Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara Coming to XBLA

Capcom has revealed that Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara will be getting ported to the Xbox Live Arcade.

Both games are 90s 'belt-action' (a scrolling beat 'em up, essentially) RPG classics, with Tower of Doom releasing in the arcades back in 1993 and sequel Shadow Over Mystara hit the arcades in 1996. The pair were available together as a rare Japan-only compilation on the SEGA Saturn in 1999, called Dungeons & Dragons Collection.

The games serve as a precursor to Dragon's Crown, with that game's Director George Kamitani working on the two 90s D&D titles. Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara will both be coming to XBLA soon.

Brilliant! I've been asking for these for a few years now. I'm expecting the cost to be 1200ms points.

Played Mystara for years, so many times over, memorizing all the paths, the intricacies, dreaming one day for a home release. Dreams do come true. Day 1, any amount of money.

Awesome! I suppose it's a bit too much to hope for Knights of the Round to be included with them, but I'll take what I can get... Although I'd take Captain Commando and the arcade Alien Vs. Predator, too!

Still, this brings a smile to my face.

Guess I'll change the suicide-batteries and box up those CPS-2 carts then...
But ProGear No Arashi stays in the cabinet :D

Anyways, it's great that these titles gets a wider audience.

ohhh snap!!! so excited for this... I never heard of them, but when I read D&D, I was excited for some old school rpgs, until I heard they weren't RPG's, but side-scrolling final fight knockoffs... :(

Well, as long as people are listing their wishlists, put me down for Knights Of The Round, also.

Pretty sure this is by Data East, but while we're at it, please make Captain America And The Avengers HD.

Ive never even heard of either of these games to be completely honest but I am a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons the actual pen and paper and most of the games especially Baldurs Gate and Capcom used to make some of the best arcade games back in the day and they definitely nailed the beat em ups so this will be awesome for me to experience for the first time

Cool, I have the Saturn version. But I can't read Japanese, so it would be nice to play them in Enlish to know the path choices and story. These really are great Golden Axe style games. Sadly the Saturn version has unlimited credits, I hope to see a better system here.

Holy Fuck! This is one of the last games I ever expected to see ported onto the XBLA. Capcom has been kind of a dick when it comes to their classic IPs (I expected the floodgates to open after Final Fight: Double Impact, and instead got a drought). This is a day-one purchase for me at any price, and I'm going to threaten all my XBL buddies to buy it too. Hopefully we'll see The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Armored Warriors, Captain Commando, Dynasty Wars / Warriors of Fate, and Battle Circuit get trotted out eventually. I won't hold my breath for AVP, Punisher, Caddys and Dinos though.

WOOOOOOOOW @_@

I don't even fuckin' believe it. Capcom finally got smart... Except it's just too bad this is a piss poor form of desperation for a quick buck at this point.

Alright time to redeem yourselves, bring on some King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Captain Commando and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs... let's go, I'm waiting, you dirty whores. 3-4P Co-op games... let's bring back some meaning to that Xbox Live ARCADE name. Hear, Hear!!

@25 Both of these were awesome games...I've spent more quarters in the arcade on them in my younger days than this version will cost. And I got the Saturn import when it came out. (Alas, I needed a quick but so I had to sell it). So many possibilities, paths, and such...even as an arcade game, it felt like you were playing D&D.

@31 - Haha, that would be an awful turn up.

Never played these but im glad they are coming. Not having any arcades whete i lived as a kid i missed out on alot of the scrolling beat em ups that werent ported. I would love for capcom to get the licenses so Alien V Predator and cadillacs and dinosaurs can be released. Awesome.

Dang - when I read the title I thought they were talking about the long-promised add-ons/expansion to the XBLA D&D: Daggerdale....

What's up with them? Does anybody know? 10 character levels in a D&D game just isn't enough; and it was supposed to get more (from what I remember reading when it came out).

Sorry for the double-post, but...

@31 - weren't they already announced here as Strider & Ghouls & Ghosts (or Ghosts & Goblins - the one that's NOT in the 1985 pack that just got released)??

No. The 2 free games at the end of the Capcom Arcade Cabinet are going to be Vulgus and 1943 Kai.

Well for one, Atari filed for bankruptcy a couple of months ago, which would put a hold on anything they would release.

For two, that game I imagine didn't sell very well, and critics ripped it apart. I couldn't see Daggerdale DLC being a hot seller, in fact, besides you, I've never heard of anyone wanting to play that game more.

@20 - How can it be a "final fight knockoff" when Capcom also made Final Fight, you goose?

Anyway, colour me excited! Shadow Over Mystara, in full four player mode, was one of the most rad cabinets ever. Here's hoping for good multiplayer options.

I never thought Capcom would re-release their older licensed games, but I was thankfully wrong. First Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and now this. Now I'm hoping for Alien vs. Predator and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs :)

I never heard of these 2 games nor have I played them, but after reading that they'll be a precursor to Dragon's Crown a game that i've been highly anticipating since it was announced I feel i'd be missing out if I didn't buy and play this collection.

Thank God games like side-scrolling beat-em-ups have always been a favorite genre of mine! Speaking of which if none of y'all have tried Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds and love this collections genre then I strongly recommend giving the game on XBLA a go! :D
