Skullgirls' Third Character Receives Funding as Indiegogo Campaign Reaches $600K

Skullgirls custodians Lab Zero Games has surpassed the $600,000 mark with its Indiegogo campaign to keep the XBLA fighting title growing with new characters and backdrops. Squigly and Big Band have already been funded with their corresponding stages and story mode.

Now that the crowdfunding has reached a new milestone, Lab Zero is looking to create a third character from a selection of dozens, some of which you can see at the bottom of the page. There's a whole range of character profiles to read of prospective third characters here, and you can cast your fan vote via the campaign page if you've contributed to the fund.

There's just over 40 hours left in the Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign, which means you can still contribute and vote if you want to. Reaching the $750,000 mark will mean Lab Zero will be able to fund everything it set out to to expand Skullgirls. Alas, the Xbox 360 patch is still AWOL.

You should mention that you only have to give $1 to be eligible to vote.

The community of Skullgirls can truly be proud of having achieved this. Most were skeptical of them getting the 150k needed for the first character (many didnt even read the details and moaned about that price... including some big names in the FGC) yet here they are with all 3 funded with time to spare. Not to mention the fact they raised tens of thousands for breast cancer research a few months back.

I dunno, maybe im biased because Skullgirls is an indie dev competing against bigger fish in a small pond who have been doing it for at least a decade each but i wish them all the success in the world. Im also with DADDY WELSH on this - a nice wee appearance on a deal of the week would also do wonders to get even more people on board with the game as well as swell the coffers somewhat - this is a dev team which doesnt even have an office.

Whoa there's enough potential DLC characters for an entirely new game. 31 from my count. Bloody hell.

@#9 - They planned for making 3 games. That's why there are so many characters. They designed enough for all the games. Squigly and Umbrella were planned DLC for this, but for whatever reason Big Band took Umbrella's place.

The 3rd character is to give a sneak peek at the roster for a potential sequel.

@3 Of course you want the people thumbing you down to comment, because you crave attention and conflict. Johnnyluh put you all out there in the Spring Sale article. Every comment you make seems to just be bitching about you being poor. You kids today and your entitlement attitude infuriates me, always complaining that the deals you are getting getting aren't good enough or something you want never goes on sale. Get off of the computer and go get a job to afford the things you want.

Also stop being an internet bully. No one here cares about your opinion or you childish attacks through PMs. (and you are getting downvoted in hopes that, like your comments, you eventually fade away.)

@10 I think they just wanted to get a male into the game. Many fans as far as im aware were not praising it for being an all female cast so i guess they relented and changed their priorities. Not that i mind... a wee lassie with a brolly is hardly appealing not least when weve already got her sister who already covers that angle playable.

This could be the start of something evil. Now other developer companies, undeserving, will start asking for that too.
