Respawn Entertainment has confirmed the departure of co-founder Jason West and the studio’s attendance at E3 2013.
Yesterday it was rumoured that West, who alongside Zampella masterminded the revival of the Call of Duty series with Modern Warfare, had left due to family issues.
Writing on Respawn Entertainment’s website, Zampella confirmed the rumours overnight, saying, "Jason has left Respawn to take care of some family issues.
"We have worked together on some amazing accomplishments over the years, starting with an early Segasoft project that never shipped.
"It is sad to see things come to an end, but there are times when change is best for growth, both personally and professionally. I wish Jason the best and send my best wished to his family.
"Respawn continues to amaze me, the team here is resilient and talented. E3 will be therapeutic for us, as we finally get to start showing our work again.
I know the team was excited about the response we got from just admitting we were going to attend."
Unfortunately, however, Zampella’s statement raises more questions than it answers. If family issues are the reason for West’s departure, why is it permanent? Why not just take a break?
It’s unlikely we’ll ever find out, so instead we’ll just have to look to E3 and anticipate what Respawn has up its sleeve in June.
