BioShock Infinite Season Pass Detailed

View author's profile

Irrational Games has revealed a Season Pass for BioShock Infinite, allowing users to access the game’s DLC as soon as it becomes available.

Three add-ons are planed for the upcoming action title, which Irrational promises will offer “hours of additional gameplay and continue the player’s journey in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories, characters, abilities and weapons.”

In addition to this, those that purchase BioShock Infinite's Season Pass will also receive a free Early Bird Special Pack containing four pieces of “exclusive gear,” a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and “five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.”

Furthermore, BioShock Infinite pre-orders (that's just the game) will be rewarded with the Industrial Revolution Pack,  This pack grants exclusive access to three in-game gear items that boost combat abilities, containing $500 in in-game currency, five lock picks and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game, which is some Facebook fuelled social media thingy.

BioShock Infinite’s Season Pass will cost 1600 MSP and launch alongside the game on March 26th. It offers a discount of around £8, compared to buying the content individually.

At least it's only 1600 and not 2400 or more, I'm looking at you call of duty. But if its all single player related stuff then I'll pick it up for sure

Quiet your riot, guys. It's all optional.

Seems like a good deal, extra goodies and a free piece of DLC. Only issue is you don't know what the DLC is. Anything that's like time trials (see: Bioshock 2/Dishonored) is pretty poor form for DLC. So a smart consumer would wait and see.

Seems risky putting faith in devs before you even know the content in my opinion. Look at Borderlands 2, people were so confident the DLC would be amazing as GBX 'claimed' they would be like Knoxx and well...we know the reception the content has got so far.

I miss the days when this 'dlc' would've just been included in the original game. Now the developers get to extort another $20 out of us for every major release.

My only issue with the season pass is the fact that they can get rid of the of the DLC it is meant to include. Max Payne 3 is the example. They promoted more DLC than they actually released and instead just bumped the price of some of it to still make the season pass cost effective

I'm wondering how much extra content constitutes 1600/3 though are we talking Big Daddy Trials or Minerva's Den level of attention to detail and I hope to god they dont tack on a multiplayer as DLC.

@ #3 are you high or something? Overpriced season pass? It costs 1600 MSP, aka $20(US).

Not to mention DLC packs usually run 800-1200 MSP, so how the hell can this be overpriced at 1600 MSP.

I most certainly will be picking this up along with the season pass.

It's okay when it's story based DLC which, like Borderlands and here it will be.

It's fucking awful when it's stupid MP maps and a few tweaks to a game mode like in COD or Gears. That's a big friggin waste.

@35 I think you need to take your panda self back to panda maths my friend. Cod dlc is 40 each? im not even going to entertain that.

borderlands 2 - 2400 4/2400 = 600 per pack . Saving 200 x 4 = 800

Well blow me down with a fucking leaf , the exact same saving as we have here!

@21

2400/3200 = 75% of the total undiscounted price. 25% discount.

1600/2400 = 66% of the total undiscounted price 33% discount.

While your counting skills are spot on, your ability to figure out percentages is lacking.

The smaller price point is partially due to fewer items in the package, but there is also a larger discount of the whole. And that's without factoring in the package of mentioned bennies you get for buying the pass.

So 33% off a bundle of 3 800 point items and Early Bird pack can very reasonably be considered to be a better deal than 25% off

Whether or not to trust that this will be Minerva's Den quality content rather than Protector Trials redux is up to the individual involved, but I think the removal of multiplayer since Bioshock 2 bodes well on the topic of lessons learned. I'll still have to mull over whether I buy this or not though.

Like you pointed out, the quality is questionable the price point is clearly a marketing tactic as they morons seem to think they are getting a mega deal.

let me point you in the direction of Saints row 3.

1600 for 3 story related DLC packs that offer hours of additional gameplay in the world of Columbia, it kinda states in the description what we are getting for 1600, plus they are throwing in a 4th extra upgrade pack for free, not sure why people are complaining, for 1600 its a pretty damn good deal.

Its all gonna be sp dlc aswell because its a sp only game, and its from irrational so it will be great dlc.

I'm amazed people are so hesitant to get this. First off, 1600 MSP for 3 sets of DLC and a bunch of other stuff beyond that is a great deal, as season passes go. And second? It's BioShock, and they've (IMHO anyways) never released any bad substantial DLCs.

It seems to me its a good deal you get extra goodies from the get go and three pieces of DLC for $20 which is cheap Halo 4 gave us three map packs for 25 so this is better and with irrational behind it I'm sure it'll be great. As much as I wouldn't mind multiplayer it was great in bioshock two because it was different and new, but the artical clearly says they are "[journeys] in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories, characters, abilities and weapons.” Regardless the season passes are a saving for us and the reason DLC and season passes are around is because of the used game market developers lose money when people buy used games so they make DLC to try to make that money back. So blame Gamestop for the DLC, season passes, online passes, and day one DLC.

@50 Well said... I don't know why so many people get so worked up about season passes. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to buy them. If you're more than likely going to buy all the DLC for the game in question it's a good deal as you save money. If your not sure what the quality of the DLC is going to be like, don't buy it. It's as simple as that. Borderlands 2 is a prime example, I'm glad that I didn't buy the season pass as I'd have paid for all the DLC upfront and still be waiting for an increase in the level cap.

I never buy season passes unless:
a) They go on sale, AND
b) I at least know OF the quality of the DLC.

However, since this game is BioShock, I'm somewhat less worried. I'm going to see how the game turns out first, however.

Thankfully this DLC will be all single-player since if I remember correctly they scrapped multiplayer.

You guys who are saying "you dont have to buy it" are idiots.
First; its a Pay to Win pack: “exclusive gear,” a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and “five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.” It's not multiplayer but it's still the same thing.
Second; the Three planned dlcs dont exist yet in any shape other then being announced. You will be paying for them ahead of time 'when a game takes 5 years to make there is no time for dlc plans.' Maybe they do exist though, maybe that's what all the delay's were about, more likley the time was spent removing it from the original game.
Third; how fast did the Gears 3 and Borderlands 2 season passes go on sale?
It was rediculous!
The biggest problem with this stuff is the sheep will likley line up to buy this garbage and the effect of us who won't purchase the game now will not be felt.

Uh, it's sort of not. But feel free to start saying, for example, a CoD map pack and Minerva's Den are the same. Because, you know. Same thing. Call of Duty map packs add maps that you might be better at than others making you do better in a match, and Minerva's Den had new tonics and such! IT'S OBVIOUSLY PAY TO WIN, GUYS!

@57: Fucking bread! When its freshly baked they charge you an arm and a leg for it, then say if you buy it with a bag of sugar and a jar of mayo you get %15 off. And if you wait for the price to go down you lose the benefits of the discount and the bread is all stale and shit! Goddamn grocery stores and their greed!

OT: Buy it if you want it, leave it if you don't; buy the season pass if you REALLY want it and save some money in the process. It is really that simple people.

I Don't get why Dev's don't sell passes to people to buy DLC the way THEY want, as in there's 8 DLC, instead of spending $40 on 4, spend $30 on a pass for 4 DLC's, but you choose what DLC's you want.

Wishful thinking, and it just might sound better in my head then on paper haha.

@72 You and others don't seem to realize that regardless of the price, if it is cheaper than normal season passes or not, they are still asking you to put money down on dlc that may or may not be good. If you drop 1600 now on the pass, you pretty much preordered it but if the first one comes out to mediocre reviews and negative fan feedback, you can't cancel your purchase as you used MS points. Dropping money right away on season passes is a big gamble, that's #20 gone down the tube. It's good to have faith in the developers but they are not perfect, they can still screw up.

@ 71 you should read the whole post idiot, then maybe try to not quote me out of context as I clearly quoted the news story example of what made the game 'pay to win', I guess that's above your reading level though.
I was referring to the said 'extras' that I quoted from the original news story. Those added benefits will give an advantage to anyone who buys the season pass on launch. They will have an obvious advantage over those who don't. That normally wouldn't matter, however there are achievements in this game, and this will effect their difficulty.
So yes it is pay to win, same as Deadspace. And every one starts on the same playing feild on a multiplayer mappack, those that spend the time on it will be better than those that don't.
Thats ok im sure you're one of those people that cheats, boosts, glitches, pays to win but swear's that it's all 'legit'.
You people who are giving me thumbs down are the same that know you need this to be on the same level as someone like me, don't worry though as I likley won't bother with this now and you can pay your way to some more achievements. I'll give myself one another one aswell just to make you guys feel cool.

Fine 2K Games, you take my money for season pass on Bioshock Infinite as I knew and others knew that this game gonna be awesome and biggest best game in early of year and all-time. I swearing I didn't buy any Season Pass since LA Noire. I will support 2k Games for this game and season pass.

I not bitchy about season pass as I knew near many biggest games and AAA games to get it anyway. Also we all knew 2K Games will do it anyway. :)

I'll try to wait for this to go on sale like I am waiting for ac3. Kind of lame they don't give you season passes with every CE edition unless I missed something here. I'm sure by summer when nothing is coming out this will be purchased :)

Saints Row 3 season pass was $20 and each add on was literally an hour each. So yeah just because it's cheap doesn't mean the content is good.

I'll just wait till it all comes out in a package deal. Like BF3 premium edition, which you can get for 39 bucks now.

@74 No one is forcing you to buy the season pass, if you are worried some of the DLCs may not be worth the price DON'T buy the season pass. Just buy the ones you feel are worth it. The season pass exists because both the game devs/producers & the consumer wins, that is the consumer who plans on buying all the DLC I.E. those focused on completion.

@65 Well said store that sold me moldy bread would more than likely not receive my repeat business, if it happens more than once.

I'm happy to pay 1600msp for 3x packs and all the bonuses, and I'm a hater of season passes after being shafted on the last few.

ME3 was 1600 msp for 1-1/2 hours of gameplay! This sounds very fair for three single player add-ons with no lame map packs.

This is what season passes AT LEAST should be priced. It's not asking the grand price, like Activision does with Call of Duty for instance. 4200 creds for some map packs and new modes, for all those cheevo whores wanting to obtain ALL achievements....

@83 I never said anyone is being forced, learn to read. I said paying for the pass before hand is a big gamble. You say buy the ones you feel are worth it but that decision can only be made once all the dlc is out or we have concrete details on what is in each pack, along with some footage. What I'm talking about is people paying for the passes right away with hardly any detail to go by except knowing if they contain single player or multi player content. Honestly in my opinion it is a risky choice, not for me because I will not be getting it. I'm not telling anyone to not buy the passes, it is your money, do what you want. I have a certain opinion on it.

It will go on sale before all DLCs are released just like season passes for Gears of War 3, Borderlands 2. I will get it for 1500 MSP or whatever discount it gets later down the line, or just wait for GOTY.

Why don't people just wait til all 3 dlc get released and then decide whether to buy Season Pass for 1600 MSP? That's what I'm doing. Yes, the price is tempting now but we don't know the details of each dlc. Best save your $. No need to rush.

@87 No argument that any season pass is a bit of a gamble, but if your out for the completion on most games a season pass can be a great deal. For example I think Skyrim really could have benefited from a season pass seeing as most of the DLC is $20 piece. I'm just fed up with so many people acting like its such an insult or a reason not to buy a game, either people aren't realizing that a pass is a win win for both consumers & Devs & they are not going to stop. Or are just wanting to bitch about something, It gets annoying when every other thread about news like this is filled with idiots/trolls.

At a certain point it becomes my fault for reading them, but I enjoy scrolling through the comments to see any interesting opinions or new info.

I find it rather amusing that some of you claim this is pay to win. Do you guys even read bro? The upgrade you get for the guns is in everyones game but season holders get it sooner rather than later. Also its not a massive upgrade, it will save you 2 bullets a clip. You people are blowing it well out of preportion.

Bioshock is going to fine as it is,if the add ons add achievements,it's gives people more incentive to buy them,if not, just play the game as it was meant to be played. If it's like the first two, then it's going to be brilliant anyway.

Gears of War and Borderlands 2 season pass went on sale at Christmas just so you lot know. Its 10 months away if you are waiting for the sale ;)

ps Those who say DLC is deleted/with-held content need shooting. Games are finished a while before release and during that period they make DLC.

@94/96 Yeah i do read BRO, and if you did on more then a 3rd grade level you would understand this; “exclusive gear,” a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and “five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.”
This will give anybody who is using it a clear advantage. It wouldnt matter on any other system but there are achievements linked to difficulty. That is 'pay to win'.
Next; the first time the gears pack went on sale was only a few months after release, its been on sale at least twice. Borderlands came out on Sept 18 2012 and the season pass went on sale just after christmas (just over 3 mos) and before the second dlc was even released.
Now onto releasing the game. This game just went to physical production this week; http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/19/bioshock-infinite-goes-gold
Do you think they leave millions of disc's just lying around in wharehouses? How long do you think it takes to produce a million disc's, what is it one guy burning 6 at a time on his windows pc? No it's not. likely they can produce a million discs in one or 2 days, then it may take a week to ship them and retailers then will sit on them for a week or so.
!!EXPLOSIONS #96 IS AN ASSCLOWN!! Fucking Vampire King, im sorry your parents dont/didnt spend anytime with you!!!

@93 Please the true completion and achievement hunters will buy the dlc regardless, the fans will buy regardless if they want more reason to keep playing. They did before they would continue to do so. Season passes are just a way for companies to get those who wouldn't normally purchase dlc to do so. They need to make more money. This is perfect for them, they get the money upfront and once the dlc is released, even if it gets bad reviews, the money has already been spent so if some gamers get put off it won't matter.

This is a win for the publishers every time but it will never always be the case with the consumers. Let's not forget the season passes go on sale, so basically for being a fan and dedicated to getting the dlc early you pay more for the season pass than those of us who held out or got the game later on when it went on sale.

Also there is a chance that you will even want to play the game by the time the dlc comes out. I've known some who bought Gears 3 season pass but got so sick on mp that they put the game down for good. What a waste of money. I'm sure it has happened to others. What if you guys buy the season pass and find yourself let down by the game? Then what? Anyway do what you guys want I'm not saying to do otherwise, just stating my opinion. I hope the game rocks and the season pass really is worth it for you all in terms of quality.

I'm going into the "If you don't like the uncertainty of the Season pass, don't buy it" camp. They're not shoving it down your throat with "Buy this or you won't be able to play our game" bullcrap. Season passes are nice, and they're not available for a limited time, so if you're uncertain about the content, then wait until it's all released and then buy the pass if you like what you're getting. And hey, 1600 for three add-ons and a group of single player power bonuses (which you mroe than likely don't have to use, so wether you're paying to win is up to you. Personally, I could see myself wanting that just so I can go blasting people with a golden machine gun and a golden pistol.

And for the record I felt the DLCs for BL2 and SR3 were short but still more than worth the money, so nyah.

@100 "Also there is a chance that you will [not] even want to play the game by the time the dlc comes out."

Good point. I played Blackops a lot, ended up buying all the map packs for it eventually also. So MW3 hardened edition $100 with the season pass...I'm thinking wow great deal, that'll save me $20 this time..

I didn't enjoy the game, and haven't touched the DLC, I don't even think I bothered downloading all of it. So yeah passes can be a waste of money, like what happened with your friend.

@74: And something very obvious that you and others don't seem to grasp is you don't need to buy the goddamn season pass as soon as it is released! You can buy the season pass to any game well after it has been released and all its DLC is known so why make a big gripe about it "not being known" or "it being terrible" when you can wait and once all IS known you can either grab it all at a discount or buy the pieces you want only.

Don't blame some obsessive compluse to nab all the cheevs in a game to get up-in-arms about a season pass with possible (again you will know if the DLC even has cheevs after its been made available)cheevs in it as a something you are forced into. You ain't forced to do shit. If you don't want the DLC but want its cheevs then tough shit! Shut up and back up your stance on 'No! SEASON PASS BAD!' and dont buy the DLC, or throw your whole fit over DLC with cheevs you don't want that happen to be a part of a season pass and buy the crap. Either way you have a choice.
