Assassin's Creed III
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Poster Leaks, But is it Legit?
Written By
View author's profile

We already know that another Assassin's Creed game is coming. Hell, it was a foregone conclusion before Ubisoft even announced it, but today has seen what could be a leaked poster for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag finding its way onto the internet.

It shows the new hero on the deck of a pirate ship fighting with swords and muskets  surrounded by beardy buccaneers. Early rumblings suggest that the hooded hero - who looks remarkably like Connor from ACIII - is Edward Kenway, Connor's grandad and Haytham's dad, a privateer, pirate and an assassin, obviously.

Apparently, it'll be set in the Caribbean on several islands including Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas, and is more than likely coming to both next-gen and current-gen consoles.

Assassin's Creed does Pirates of the Caribbean? We'll have to wait and see if this proves legitimate. For now, check out the poster and leaked screenshot below. We'll have more on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (assuming that's what it'll be called) when we get it.

Be funny if it was just some fan artwork!

I'll see what the next one looks like, I was disappointed with the 3rd which is a shame as I really enjoyed the first 3. (1, 2 and Brotherhood)

I dunno about 'new hero', looks like Connor, even with the same colours in the poster.

Anyway I don't buy this, top one looks like something off of deviantart. The bottom is blurry enough to be virtually any third person game.

God I hope not. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Assassin's Creed games, but it needs to do something different now. A future setting would be sick as fuck. Laser Swords and that kinda shit.

#9 - How the hell would they go into the future if the Animus is used to explore the past through DNA? It would make no sense at all.

History tells us when they introduce a new main character, they up the number of the title.
1- Altair
2- Ezio
3- Connor

When there's a number, there is no second title. It's not "Assassins Creed II: The Italian Job" or "Assassins Creed III: Livin In America"

For that reason, I think it's a fake.

Meh, I wasn't thrilled with AC3. It was just okay, but didn't grab me like the earlier games. However I did enjoy the ship combat from AC3. Perhaps Ubisoft precursor to a pirate assassin in AC4?

Also as pointed out is Ubisoft typically leaves it a simple title when implementing a new character.

Yeah this just sounds like they spent shitloads on the Naval Warfare part of AC:3 and overall it was underused. Now to milk it for a whole new game. I'll be honest I'm not initially liking the concept of pirates. Plus the whole year on year thing is just not a good look, as it always puts doubt in gamers kinds.

Personally I was hoping for a China Dynasty Era (awesome deviant artist has done some amazing concept on this) or Feual Japan. Oh well guess not.:(

@10 really if they have the power to go into past through DNA sure they'd come up with a future device to try and save them but that would not happen because each game is to find not to learn and I know he did learn but not the way I'm on about I mean to learn new stuff like build a machine to change the world like a terraformer to repair the earth

@10 Who says it has to involve and Animus? Also it could be a future setting (a world destroyed by Juno) where a new hero would use an updated Animus to go back in time to find a way to defeat her. Now that Desmond is out of the picture (I really hope he is) there's no limit to the possibilities.

SO many things ring alarm bells here;

1) The graphic novel art style of the poster can't help but make me feel like it belongs to a... you know... graphic novel. I can't recall seeing any concept art for an actual AC *game* in that style.

2) That 'screenshot'. Why the need for two copies of the same twitter handle, and why does one seem to be conveniently obscuring the leg? Strikes me as the first law of Photoshop - if you can't fake it, hide it. The "spine" of the armor also looks awkwardly angled, and there's that whole blurry thing going on between the neck and right shoulder (see First Law). The rest of the scene doesn't sit right either, with practically everything infront of the character blurred to hell (First Law), along with dust effects and lens glare slapped all over the place to make sure you can't see what's going on. What is that he's even standing on? A boat? A dock, boardwalk? Hell, it could even be a table for all he's done to obscure it.

3) The guy who leaked this works for a "chain of private, family-owned electronics and appliances stores". Hardly sounds fitting for a leak of this nature.

4) But the fact that he's a professional graphic designer sure does.

I have enjyed all of the AC games except the first. That game was horrific to play. I do hope they just release it on next gen consoles. As much as I am enjoying ACIII, the game just doesn't hold up well on current gen systems anymore. With all of the pop-in, clipping, glitches, bugs and overall unpolished feel.

Or maybe I could play At World's End...or that Port Royale game. Whatever.

So bored with Assassins MILKED now, the stories are now rubbish and uninteresting, i still had no fucking idea what was going on in number three with the first civilization and the Templars satellite etc.. This franchise is just getting milked and because of that the stories are getting more complicated and needlessly drawn out.
Fuck Assassin's creed i am done with this franchise Ubisoft. I am sick of playing your games with give no answers to any questions or plot points.

This is 100% legit, because if you recall they made a statement saying that if you enjoyed playing a "pirate" in ACIII then you would like AC4 so it's just a assumption but what else do we have to go on?

i'm not taking this with a grain on salt though, I don't go off speculation anymore for products that I want. it is to easy to fake anything now a days.

So everyone sees this and assumes it's a new game? laughable.

If anything, this looks like a graphic novel that serves as a tie-in for IV.

It's also worth noting that the second image was nowhere to be found when this story first surfaced on, ahem, more reputable sites. The only image was of the poster. Which is artwork done by Todd McFarlane.

Not to mention that, story-wise, there is absolutely nothing to be learned by travelling further back in time from ACIII. What happened at the end of 3 happened. Going back to the days of privateers would serve no purpose in terms of stopping it. So that they'd even suggest that the setting would be further back in time seems a little redundant, at best.

Whatever this is. I don't care. After the disaster that WAS AC3, I'm done with this series.

My comment is for everyone on here who thinks Assasin's Creed is turning into COD (A bad iteration of the last version). Unlike people on this website, I follow Ubisoft and read about them and they specifically said they would release Brotherhood, then Revelations, then Assassin's Creed and take a break from it for a year, and I've already red that they confirmed that the next game is going to come out in 2014. So can everyone please STFU?!

AC4 will probably be told from the perspective of Daniel Cross (before AC3),
utilizing Nikolai Oreilov in turn of the century Russia. See how Abstergo used him to infiltrate the brotherhood. AC: Black Flag could just be another game
in the "Kenway saga".

Makes sense. The AC3 ship combat was probably just something they threw in for that game because it was already designed for a sequel. Would have thought they'd sneak in a "middle" game like Brotherhood, but this shouldn't be too different. Probably just taking out pine trees and putting in palm trees.

It Pains me when people complain about yearly titles. Don't like? Don't buy. Simple!

Also Ubi already announced 4 is being developed by a whole other team other than the people who make AC normally.

Alternating between the two studios allows this fluidity. Because the series is a Cash generator for Ubi of course they are going to make more, on a regular basis. They are a business and a regular income is more profitable than one smash hit every 3 or 4 years.
