Aliens: Colonial Marines Gets Second Post-Release Patch

Gearbox has released a further update for Aliens: Colonial Marines, with the aim of making a pretty crappy game slightly less crappy.

A quick glance at some of the problems the patch addresses gives you a decent idea of the state of the game. Stuff like “players could walk or fall outside of maps” is not an insignificant issue.

But hey, now it’s fixed! At least they haven’t just left it to die, eh? You’ll find the full patch list below, courtesy of Gearbox.

General

  • Addressed an issue that could sometimes cause co-op player revival to not work under certain circumstances.
  • Addressed issues with players not spawning into a level properly.
  • Fixed a marine player invincibility exploit.
  • Resolved several instances where players could walk or fall outside of maps.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause localized text to sometimes display incorrectly.
  • Addressed an issue where weapon ammunition was not always highlighted properly.
  • Addressed some issues where multiplayer / co-op clients could see interactive objects displayed in a different state.
  • Fixed a bug affecting voiceovers with the Firing Range bonus content.
  • Addressed an issue where Ripley's Flamethrower (bonus content) would sometimes fire continuously without player input.
  • Addressed a rare issue that could cause Achievements to not unlock properly.
  • General user interface improvements.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes.

Campaign

  • Addressed some issues that could cause improper warping for co-op players.
  • Various tweaks to address instances where NPC characters would not always properly navigate to objectives.
  • Added safeguards to prevent players from using a weapon in the weapons-suppressed portion of "One Bullet."
  • Modified Bella and Reid's behavior in "No Hope in Hadley's" to prevent them from spawning at the wrong point.

This game reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever.. both were delayed for ages and when finally released it failed miserably.

Atleast they're trying to fix it... sorta

No matter how many patches they release goes the saying.
"You can't polish a turd".

Unless they can overhaul the graphics, ending, voice acting, and the entire Xenomorph fighting system / scary factor... patches won't do too much. If they released something that did all that, then they'd pretty much be set for an at least 'meh' game.

@2: You can polish a turd. It'd still just be a shiny turd, though.

@1 Both by Gearbox too.
From what I hear, they put all their effort into Borderlands, a relatively new IP tehy wanted to be good. And left Aliens and Duke out to dry which are 2 HUGE IPs. Already proven to be successful.

@5 How on earth would you polish a turd?!? You'd just get crap everywhere! It'd be all up in your cloth. This is not possible.

On the other hand, if you somehow lacquered said turd, or maybe shrink wrapped it with plastic or something, then it might be possible. But you'd really be polishing the coating, not the turd.

It would also still just be a coated, polished turd.

I really have too much time on my hands today.

Not enough to attempt this though.

@9 Well there's something I didn't think I'd ever see.

Still, the phrase generally refers to the generally soft human turd, whilst they used very dry Ostrich and Lion turds.

Much like a lot of the stuff from Mythbusters, the results are slightly questionable.

I don't think this process would work for human turds.

One thing I am sure of, is that these comments have been pretty well and truly derailed.

haha.......gotta love Myth Busters.

As for this game, really glad I didn't pick this up day one. Hopefully it'll be a tenner before long so I can see just how bad it truly is

Gearbox didn't actually make this or DNF. Blaming them for this game's quality is absurd. This game is so much worse than DNF by the way, which was NOT a failure. People just can't seem to firmly grasp the concept of not this gen, not going to do good with the current gen croud.

Thats a good sign for a new game. 2 comments into a thread and the entire page turns into the topic of polishing turds. Think it might be a sign to not even bother when it gets put into the bargain bin...

I'm waiting for a patch where I can play Splitscreen online with my friends. You know, drag a guest into online play or into Cooperative.

Let me know when that broken feature is fixed. I'm sick of only being able to use splitscreen in "offline mode".

@#16 - And don't hold your breath that Gearbox will ever fix it. They might find a way to get you some of what you earned back, but the glitch will always be there.

This same thing is still happening in Borderlands 2. Granted, they patched it so it reads your save file and gives you back the Badass Tokens you'd already earned. But then you have to go and re-distribute them. So, if it happens again, and it will since they haven't fixed the problem, you get to re-distribute the points again! Heads and skins are pretty much just gone...

In fact, it might even be safe to say that Gearbox games cannot be trusted to keep very good track of your progress.

The game wasnt all that bad, just a little dated. Most of what they fixed I never seen or had a problem with. The reason it got bad reviews is only because people cried and cried that no one would put it out, and when someone came along and did, they werent happy with it. You just cant please some people.

And the PC update patch is 4 GIG.

A patch that's almost the same size as the game.

Christ.
