GDC 2013: "Hackers and Modders are Really Fucking Lazy,” Says Rod Fergusson

For developers and publishers, there are so many more uses for achievements than just rewarding players for progressing through a game and performing impressive feats.

In fact, Rod Fergusson, former Executive Producer at Epic Games and current Executive Producer at Irrational Games, as part of the ‘Designing Compelling Achievements Microtalks’ session at GDC, says that achievements have allowed studios free data gathering tools and that they’ve noticed that “hackers and modders are really fucking lazy, and not at all smart.”

“Don’t forget that this is free data, it’s another cog in the toolset,” remarked Fergusson, talking about the importance of the info that achievements (and trophies) can deliver to developers.

Fergusson went on to reveal that in Gears of War 3, there were “50% more players than sales;” in terms of features, 75% of players played single-player (“25% never touched the campaign”) at the same time, 75% of people played multiplayer, while 25% never touched that aspect; and it even gave them an insight into the completion percentage for the campaign too. It was at 48%, which by current standards is actually pretty high, according to Fergusson.

It also allows developers and publishers to shine the light on more negative aspects too, like hacking, which Fergusson had a few choice words to say about.

“The really interesting thing that we never talked about until it happened for Gears of War 3,” said Fergusson, “is that it turns out that hackers and modders are really fucking lazy, and not at all smart.”

“We had achievements in Gears of War 3 that were ‘you must compete in 25 social events that we’ll hold throughout the year’ – it should have taken 2 years to get this achievement,” he continued. “There’s no way you could have got this achievement… Day 2 we had 1,000 people that had that achievement… We were like, “What’s going on!?”

“Oh so yeah, there’s a hacking thing and they’re automatically unlocking everything and not even bothering with reading what’s there,” so we’re banning them… they became a new indicator on who to ban… people who had achievements that were impossible to get.”

Ending on a lighter note though, Fergusson closed with the best advice he could give other developers.

“You can never have too many Princess Bride references in your achievements,” he chuckled.

Damn straight, Rod. Damn straight.

  • The Socialite achievement was available once the first DLC arrived for season pass holders. Well before the allotted time to earn the achievement. Before you start calling people who earned those achievements hackers and morons, maybe you should properly test your game, ass-hat.
  • Have fun storming the castle.
  • Really? It's their bad coding that caused every multiplayer match to give out a ribbon for people when the game first came out. It's not hacking. It's playing the game they released with problems.
  • "“We had achievements in Gears of War 3 that were ‘you must compete in 25 social events that we’ll hold throughout the year’ – it should have taken 2 years to get this achievement,” he continued." Does he not know his own company's achievement? 25 events? 2 years to get? Wow, that's just epic fail on his part.
  • Are there only 12 weeks in a year on Rod's calendar?
  • And 1000 people only got it because your company glitched it to make it possible to get in the first two days. Everyone knows this except him?
  • its even more stupid that they made an achievement that requires a person to play for 2 years
  • It's 30 events not 25. Anyone who wants an easy 70g jump on gears of war 3, just for pressing start on the main menu you'll get 29/30 events played and play one match of online and you'll get the socialite achievement
  • If you put in an achievement which takes two years to complete how can you be mad about people hacking it? I sure wouldn't want to play for two years to get it.
  • #1 You'd have a point except he said Day 2, not after the first dlc arrived So the only way they could get it that quickly, pre first dlc was to hack or mod
  • I love collecting achievements in my games but I must say that Epic goes really far in making them impossible to get all of. I'm not saying that they should be able to obtained in a day but two years of dedication is ridiculous. They need to know that people DO play other games and that stupid stuff like the socialite achievement are crazy. Not to mention they stopped supporting it themselves and gave it to everyone for free. I don't let impossible achievements interfere with my purchases, but from a company perspective I'm surprised they still do this as it might deter some from buying the game.
  • "Oh so yeah, there’s a hacking thing and they’re automatically unlocking everything and not even bothering with reading what’s there,” so we’re banning them… they became a new indicator on who to ban… people who had achievements that were impossible to get." Captain Obvious here needs to be promoted ASAP. It's been happening since the 360 came out...
  • “We had achievements in Gears of War 3 that were ‘you must compete in 25 social events that we’ll hold throughout the year’ – it should have taken 2 years to get this achievement,” he continued. What? THe first time I EVER played GOW3 was about two weeks ago. I logged onto the online and instantly got this achievement, as well as the achievements for being level 5 and level 10. I was level 12, and as I said, I had NEVER played this before.
  • Hackers and Modders are lazy? Does he realise how much time and effort it takes to do this shit? 95% of the time new software has to be built just to extract or replace something, and 99.99% of the time it's harmless shit to enhance the player's experience, whether it's creating new skins or fixing issues that the developers themselves couldn't be arsed doing. The use of the word "lazy" is either ironic or moronic.
  • Most of the people who had the achievement on day 2 would have run into the private match glitch. I can't believe Rod hadn't heard of it
  • I always knew Rod was a doosh. Judging by everything he's said here, on Twitter, and everywhere else he has no idea what's going on with whatever product he's "executive producing." I'm glad he has nothing to do with Gears anymore. By the way, I heard most hackers modded their stats after a glitch which has been occurring since GoW2 reset all of their progress in the game. You'd be playing normally, then poof, all of your unlocks are gone & your rank is back to 1.
  • @13 - That's because like 6 months ago they gave anyone who had played or had yet to play Gears 3 credit for 29 of the 30 events because they fucked up the rotation. You had only needed to play one online game to get that achievement. That's why you got it immediately.
  • I doubt it was just me, I by no means hacked but I'm pretty sure there was an unpatched "BUG" that certain matches you played the achievement count for the Socialite achievement incremented. So I got this without actually playing so many events. I'm sure MANY people got it this way too. It's not so much that 'hackers' are lazy. It's that the developers are lazy and have sloppy prevention techniques. Hackers only expose until they want, it's not a matter of laziness.
  • @16 - It's like the only requirement to work at Epic was to be a total douche. That company spawned two of the biggest douches in the industry.
  • I don't get it, why do we always refer to some people by the job they USED to have? He used to be with EPIC, now he's not. He should be referred to in his current role. Guess it makes him feel better. :P
  • I received the game a day early and I clocked up the achievement for every game I played. I'm by no means a hacker, it's a shame when developers don't even realise the fault of a game and automatically assume it has to be hackers.
  • I use to like Epic when Cliffy B was there and before he turned into a douc he making retarded comments.. Looks like they have another douche to fill his role!
  • I got the onyx achievement because it was glitches not because im a hacker, so that's epics fault. If they even thought of banning me I would kick up a storm. Oh and I hardly touched multiplayer
  • If you immediately ban people before investigating it that is massively unfair. I read in the comments of another article today that it would unlock randomly for people who never hacked anything. Why should they be banned because your game is buggy?? GTA IV for example. I "achieved" Wanted in Hangmans noose gringing when my mate and I bumped into a hacker who ended up forcing millions and millions of dollars onto out player score and then insta-ending the game. How was that my doing? Is it fair I get banned? In this case I haven't been on GTA but the situation is similar.
  • "Rod Fergusson, former Executive Producer at Epic Games and current Executive Producer at Irrational Games, as part of the ‘Designing Compelling Achievements Microtalks’ session at GDC," What the hell is he doing on an achievment panel all the gears games have had grind-fest lists, bioshock 1 and 2 had decent enough lists Bioshock infinates is terrible its all kill x with Y.
  • whats more sad, the people who just use mods to unlock achievments, or the people who actually play all region locked versions of individual games just to get the multiple achiemvents added on because they have the mod chips that allow them to play other regional games, along with the PC version as well.
  • He does realise that by calling hackers dumb and lazy, that his accounts will be hacked and his up coming games are going to be hacked. Sounds like he knows what he is doing. Also I got 20 of the events in the 1st month because of a glitch they never fixed.
  • what a nobhead, it wasnt hackers who got the achievo very early it was because he and his company messed up on their end and each match gave you 1 towards the acheivo rather than having to play 30 different events etc... So fix your own shit Rod before you accuse people of hacking , twat. Also i dont agree with hacking etc... but how can you say hackers / modders are lazy and not smart if they can take the coding that YOUR company makes find a way to exploit it and then use it to their advantage? if anything epic are lazy when it came to coding the game hence everyone getting stuff early or people modding the leaderboards.
  • He wants you to play the game for two years to get an achievement, when the company gives up on the game in less than a year....LMAO. Thank god the achievement glitched for some; bullshit others got screwed. I really think some of the people associated with this game are complete morons. RIP Epic. You deserve it.
  • I am sorry Rod but no achievement should take 2 years to unlock so STFU.
  • I got banned off Gears of War 3 servers for having all the achievements early haha... Oh well, I still have them now
  • Turd Fergusson
  • instead of giving us consistent support for your broken game you gave up on it to make an even crappier game that less people care about good job epic!
  • I got the Socialite achievement after not playing the game for a year because Epic gave it away to people because they couldn't be assed actually doing events on a regular basis.
  • "Comment #1 by Infomouse The Socialite achievement was available once the first DLC arrived for season pass holders. Well before the allotted time to earn the achievement. Before you start calling people who earned those achievements hackers and morons, maybe you should properly test your game, ass-hat." I just HAD to log in to quote that. Your post is the first thing that crossed my mind when I read that part of the interview and you brought that to word in such a perfect manner.
  • What an ignorant douche! After all this time he doesn't know that it was a glitch that allowed everyone to easily unlock the achievement. Learn the faults of your own game before u start assuming hackers are the cause. A 10 minute web search could of told him its a common glitch in the game. Looks like Rod is the only one who is" fucking lazy, and not at all smart"
  • Although way after the first day my bro got it by just playing matches and watched the total rise way before 30 events.
  • Can't be as those sonic time records where people get 1 second record tracks........Yes I know sonic's fast but he's not that fast in-game.lol
  • “hackers and modders are really fucking lazy, and not at all smart.” And yet they still get all their games for free and any achievement anytime. Not to mention the tool that allowed you to pick any skin you wanted. Even Epic only ones. Certainly outsmarted you Rod. As for the socialite remark. Either he is oblivious or he is trying to con the people listening to his rubbish. Twat.
  • @26 Just as Rod has no idea what he is talking about neither do you. People who stack multi-regional games aren't hackers; they simply import that regional xbox and games.
  • “Oh so yeah, there’s a hacking thing and they’re automatically unlocking everything and not even bothering with reading what’s there,” so we’re banning them… they became a new indicator on who to ban… people who had achievements that were impossible to get.” wish they did this more.
  • I popped In Gears 3 for a quick play (This is my second account) and I got the level 10 achievement before the level 5, cause I had needed one more event for the social achievement, so I played a ranked match, after it completed, I got it, I'm like wtf, but I got level 50 within a week, and I still need to go finish the campaign.
  • Lol not only was there a glitch that alowed people who played the game before release date to get progresion towards it for every multplayer match that they played. But also the third weekend up to the sixth weekend events had a glitch with them that alowed you to play private matches after playing one match of the events and each private match would also count. Plus there was only 35 different events in the first place. One was for playing on day one release and one was for playing in the first week. There fore there was only 33 different events. Which you couldnt redo for progresion towards the achievement. The achievement was actualy obtainable after 8 months legitemetly, not two years lol. Learn about your own game before posting wrong facts. Most of those who played the game were dummy accounts for boosting the kills. I myself had three other accouts for boosting kills. That meand that 1/4 of my accounts was actualy for playing the game. So these stats are bull. Plus how can you call 48% completion of the story campeign a success. It just means that you didnt do a good job making the game.
  • Shows how much he knows. Also how would It take two years to unlock this achievement when there was an event every weekend for 30 weeks?? Not to mention this achievement glitched for me while playing private matches within the first month of release,I didn't hack it. Dumb fat fuck. Iam happy he's not a part of epic and gears anymore.
  • I don't think "not wanting to do Seriously 3.0" constitutes as "lazy" but hey, you know Rod Fergusson must've gotten it in the 7 months that Gears 3 was supported, right? :D (Without boosting of course, because that sounds like something "lazy" people would do too.) Sociliate was ACTUALLY BROKEN, so... I really don't know where he's going with that one :x And even if it wasn't; am I lazy because I don't want to play some stupid playlist like "Boom Snipes" or "Can You Dig It" thirty times? (This guy needs to take another high school psychology class if he still doesn't understand.)
  • “We had achievements in Gears of War 3 that were ‘you must compete in 25 social events that we’ll hold throughout the year’ – it should have taken 2 years to get this achievement,” 52 weeks in one year. Minimum of 1 event every week (sometimes more for special events like Christmas). At most it would have taken anyone 30 weeks playing one event a week to get the achievement, and probably less if you payed attention to news and heard about the extra events on certain special occasions. And yes, I said that correct, it was 30 events, not 25. Rod Fergusson both doesn't know what his own game's achievement requirements are and doesn't know how calendars work. Someone here is really fucking lazy, and not at all smart, and he's standing there in his glass house throwing stones.
  • So, for merely playing a GLITCHED event we get called hackers? twat, this achievement was terrible for many reasons, first and foremost was expecting people to play it for that long in the first place. secondly, it did NOT track events that well at all, and we never got told why. finally, its NOT our fault that certain events continued to tally the count for the War Supporter medal, more than once per event now is it? fucking prick REALLY needs to learn that A) Glitches in your product are YOUR responsibility, and B) there is a HUGE difference between people just playing the game and hackers...
  • GDC 2013 "Game developers are really fucking lazy," says everyone. These days game developers don't test their product nearly enough. They rush the game to store shelves glitchy and broken, only to release a patch that only addresses some of the problems while it creates a whole new batch of problems, errors, and glitches. Countless gamers have had game save data or game progress lost. But the developers don't seem to mind, they already got people to buy their product so there's no sense in supporting it, right? Speaking of lazy game developers, what happened to creativity in achievements? Rarely does a game get released without these three types of achievements: Reach Level x, Kill x enemies with y weapon, and collect x number of item y. Those are basically half of the amount of achievements and usually near 50% of the gamerscore of any game. We've been there, done that already. Give us something new.
  • Rod you ignorant slut. It was 30 events not 25, and you dickheads fucked that rotation up and couldn't even run your events properly, or generate new ones. Thank god Bioshock Infinite didn't include any MP, or who knows how you would have fucked that up.
  • @31: Not the smartest thing to admit on this site. It isn't only Epic that bans people for modding their achievements, ya know. OT: The comment Rod made about '25 events should take two years' is one of the most moronic, misinformed statements I have ever seen a dev make about their own game. The events were once a week, Rod. Go smack yourself in the face with a tack hammer.
  • Man a lot of you have trouble reading huh? He said people who unlocked it day 2 of release obviously hacked it, which is true.
  • 25% never touched the campaign? Man that's pure fucking ingorance, shame on those online weened baby gamers.
  • Man FUCK this Rod Ferguson guy !!!
  • Hackers and modders don't like wasting their time on BULLSHIT grind outs... You fucking Illuminati, mind controlling, oppressive son of a bitch. Condition the world to sit inside their houses and devote their lives to mindless garbage no one gives a shit about and subdue us... hackers are smart and realize what a waste of time this shit is. Also some people that actually want to get ahead in their lives DO INDEED play video games, they just don't have the time...hence, hacking. There's two sides to a coin douche.
  • I remember it was a glitch after the first DLC It was an event about diggers. that is all i can remenber. 1 round war zone private matches & bam! achievement unlocked after 30 matches.
  • There is a huge ass difference in a bug and a hack and a mod. The current epic team can kiss my ass personally. They put in a achievement that would last 2 years in hopes people would then stay around. Then they turned around and did the same shit with judgement. Judgement is a pile of shit I bough that game used and played it 1hr then returned it. Epic can just piss off personally. Won't be getting anymore games made by epic.
  • Anyone claiming it was all a glitch and not hackers is as ignorant asRod claiming it was all hackers.it was a share of both.
  • @1, you a hacker?
  • Yeah well their excellent fix no longer allows those of us who were legitimately trying to get that achievement. So thanks Epic...
  • @16 that glitch is exactly what happened to me, made me give up on grinds of war 3.
  • I've never liked Rod Fergusson. The fact that this tool had his name second in the credits of BioShock: Infinite made me laugh. He joins when the game is virtually completed and he gets more credit than everyone else.
  • That's hilarious! People getting Socialite early was on their end not players.. People were getting a ribbon after every match for the first couple days... I thought FOR SURE they knew that!
  • @48 - I get where you are coming from but games are so much more cmplicated than they were, it isnt easy to weed out the many bugs that could and will appear.
  • What fucking ignorant douchebag. He's so out of touch with his own game that he doesn't even know how glitched it is. What an idiot.
  • So we are all modders and hackers?? While so pumped up
  • @44 im a big huge gears fan and I cant agree anymore with you. So glad that fat leprechaun isnt apart of gears. Imo gears was starting to get weak when he started showing his face around...gears 2, 3. And I got my achievement really early. Did I mod or hack??? Im sure if I did I would be banned from xbl wouldnt I? Of course I knew what was going on after playing 3 matches and they were all counting towards the achievement. So I did them not mine or anyones fault that they failed on fixing bugs. Glad it did happen though teaches that dumb ass a lesson.
  • Speaking at the ‘Designing Compelling Achievements Microtalks’ session at GDC, former Gears of War Executive Producer and Irrational Games Executive Producer, Rod Fergusson, lifted the lid on some of the darker tactics that publishers and developers can use, reminiscing about his time on Gears of War 3. “We even do sort of this, I would somewhat call it a mercenary use of achievements and I’m not entirely proud of this, but my dark side of the force is kind of proud of it,” confessed Fergusson. “So in DLC in Gears of War 3, when you bought the first horde pack you would unlock the skin for the Onyx guard,” he continued, referring to the “Kill Locust (Like a Boss)” achievement worth 100 points from the Horde Command DLC. “We put in an achievement which was to beat a boss wave in horde as 5 Onyx guards. That meant the only way you can do that is not only you buy the DLC, but you had to get 4 friends to buy the DLC so that you can come together to get this achievement… so I was actively trying to promote people to buy the DLC, but it was one of those things that actually turned out to be more a marketing tool and find out people who really want this achievement.”
  • Fuck Rod Fergusson. Why is this clown involved in a "Designing Compelling Achievements" discussion in the first place? The Gears of War achievements were horrible and he admitted yesterday they were designed around getting people's money. I'm not a modder or a hacker but I might become one when it comes time to buy any future games this piece of shit is attached to.
  • I think that all of the hackers and modders should be banned and have their Gamerscore reset!!! I think that its stupid u have 2 hack and mod 2 get an achievement or use a modded controller in a multiplayer game type to have an edge on other players..
  • There is a difference between using a blatant mod/hack, and using an exploit, calm down people, hackers and modders are the devil.
  • Hacking? Pft! Shortcuts that you dipshits left in. Lazyness? Less lazyness in the hacking than in your old companies pathetic attempt to "support" your games.
  • People who exploit a fault are just as bad as modders tbh. Least with the latter they have to do something. Also to the people who said they got it before the game came out, he specifically said "after the game was released". If you are going to say such things as "Fuck You Rob" etc, then maybe you should give back all the achievements you got by exploiting a game and don't say "It was their fault" as you knew about the exploit and still did it so you are at fault not him. Thats like blaming Ronald Mcdonald for getting fat because you exploited a cashiers stupidity into giving you free food. Also i fail to see how companies can win at making an achievement list, because when its to long you complain that its a grind but when its to easy you complain and when its based on skill you complain on how you need luck. Maybe they should just have story based ones or for simply putting the game into the xbox, would that better please you?
  • I wish we could go back to the good old days with 1000G. They could channel their efforts into making a sequel or a new game instead of milking gamers with DLC/season passes that's not really worth the $$ they charge.
  • Funny that he thinks that many people hacked the achievement. Epic even said it was allowable as it "was a bug in their game which they hadn't detected". http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/855056-War-Supporter-Bug-(Your-Fine)
  • No, you're really fucking lazy, Rod. Felt like all you know how to do is to is post Twitter feeds about bonus xp for Gears 2 for a long long time. I was pleased when you left Epic... Was Gears Judgment better or worse w/o you, I wonder?
  • Fuck Rod Fergusson. 'Nuff said.
  • Yeah this achievement was glitchy as shit. Progress was tracked for each game you played during events, rather than just once. Everybody ever got this achievement early.
  • @73 No, just...no. There's a world of difference between using exploits IN the game compared to modding something as an ADDITION to it. The latter one also involves tampering with the game data severely, and can give you all sorts of advantages(and disadvantages, too). The exploit is just limited to one favorable method, modding can give MANY methods to choose from. See what I'm getting at here? How are people that use simple exploits just as bad as those who mod(especially those giving themselves advantages online)? If you don't want to use exploits in your games...fine, that's your choice. However, saying that it's equally as bad as those who are a big part of destroying the online modes of many games is just a tad far, don't you think?
  • What a fucking a grade cunt. Ive bouggt and enjoyed all the GOW games, have never hacked or cheated ANY game. I got the socialite achievement without even realising whilst playing private matches due to YOUR fuck up, and you have the balls to pay me out for it? You cretinous piece of shit. Also, judgment SUCKS.
  • @73 how about you do some research before typing garbage, the idiot is claiming people hacked the game to get the achievement, which is not the case. in my case, the achievement may have unlocked AFTER the 2 days he is on about, about 3 months after release, but it still glitched not matter what, and he refers to that as hacking! in my case EVERY versus match counted as a "new" event, after x-amount of matches it unlocked. what you are saying is im as bad as a hacker/modder for simply playing my game, i paid for with my hard-earned money. the way it comes across it like this: "oh, there's a bug that will unlock an achievement if you play legitimaly, so dont play it" i say fuck off, companies NEED to start taking responsibility for THEIR mistakes, the internet age has made most of them lazy, if there is a problem and enough whiners complain, they might release a patch to fix it.
  • Haha someone from epic accusing people of being lazy. Thats funny
  • yep i read somewhere that about 20% of hackers & modders on ps3 and about 3% on xbox 360...
  • For once all of the hatred in a news comments section brings me joy. Seems like we're almost all on the same page for once. And because it hasn't been said enough... Fuck Rod Fergusson.
  • Yes. They are fucking piggy trolls. Hate modders and hackers!!! GTA IV is my game last game that came with load, load crazy lazy bastard modders and hackers. In free mode came with full of it. I am expect GTA V free mode will be same. Maybe huh? Lol Hate them as alway. They have no right to do it.
  • Rod Logic: 30 events = 25 events 30 weeks = more than 2 years
  • He looks like an idiot saying what he said. I had that achievement because I played in private matches. I not only bought the Gears Console, but also the special edition version of the game. I think this guy owes an apology for his ignorant comments that didn't even end up making sense. Day 2 for Seriously 3.0 is what he should have focused on.
  • A warning to Rod.Don't piss off gamers, or you will see the truths about your games. Sincerely, everybody at x360a.
  • Wow. When I saw the headline I thought yeah I agree. I read the article and was yep, yep, yep. Then near the end massive fail. And what makes it so much worse is that EPIC are one of the few devs that actually send internal data and "proof" to MS to get people banned. So Rod I hope in your future roles that you actually get your facts right before accusing people of hacking when they either accidentally or deliberately took advantage of a glitch caused by dlc. (Not that I support taking advantage of the glitch but its not the same as hacking).
  • Actually Rod use the same comment but replace hackers with your code cutters lol they are the lazy non smart people.
  • I never understood "hacking" personally. If you purchase a game for $60, or even get it for free, the idea is because you want to enjoy the experience it gives to you. Now by "hacking" that experience to get achievements quicker, or get certain in game exploits such as easier kills, more loot, whatever... doesn't that take the fun out of it? I think what is confusing me even more about "hacking" is what #54 says "Condition the world to sit inside their houses and devote their lives to mindless garbage no one gives a shit about and subdue us... hackers are smart and realize what a waste of time this shit is." If it was really that much of a waste of time to play a game the correct way, you are indicating it is more intelligent to "hack" it, but I can't help but ask, wouldn't it just be more intelligent to avoid the game, and "hacking" it all together? You could save even more time by not playing at all.
  • Ah right, I see what's goin on. All hackers & modders are bein thrown into one pile n just do it to cheat on online games and get achievements... Yeah, not the case.
  • @92 on consoles YES!
  • @92 I think he's referring to how easy it's to download a mod and there you unlock the achievement instead of working for it
  • @93 & 94: That would be like me saying that all dole eds are scroungers. If I meant benefit thieves, I would say so. If I was saying it to fuck with my mate, it'd be clear through the look on my face, tone of voice, or if typed an emoticon of choice or a "..." The fact he's just outright said hackers and modders are lazy is a slap in the face to a huge community online, one of the most dedicated, and the use of the word "lazy" is a very poor choice indeed. And consoles can be hacked and modded for things OTHER than achievements. People are a lot more capable than you might think. As for the whole thing being about achievements, who the fuck cares if someone's done it. Achievements are to enhance player experience, it's not a fucking league or owt.
  • 50% more players than sales = Preowned Copies & people sharing the game with friends and family (e.g. The dad buys the game, then the two children also play it on their own accounts or consoles. Also, do these stats include offline play? And if is, HOW?!?
  • "it should have taken 2 years to get this achievement,” = WTF? I will never 100% a GOW game,,, I don't have that kind of dedication to ANY game...
  • The Princess Bride was a shit movie that should be cast into the ocean.
  • Quote from 14 Hackers and Modders are lazy? Does he realise how much time and effort it takes to do this shit? 95% of the time new software has to be built just to extract or replace something, and 99.99% of the time it's harmless shit to enhance the player's experience, whether it's creating new skins or fixing issues that the developers themselves couldn't be arsed doing. I nominate you for the "Clown of the Year" Awart! enhance the player´s experience... I can remember how "excited" i was, when I become invaded from UNDYING FAGGOTS in Dark Souls!, oh, and they hacked all the Call of Duty Games to ruin the MP for serious gamers! (best exsample: World at War!) So fu**ing funny when you play against immortal enemies! Yeah, and all the XP Lobbies to get the prestiges faster! Just for a 0G-Achievement! All RETARDS! Oh, and all the Modder and Hacker in Gears of War 3?! not the Social-Achievement, got it also very soon through the glitch, just played private... but Seriously 3.0 was one of the most hacked Achievements I think! If I´m not interessted in working and earning a Cheevo then i do not deserve it...that´s it! if you can show me the modder who saves "Aliens: Colonial Marines" on the XBOX then i change my mind... but all i have seen on hackers out there on XBOX Live where just spineless idiots who bring down my Online-Experience in other games or "lazy" dudes who want achievements they did not deserve! My two cents! Hang me now Greetins Davd
  • I just hope that the same glitch happens in GoW Judgement... Because there is no way I'm gonna get socialite leggit in this underwhelming game. Think about this Rod.
  • “You can never have too many Princess Bride references in your achievements,” Few things are more true than that.
  • @99: So every single modder/hacker out there just does it to cheat on multiplayer games? I'll call your "Clown of the Year" and raise you an "Ignorant Fool" medal. Ever heard of Counter-Strike? Guess what that is.
  • Despite the in-accuracies in Craig's words he is still right about one thing; hackers and modders that do it to cheat are pieces of shit.
  • @102 i know CS well, played it a lot on steam! i agree with you that a lot of good mods come out there...but not on the XBOX 360! and the article is about the Box, or can you tell me another platform where Gears 3 was released for? I should have said it more specific that my post is for the console(s) and there I just find hacker and modder they do there stuff for pissing ppl off or using there tools to beat a game on difficults that are to hard for them! Cod WoW on Vet, Dark Souls, etc! hope you understand what i mean, and MAYBE i had missed the aspect for GOOD game Modifications ;)
  • I had respect 4 him before now he just lost it
  • I consider myself lazy, but I've never reset a shit load of people's stats before.. Maybe it's the moron in me that prevents it from happening. What I find funny is that hackers have a way around 99% of anything within 1 week. The developers take 3 months to fix small issues. If the hackers had the employees, servers, coding lines..etc the developers have access to, they'd make flawless games every 3-4 months!!!! 3 months to patch issues - Lazy! If he's saying modders and hackers do not play online style games and the stats prove it.. maybe it's just that some players don't like online play. Somethng about getting put on a team with whining 7 yr olds chased them off a while ago!
  • @79. I was referring to people who mod their gamerscore. Rod was referring to people who had the achievement 2 days after the game came out, which was impossible unless you modded it.
  • @81. That is 3 months after, not 2 days. He said 2 days so you aren't in this category are you? Idiot hackers deserve to be banned, if you are innocent and fall victim I understand you being annoyed but calling them twats won't sort it out any faster will it? Try provin your innocence rather than coming across as an arsewhole (not referring to you personally)
  • 108. my annoyance is because this fool has branded us ALL hackers due to his incompatance, companies are far too reliant on the "update culture" that we live in now. and after all this, he then updates it so you can get in ONE match, whats the point in him calling all of us lazy hackers, then doing that?
  • Hey Epic Games How low, can ya go
  • Epic fail! What a jerk, does not even know his own game. If he wants to talk about lazy people the. Lets talk. Epic have knew about game breaking bugs since gears 2 and yet they still are a problem. Only epic games have bugs where all your stats disappear. Epic, your the lazy ones!
  • What an ass. Hey kettle, it's pot... Epic is so effing lazy.
  • reaaaaaal professional. I've always hated how boring Epic Games' products have been. I have nothing to do with this achievement because I don't waste my rime unlocking achievements for multiplayer. However, just the fact he is calling his fans unintelligent pisses me off. Dude, should be fired for saying such a thing.
  • I bought Gears 3 used, never played online multiplayer for Gears 1 or 2 nor played any events, yet when I first played Gears 3 I was boosted to like level 17 and had 49 social events done.
  • Rod Ferguson has always come across as a PLEB.He talks so much shit, and because he believes it he is so far up his own arse-after removing himself from Cliffy B's arse but that's another story-he expects everyone else to believe it too.I'm glad he will have no further input into the GoW franchise,i'm pretty sure he had quite a bit of input into Judgment and that could've been a much better game. They,ie Epic, need to either put the GoW saga to bed OR get a fresh new team in to breathe life back into it-Pendulum Wars could work if done in more of a Gears 1 + 2 way,raw and edgy with no fucking Seriously achievement at all!!
  • typical arrogant twat making mass assumptions. Hey maybe its down to your lazy development that we get glitchy achievements that unlock when they are no suppose to.
  • The achievements are supposed to last until the last game
  • I meant next game
  • the reason why there was 1000 people with the achievement day 2 is because it was bugged and every matched played was credited as an event. Typical EPIC employee, blames people for their bad job.
