Microsoft has announced what it's touting as it's "biggest ever free Xbox Live Gold unlock weekend", sponsored by BioShock Infinite. Next weekend you'll be able to gain full access to the full suite of Xbox Live Gold content, including movies, multiplayer events and more.

It'll also coincide with 'Rockstar Friday', which promises multiplayer events in Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City, Max Payne 3, Midnight Club LA and Red Dead Redemption from 12-5pm GMT on March 8th. Other games holding multiplayer events next weekend include Halo 4, Borderlands 2, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed III, FIFA Ultimate Team and Forza Horizon.

You'll be able to take advantage of next week's free Xbox Live Gold unlock weekend from 12:00 GMT on Friday, March 8th until 23:59 GMT on Sunday, March 10th. Visit this here link for a full rundown of the game offers and other bonuses.

I have Gold so it doesn't affect me, but it would be cool if Microsoft was nice enough to tack on 2 days to the end of everyones gold subscriptions.

@1 Never going to happen, it's for people who don't have Gold so Microsoft will hopefully get people get dig into their pockets to pay for Gold.

Hay Microsoft, how about you give something to the people stupidly enough already paying for this service!
(don't worry, I'm in that category as well)

It has nothing to do with you or existing Gold members. It's about promoting Gold to people who aren't currently paying for it. We get enough two-day vouchers when we pop open games for the first time anyway.

Either way, it would be nice for certain events, RDR 3x EXP, to be permanent as noted above. Gold would be nice if they charged less. It doesn't bother me since I just bought 12 months from Best Buy for $24.99 during their deal for $35 and using a $10 rewards coupon. I haven't bought Gold for the original price ever since I first got it. It's been a blessing.

"It'll also coincide with 'Rockstar Friday', which promises multiplayer events in Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City, Max Payne 3, Midnight Club LA and Red Dead Redemption from 12-5pm GMT on March 8th."

Two questions: 1) March 8th is a Monday, so why is it "Rockstar Friday"? 2) What good is it to have multiplayer events 12pm-5pm on a Monday when a ton of people will be at work?

@20 Ahahaha, I'm such a tard. Looking at my calendar, at next month, where the 8th is a Monday. Thinking next month is March, because I thought it was still February. Okay, so disregard that. Still kinda daft arranging multiplayer events during the work week though IMO :P

Somehow in this day and age, microsoft dosn't realise that selling things at a higher price results in less sales, something sony havntr realised for the pas 10 years

According to Joystiq this is UK only, which sucks, as it'd make finishing the stupid GRAW 2 MP achievements much easier.

I know it free points but what can I get for 20 points !!! really bad pr microsoft and your losing someome who spends a fair share of money with you . Better rethink your gameplan for next gen MS if you want to keep me.

Way to look a gift horse in the mouth - even when it isn't very generous. I don't recall Microsoft telling me (or anyone else, for that matter) that users will get free stuff for paying to "use" their online service.

If you eat at a restaurant on your birthday, because they say they'll give you a free dessert... when they bring you a slice of cake, do you tell them you will never eat there again, because they didn't give you a "whole" cake?

I thought Microsoft was - at times - greedy... but you've got them beat by a mile. I hope you enjoy playing games on the crappy free PlayStation network!!

you know it! Microsoft wouldn't just give games out for $2.99, 60-80% of games that's crazy to them. there trying to get as much money from these games as they can before new gen is out.

I've been a live member for over 3 years and not once have I seen Microsoft give any gold members anything worth while. Every month they give at least a deal of the week that was in the previous month.. The only reason Microsoft is doing any of this is because the ps4 is here and they're afraid of losing people, so their idea is to lower prices on high games once a day for a week only. Not realizing that they would actually make more if they would keep all the games lowered for a week.. The only reason silver members are getting 2 day's free if because Microsoft refuses anytime more than that. It seems to be as if Microsoft is too worried about people actually enjoying a week or so of actually discovering what gold is really all about.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, true... but this isn't a gift horse, and your cake analogy isn't quite accurate.

Imagine, instead of a whole slice of cake, the restaurant gave you 5 crumbs. Afterward, they asked you to tell them what you thought of the dessert, and they brought out the cook from the kitchen to explain that the company was being nice and rewarding their loyal customers.

Sure, strictly speaking, it's better than nothing... But the way MS handled it left a bad taste in people's mouths. Remember that MS literally made a press announcement for a press announcement to say that they would start handing out surprise birthday gifts to their members. If MS had just started doing it, it wouldn't have been so bad. But they actually had the nerve to parade around and wave the 20 points in front of our faces as though they were doing everyone a huge favor.

I found loads! Oh, wait. I didn't. Tight-arsed bastards.
