Defiance Launch Issues to Be Patched Soon

Defiance, Trion Worlds' MMO shooter launched earlier last week, and has unfortunately been subjected to a few nasty issues, including some game-breaking lag that the development team is keen to address. In a blog post on the Defiance community site, the game's Executive Producer, Nathan Richardsson apologises for the problems before outlining patches and DLC plans.

With the Xbox 360 version of the game suffering the most severe issues, the team's first priority is to correct the server problems with experiments currently being carried out. "We continue to re-configure, deploy fixes, roll some back, try something different, measure, analyze. There’s just so many of you shooting so much," Richardsson writes.

"If you could just be nice and all get along. Hellbugs have feelings too you know. This is by far our top issue. We’ve thrown a ton of more hardware at it (we had reinforcements ready), changed client-server protocol to remove load balancing setups to have less moving parts and a host server code changes."

A patch is set to arrive on April 15th with another to follow "roughly two weeks later". It's hoped that these updates will fix many of Defiance's problems, while daily server code updates will be performed until the lag issues are dealt with.

Meanwhile, Defiance's DLC plans have also been discussed, with Richardsson detailing what add-ons will be coming to the game. "There are at least 5 DLCs this year. They all have a free and paid component," he added. "We do not want to segregate our playerbase so we always want everybody be able to participate and play with friends.

"The free part is features and content, the paid part is essentially, say, access to a new playable species with a bundle of stuff with it. The upcoming TV tie-ins aren’t DLCs that cost either. It’s all yours."

Defiance is out now. You can watch the final Ark Hunter Chronicles episode below.

Trion puts out content like no other company. They bring new stuff like every month with Rift, and if this patch is any indicator of the care that they're going to show with Defiance, it looks like it could be really successful.

The only issues I have right now is the massive frame rate lag during arkfalls with 25+ people. You can hardly move, the sound glitches up, enemies don't die, and for some reason my ammunition for my pump shotgun keeps resetting every other reload, not only wasting my ammo, but also forcing me to spend more time reloading.

Still waiting for my Ultimate Edition from Amazon, hopefully I'll start playing when these issues have been patched out :)

Glad to see the positive ratings from the 12 of you that have scored it ;)

Sold mine copy on ebay.

Nothing wrong with how it ran for me, but the boring, repetitiveness of mission was just to much.

Not much variations between missions and the loot and shop items are very poor.

I was so stoked from the Beta, and once I played the full game, its just kill all these enemies here, disable this generator here, defend this NPC from enemies here.

I was probably only a few missions off finishing, ready to do side quests, but its just to much repetition.

So the patch is scheduled the same day as launch of the TV show? I guess we'll get Episode 2 quests at that time. Still no mention IF we'll be compisated for lost boost time.

Tried to play during the Spring Break week for my kids to get as much out of my 7 Day XP and Scrip boost but kept running into Server time outs, kicks, lags etc...

BUT from what I have played Ive had a blast and the cx360a community has been very friendly.

@#3 - You sure your connection is good? Just saying because I've been on Arkfalls with at least 50-100 people multiple times and had no issues.

What I am more concerned about, is that if you go to game details under defiance, then extras, it has the deluxe edition for 3200 MSP. That's all fine and dandy, but what bothers me, is it says people who buy this deluxe edition from the Marketplace, get a THIRTY day XP Boost...

My Ultimate Edition only came with 7 days worth, and i got an extra 3 days from gamestop.

.........Where's my 30 days at?

They sound like they are going to support their game properly which is good cause I plan on getting this hopefully in the coming weeks, but seriously, it's 2013 and nobody can launch a game without game breaking lag and bugs? It's just mind boggling to witness game after game require such extensive bug fixes patch after patch.

@12 I think you answered your own question; the deluxe edition comes with 30 days, but you have the ultimate edition which only comes with 7...

@13 This is an MMO Shooter on the XBOX though...you can't really put it with the other games because the player scale is so radically different. All MMO's release with bugs and lag, it's basically how the world works lol

@13 In addition to it being an MMO, almost all the issues are server side and Trion has been very upfront about what is wrong and that they are trying to fix it.

Was going to buy this day 1, noticed BL2 was releasing a free level cap increse (Season pass holders) and have been playing that instead. I definatly want to play this, I just feel like patching some bugs and letting the server population drop a tad can't hurt my shoddy internet. Was hoping this site would post a review, I feel like they post believable reviews. I don't really trust IGN and the bribery that goes on.

#19 Will be nice but since game is MMO so it is not right place for it. Singleplayer Campaign is perfect for it or Coop. But not MMO. Open World games or MMO is hard for them add it. I think and you can doing many things and DLCs coming into large games like MMO and Open World though. :)

#21 Well Brink is bad and crap game I ever played in 2011. So no Brink is completely different to Defiance since MMO games easy get bugs quickly. Brink is just Bethesda rush released coop game. :)

I've been having an amazing time with this game, though the first 3 days were pretty shoddy connection wise (luckily I have plenty of other games to switch to). I just broke 300EGO last night and just got into doing Shadow Wars today and I LOVE IT.

For an MMO on a console it is pretty much what I expected, and in my own experience I haven't really noticed all that much that is annoying or gamebreaking, other than the fact the game is region locked, that is the only ball-kick for me. Aside from that, 150 players all shooting aliens on screen, no shit there will be lag, I don't quite know what the complaint is about. Personally I would just like to be allowed to always be connected to my friends or clan mates at all times, and for it to actually follow the leader around without me having to keep fast travelling to them. But still, FIX THE REGION LOCK FIRST. All I want.

Loving this game so far and have had no issues whatsoever with lag. The only annoyance I've had is getting into 4 wheel vehicles and not being able to drive them. The only solution being to leave the stranded vehicle and respawn a new one. I'm also encouraged that the players I've come across have been really cooperative and not total dicks like they have been in other Multiplayer I've played.

They've already released loads of little patches and lots of server side changes, but this is good news. They mentioned some things can't be updated without a larger patch.

Also looking forward to April 16th's new Episodic missions. #addicted

@25 Dark Souls is not an MMO

This game is off to a typical MMO start but so far I love the game. My biggest issue is the loot system, tho. For example, I had a green assault rifle I got as a quest reward that was waaaaay better than an orange one o got from a lockbox 100 levels later. That's insane. They also need to buff some of the weapons such as pistols and SMGs and make some loot items more abundant.

P.S. Brink was a great game, fuck the haters.
