Originally announced back at E3 2011, Crytek's Ryse (previously known as Codename Kingdoms) is reportedly now being positioned as a major launch title for Microsoft's next-gen Xbox, according to numerous sources familiar with the platform holder's next-gen plans. An action title set amid the Roman Empire, Ryse was set to feature Kinect functionality exclusively for Xbox 360, but now apparently Crytek has been rebuilding the game with Microsoft Studios' supervision for the next Xbox.
This isn't the first time that Ryse has been mentioned as a potential next-gen Xbox launch title, so this has more than a little credibility to it. Furthermore, Ryse is being designed as Microsoft's Gears of War/Halo-style mega launch title, with deep Kinect integration with improved body-tracking that'll enable players to slash and kick enemies.
Sources also cite that a "super life-like" Forza could also be in the offing as a next Xbox launch title, alongside a zombie game (what console launch would be complete without one?) and a family game with Pixar-style visuals and Kinect support for generating an in-game character using a full-body scan.
Strong third-party support means a few first-person shooters are also rumoured to be among the next-gen Xbox launch line-up, while a switch from the Microsoft Points system to proper currency is also mooted. And reports of that ubiquitous May 21st reveal date also refuse to go away. As ever, watch this space!
