Gears of War: Judgment
Mike Capps Leaves Advisory Role at Epic Games

Former Epic Games president Mike Capps has left the company, after completing a short spell in an advisory role.

Capps, who officially retired late last year, is now looking forward to giving something back to the industry he had worked in for so long.

"So what's next for me? Games have been so good to me, and I'm delighted to have the time to give back,” Capps wrote on Facebook. “I'm a member of several game industry boards, and I'm proud to serve as an advocate for our art in Washington.”

"I'm considering seats on a few company and advisory boards, as well as options for teaching at one of the world-class universities in the North Carolina Triangle area. And mostly, I'm focused on being a new dad in a few short weeks."

In a statement, Epic Games added, "When Mike Capps retired last year, he stayed on the board in an advisory role. As we've been mapping out the future for the new Epic Games, we decided it was best to get a fresh start with the new management.

“We thank Mike for his years of service at Epic and we wish him well in retirement and fatherhood."

With Gears of War: Judgment preparing to hit shelves, and Capps' odd advisory role period finished, it's time to wave goodbye. We wish him the best of luck.

I now have high hopes that Cliff, Rod and Mike start their own 'epic' studio. Please?

Perhaps his next move will be to another studio in an advisory role: I think we need to squeeze one more game in (insert repetitive franchise name here). Pay me my millions so I can move on to another developer and give them the exact same revelation.

Pure genious this guy.

When people leave, I always assume it's because of an impending failure in the company. Ergo, Judgment is going to failbomb.

Couldn't have advised Epic very well if he let them go ahead with Judgement

@11: If that were the case then many successful devs and pubs would be out of business by now.

OT: He seems to do all he set out to with Epic and is leaving on a high-note. I hope he finds what he is looking for by either teaching or going back into the business-end of game making. :)

@11 infinity ward. I'm fairly certain they're still about. They do this game with guns. Very popular with little boys.

Damn everyone is jumping ship at Epic. The xbox editor at IGN has a theory that everyone is leaving because Microsoft asked them to continue Gears into the next gen console.

I would leave to if my company was publishing a casual game like Gears Judgment. They basically removed the difficulty curve. Now it's just a generic TPS that any idiot can play.

I'm expecting Epic to announce a new IP soon or maybe bulletstorm 2. They need to stop with gears now unless if they actually take their time with it and take a good 2 and a half to 3 years developing the game. Hoping for them to surprise us at E3 and show us what they can do for the next gen.

@22: Friends of mine played Aliens:CM at a Gamestop Expo and Comic-Con last yr and said it was great, then it came out and they swear they were given an much better version to play when they first demoed it cuz the released version sucked.

Looks like it can go both ways then don't it.

Seem's most people from epic are leaving lately.

I just have a bad feeling about "Gears of War: Judgment", with the 'down but not out' gone, the creator of the series gone I suspect the series either go downhill or it might be nothing to worry about but either way I am concerned.

@30. I agree, but I think the series went downhill after gears 3. This is just a continuation of that.

@31 I don't think gears 3 is as bad as some people make out since the gameplay wasn't changed too much unlike where 343i changed halo with halo 4 which was terrible.
