Defiance, Trion Worlds' MMO shooter launched earlier last week, and has unfortunately been subjected to a few nasty issues, including some game-breaking lag that the development team is keen to address. In a blog post on the Defiance community site, the game's Executive Producer, Nathan Richardsson apologises for the problems before outlining patches and DLC plans.
With the Xbox 360 version of the game suffering the most severe issues, the team's first priority is to correct the server problems with experiments currently being carried out. "We continue to re-configure, deploy fixes, roll some back, try something different, measure, analyze. There’s just so many of you shooting so much," Richardsson writes.
"If you could just be nice and all get along. Hellbugs have feelings too you know. This is by far our top issue. We’ve thrown a ton of more hardware at it (we had reinforcements ready), changed client-server protocol to remove load balancing setups to have less moving parts and a host server code changes."
A patch is set to arrive on April 15th with another to follow "roughly two weeks later". It's hoped that these updates will fix many of Defiance's problems, while daily server code updates will be performed until the lag issues are dealt with.
Meanwhile, Defiance's DLC plans have also been discussed, with Richardsson detailing what add-ons will be coming to the game. "There are at least 5 DLCs this year. They all have a free and paid component," he added. "We do not want to segregate our playerbase so we always want everybody be able to participate and play with friends.
"The free part is features and content, the paid part is essentially, say, access to a new playable species with a bundle of stuff with it. The upcoming TV tie-ins aren’t DLCs that cost either. It’s all yours."
