The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3 Adds VATS-style Combat, Boats, and a 50+ Hour Campaign

Fresh details have emerged regarding CD Projekt RED’s highly-anticipated RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Among the new additions are a Fallout 3-style VATS system, with which players can combat enemies by slowing down time and targeting individual parts of their body.

In addition to this, our anti-hero Geralt will be able to climb and jump in a more free-form manner, and there’s an in-game economy that you can affect by sourcing, selling and buying goods like pelts.

Players of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 and PC will also be able to import data which will affect what characters will appear and how they will interact with Geralt, though apparently the backstory wont be affected.

The world, which we already know is massive, will also be dynamic, with a day-night cycle and a weather system that will partly dictate where and when monsters appear.

This is accentuated by what CD Projekt RED hopes will be believable AI, with citizens summoning guards if you’re caught stealing and observing daily routines.

To aid your travels around the world you can either buy horses or tame wild ones with Geralt’s Axii spell. In addition to this you can also jump in a boat and head out to sea.

Plenty to do then, and according to the latest reports you’ll have plenty of time to do it in too, as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt boasts in excess of a 50 hour running time. We want it now.

Sounds like a game that Bethesda has already made (Skyrim), but that's not a bad thing at all! Witcher has its own universe, and will succeed because of it!

This is going to be an amazing game for next gen. The dynamic weather and time system alone would be worth picking it up on PS4/Xbox for. I'm psyched.

@5 While the elder scrolls are great for the RPG genre and i also enjoy them, they lack severely in story and character. It is actually quite pathetic how rubbish the elder scrolls is with these issues. Whereas the witcher hasamazing in depth stories with choices and consequence and very good three dimensional characters. It is a shame this game will not sell like Skyrim as I believe it will be far superior to it, especially in the story an characters department.

Players on xbox 360? Surely this would be made for nxt gen?? I can't see the point in making anything for the current console now that the new one is so close.

Clearly Blaise didn't read the article above or has never played any previous Witcher games. This will be NOTHING like Skyrim. I died a little inside when I read that.

OT - So excited for this, CD Projekt RED are my favourite developer right now.

@5. Skyrim was one of the most boring games I have played. You just walk about and do random stuff were as in witcher I played it twice because of the amazing story/slightly guides you in the path you are ment to go. The characters as 7 says are superb really can't wait for this the witcher is one of my favourite game of all time.

This sounds great. This also partly confirms our saves will transfer over to the 720, assuming that's not just an assumption on their part, too.

Sounds great, they seriously need to port over The Wither 1 to xbox 360 though (ala Crysis 1) or maybe even a retail release port as well.

@20 I can't say it relates to Skyrim because of some of the new features they're including? I didn't say Witcher 3 will be bad or too much like Skyrim, I said it'll succeed regardless.

I can't believe it, usually when I post comments that slightly go against Skyrim been perfect I get flamed into oblivion, nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks the Elder Scrolls franchise gets more credit than it deserves.

50+ hour campaign? NOT ENOUGH :) I am so excited about this one. I played the first on the pc and the 2nd on xbox and loved every minute of it. Looking forward to this title. I really hope they add more than 50 hours. I can see from previous posts, that some folks don't appreciate the Skyrim comparison. I've put in over 400 hours into skyrim and loved it. CD Projekt states that their world will be 20% larger. To me that means more adventure/quests and fun. Definitely more than 50 hours worth.

Why the hate for Skyrim comparisons? It seems a lot of gamers can't like 2 similar games in the same genre without worshipping one and tearing the other to shreds. I love all RPG's, and i certainly love Skyrim, and The Witcher. I can't wait to get my hands on this, this is an instant winner.

for those that are talking about Elder Scrolls lacking on story & character: You have missed the point of an Elder Scrolls game. You create your character, and in effect your story. You can do/not do whatever story quests as you see fit. You gain level not by completing missions but by doing (using a shield, using a bow)

The Witcher is ALL about story and you play as 1 character, Geralt. You do not create his story, you experience it.

They are 2 different games. Their only common point is the Fantasy genre.

Can't wait for The Witcher 3.

I played the original Witcher game on the PC before getting my 360 and playing Witcher 2 - both were excellent games IMHO. As for Witcher 3 - absolutely can't come quick enough for me. My only gripe with The Witcher 2 was Dark Mode - far far too hard for me! LOL.

@23 - the data imported will most likely be the last save you created. Which characters you'll get depend on which side of the story line you chose.

Hope the story line and the side quests etc are more than 50 hours personally, I just love the whole Witcher premise, anything that keeps me in The Witcher universe is very much appreciated.

I have to admit, I like The Witcher so much infact that I even watched the Polish tv series based upon it (with rather dodgy at times subtitles) and I've read both the novels about The Witcher and can't wait until March 23rd when the 3rd book is published here in the UK!

So is that fifty hours of actual campaign play or 50 hours including the obligatory collectible hunts, stupid side missions, and all the other fluff that's tossed in for filler? A ten hour campaign and 40 hours of scouring the map for quest-giving NPCs and collectible trinkets is not a 50 hour game, it's a 10 hour game with 40 hours of nonsense.

Guys, stay away from this game unless you have no life. Even on the easiest setting, Witcher 2 was basically impossible to finish. I just gave up on it because the difficulty curve is so insanely high and requires so much investment.

If you don't use potions for EVERY single fight, and I mean every single fight you basically die. I don't have time to put that much prep into mundane creep fights.

ROFL. Really? Witcher 2 isn't very hard at all. I have a feeling you were one of many that always had crappy equipment and didn't understand the difference between your silver sword and your steel sword.

Nerfing the combat again with a VATs style system?...Meh...I think they nerfed it enough between Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. No need to nerf it further.

I am really looking forward to this game and Dragon Age 3 for sure, I am hoping for them both to be next gen games but that might just be me.

@40 I am in love with Dark Souls, even after getting all the achievements in the third play through I still create characters and continue to play it, I am also looking forward to Dark Souls 2.

I don't usually post comments like this, but you were obviously playing the game wrong. I went through the entire game on Easy, and didn't use a single potion. Or bomb. Or throwing knife. (Well, except for that one Achievement that requires you to kill lots of things with one bomb.) I'm playing through on Dark Mode right now, and having very little trouble.

OT probably won't be able to afford this game on launch, unfortunately. My plan, however, is to get the first game on PC, then spend a few months playing all three games in a row to really get a feel for the story. And if I can get a hold of the books in English, I'll throw those into the mix as well. This series really feels like it deserves all of my attention to fully appreciate it.

As far as the comparisons to The Elder Scrolls...like #28 said, the two games are completely different. I won't needlessly repeat, but comparing the two games is simply disrespectful to the visions of each of the developers. You are allowed to have opinions on which you like more, but saying one is better than the other simply because they're both fantasy RPGs? It's just not right.
