Tecmo Koei has revealed the first screens from Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, "a bold new take on the renowned Ninja Gaiden franchise" being developed at Team Ninja in collaboration with former Capcom man Keiji Inafune and his own studio, comcept, and Spark Unlimited, the developer currently finishing up Lost Planet 3.
Featuring a bold comic book art style, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is being developed using Unreal Engine 3, and according to Team Ninja studio head Yosuke Hayashi, Yaiba "is not a [Ninja Gaiden] sequel. It is a new experience for gamers. As with any new title, there are many new challenges, from the game design to art style and even development team structure."
It certainly looks to be following in Ninja Gaiden's fine bloody tradition however, splashing buckets of the red stuff all over the place. For the time being Team Ninja and co. are still remaining cagey regading what platforms Ninja Gaiden Z will release on, but Tecmo Koei promises "more information in the coming months". Check out the screenshots below.
