of the earliest examples of an effective deathmatch bot

Counterstrike - June 1999(Mod) Nov 2000(Retail) - to become by far the most popular multiplayer first-person shooter and computer game modification ever, with over 90,000 players competing online at any one time during its peak.

Medal of Honor - Oct 1999 -First in a LONGGG line of wwII/military shooters

Quake III Arena - Dec 1999 ID honed and refined they're multiplayer arena combat

To sum it up, Doom began deathmatching, Quake refined it and made it famous...

I left alot out but thats a great refresher... Also remember noobs... Publishers dont make games, they are the money, and they publish/mass produce them. Developers make games.

I'm not surprised we probably won't see Destiny on the 360. Based on what I've read and what little Bungie has shown us, it will need the power and technology a new console will bring to fully realize what they have in mind. With that said, whenever it does come out, I can' wait!
