It might not be all over for Vigil Games' Darksiders franchise it seems, as following the formation of Crytek USA, headed up by ex-Vigil Games CEO, David Adams - who also incidentally oversees a studio comprised of a number of ex-Vigil staff - the studio is looking to acquire the rights to the IP from THQ, effectively bringing it back home.
Now CEO at Crytek USA based in Austin, Texas, Adams tweeted, "Going to bid on Darksiders IP. Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators."
Following up with Destructoid, Crytek USA staffer Ryan Stefanelli doubly confirmed the Darksiders bid, stating “When the Darksiders IP goes up for auction, Crytek will be bidding for it. Not much more to say since the rest is left up to courts and legal shenanigans, but we’re all excited at the prospect.”
Platinum Games might be a bit gutted, as the Bayonetta studio was looking to acquire Darksiders "if it was cheap." However, it'd be nice to see Darksiders' creators retaining the series they put so much time and effort into, despite Crytek as a whole claiming it doesn't fit with the developer's strategy. Whaddaya reckon?
