Mass Effect 3 Hosting Five Day Multiplayer Event This Week

BioWare is launching its biggest ever Mass Effect 3 multiplayer event today, with the arrival of Operation Lodestar.

Described by Admiral Hackett as "the largest-scale attack in the brief history of this war,” Operation Lodestar kicks off today and runs all the way until March 10th. That’s five days, a clear extension of the game’s usual weekend multiplayer events.

In keeping with the longer running time, the event also has increased rewards. You can find Admiral Hackett’s description and a breakdown of the rewards below, courtesy of the BioWare Blog.

"We are coordinating the largest-scale attack in the brief history of this war. N7 unit actions will pave the way for resistance and conventional forces trying to retake the population centers of our homeworlds. There is no retreat. When an objective is finished or a target destroyed, you will immediately focus on the next.

"Our assets will provide cover to network ships that will update your targets in real-time. Rally points are at your disposal in the event that all space assets meet with catastrophic casualties. From there, you will fight as your CO sees fit or until further orders arrive.

"I cannot fully express my deep respect for all of you, the sapients of the Milky Way who serve together under our banner. When future generations look back on this war, they will see the courage and commitment it takes to change the fate of a galaxy. It has been a hard road, but at last: the end is in sight."

Individual Goal: This challenge is tiered:

  • Participation (extracting on any difficulty) earns the 1st-tier reward.
  • Extracting against all four enemy factions on Silver difficulty or higher earns the 2nd-tier reward.
  • Extracting against all four every enemy factions on Platinum difficulty earns the 3rd-tier reward.

  • 1st tier – Commendation Pack.
  • 2nd tier – A second bonus Commendation Pack and a banner, (“Stood Fast, Stood Strong, Stood Together”)
  • 3rd tier – A third bonus Commendation Pack.

So they release their largest and final single player expansion one day and then start up their biggest multiplayer even the next day?

What do they mean by a banner for the second tier reward?

In multiplayer lobbies, players have a gamecard which states their names, level and challenge scores, you can also unlock pictures and titles which are known as banners and go onto your gamecard. You do this by beating challenge groups or by completing selected weekend operations.

Hope this helped mate

Citadel is one of the best DLC's i've ever played. Wrex and Garrus are my favourite characters and it was great spending more time with them. A great twist, and the combat sim is just the icing on the cake

Picked this up on Monday again due to all the new multiplayer stuff they’ve added since I last played, just after the Condor and Hydra maps came out about 10 months ago. Still fun, but I wish it had shoulder switching.

I even had a guy who’s like level 1233 (Seriously) and he shouted at me for being a ‘kill stealing asshole’ on a game where everybody gets equal XP and money at the end. LOL some people never learn. The irony is I only got an assist…

The first comm pack has been confirmed to just be a gift pack. You should get it just for booting up the game, no extraction needed.

@7 Yes, there's some people that see the co-op as some kind of competition. I had a couple of CoD players leave negative feedback on me because I was faster on the trigger and wouldn't revive them when they got killed because they were on the other side of the map, not helping with the Escort mission because they wanted to try and kill everything while the other 2 of us were actually trying to complete the Escort.

This event works out nicely. I was going to be away for the weekend and didn't want to have to wait until late Sunday when I returned to complete the event.

@8 the gift pack was released after the latest multiplayer dlc, as I recieved and opened mine last week before this event was even announced. That means that it is not part of this event at all.

@11 They aren't talking about that one which just gave you a new character. There's another gift pack that gives you a N7 weapon you'll see when you log on.

I honestly never thought Platinum was worth it; the money vs. used resources seemed like a better gamble on Gold. But an extra comm. pack might get me to at least try it out...

@10 I can't stand it when that happens. I was the only player sitting in the hack circle the other day on a four person game.

@9 Find 3 other friends to play with, chances are if you are attempting with random players it's not gonna happen for you. Learn the classes and combine them accordingly, play as a team, not going for highest score, but supporting eachother's strengths and weaknesses. Most people I run into online play selfish and could care less about sticking together, playing as a team, and reviving their teammates. And guess what happens.. they die quick playing "army of one" and it ruins the rest of the match.

Tier 1 and 2 are easily doable. Tier 3... good luck! The Collectors are ridiculous enough on Gold. Platinum is ridiculously difficult.

Puper Easy event, completed it in a matter of hours when it started. played platinum on Fire Base Rio vs all 4 enemies, with a group of randoms and no mics, we kicked ass.

Meant super on my previous comment and full extractions vs all 4 enemy types, have to admit the collectors gave us a hard fight but we pushed trough and made it.

Collectors are easier on platinum than on gold, for the simple reason that gold has only collectors, platinum has different enemies as well.
I'm a silver player usually, it's a bit more relaxed, but I completed the 4 platinum extractions without too many difficulties nonetheless. If you have decent team mates and a sound strategy, it's not that hard. I recommend doing it on Firebase Giant (Hazard).
