BioShock Infinite Has Shipped Over 3.7m Copies, Max Payne 3 Ships 4m

Take-Two's financial reports are in, and display fairly strong results for the fiscal year. Not only has BioShock Infinite managed to ship impressive numbers since its release on March 26th, but Max Payne 3 has also enjoyed some success during the year it's been on sale, helping Take-Two to reduce its losses.

"BioShock Infinite was the top-selling console title in March, enjoyed significantly higher first month sell-through than any other BioShock release, and has sold-in more than 3.7 million units to date," reads the report. Shipments of Max Payne 3 meanwhile, topped 4 million units, with 3 million of those achieved within the first week of the game's launch.

This has contributed to Take-Two's total net losses going from a staggering $107.7 million last year, to a relatively less terrible $31.2 million incurred in losses this year. Revenues for Q4 almost doubled from $148.1 million to $300 million too, and with anticipation for BioShock Infinite's three Season Pass add-ons and the looming September launch of Grand Theft Auto V, things look pretty good for Take-Two.

Then£4.49 deal on max Payne would have helped a lot I imagine. Great game. Especially the MP.

Well done. good news for T2.

However, I thought Max Payne 3 was disappointing.

I loved Bioshock Infinite and thought it was a great game, just let down by going all COD in the shooting department and could have done with better powers. Still not as good as Bioshock 2, in my opinion. Still awesome though.

@1 Yeah I was pretty shocked at how good the MP turned out. Shame they only included about 3 maps with the retail copy then butt fucked you for more with endless dlc... which then never got voted for in MP anyway. Ontop of that they never delivered the NYM coop mode they advertised when promoting the season pass at the time of the games release.

As great as the game was, the DLC for Max Payne 3 was an enormous joke.

Both games are fantastic IMO, the cutscene style and voice acting being the best things in Max Payne and the atmosphere and absurdly fun combat in Infinite

Shipped means absolutely nothing other than how many stores bought, not people. But I see in the article it says this many was *sold*, so okay.

@2 Get your head out of your ass. There's nothing "COD" about Bioshock's gameplay. It's virtually the same as it has been since the first Bioshock. How in the fuck can that possibly be considered "going all COD"?

Agreed with 9 there is nothing CoD at all about Infinite thats like saying all platformers are ripping off Mario its just a very invalid statement. I'm glad to see that Infinite is doing so well hoping it does better as time goes on and that the DLC is worthy of Bioshock's relatively untarnished DLC history.

I also agree that Bioshock Infinite is no more like CoD than the other games, but what I think he meant(and I feel the same way) is that Infinite just focused more on shooting and gunplay than the other games. Less focus on powers. It felt like it was more FPS than RPG than it should've been compared to Bioshock 1&2.

@2 How did Bioshock Infinite go 'all COD' does it need an absence of guns to remain 'good;' much like the original the use of guns and plasmids was great.

Surprised there's no mention of an incoming Max Payne Complete Edition (it's been a year already!). I guess it's not worth it when the DLC is all multiplayer stuff?

@9 Wide open areas, throwing enemies at you, nothing like Bioshock 1 or 2 where there was a few encounters here and there, not just all out gun fights.

It might not be 'all COD' but the more wider open levels and higher enemy count made the combat more typical FPS.

I remember now why I don't usually post in the comments, it's populated by people who don't understand or respect opinions or who can talk or debate in an adult manner.

Maybe I shouldn't of put COD as an example... I can hear the hate bandwagons pulling up now...

Stormy I will take the heat away from you by saying if it was more like COD it would have sold considerably more, these sales figures are really low compared to a real fps like COD or Battlefield.

I also completely agree that some of the people in the comments have no concept of what an opinion is, and will jump on anyone who doesn't agree with their opinion, because at the end of the day their opinion is fact.....right?

@15. In order to have an "adult debate" maybe you should have backed up your point in the first post you made. Instead of now critisising the people who disagreed with you and couldn't debate your point because you never made a point you made a statement as if it were fact.

i am actually disappointing with the amount of people who bought max payne, that was without doubt my game of the year, it was unique, fun and addictive and its been practically the only game ive played since it came out last year, and #12 is right, it did, it doesn't matter how much you liked that game they focused on the gun combat more than any bioshock, so if a person wants to call it cod like they can, but...what's wrong with cod, biggest selling games with great gameplay, it should be a compliment

I loved Max Payne 3's story campaign but I don't like MP because too many noobs had ruined it and Maps kind of repeats and getting bored fast it is just like CoD and other online MPs. But MPs alway come fun when play with friends and get achievements out of way if possible. :)

So they lost 107.7M last year and so far this year 31.2M while selling a lot of units of Max Payne and Bioshock, and things look good for them? I don't understand how did they still make a loss this year if they sold that much?

Is the article misleading meaning last years debt was 107.7M but now it has been reduced to 31.2M for all of the profit they made?

Man Max Payne was so fucking incredible. Glad it got those sales.

BioShock too--amazing game. Let's just hope this season pass content is as good as the game itself.

After the first two Incredible Max Payne games, the 3rd was a disappointment. I personally would of preferred the first Dev to make it and concentrate on the incredible storyline and mechanics. Rockstar took the game, like Ubisoft with the latest Assassins Creed games, in the wrong direction with a lacklustre and bland single player and an unnecessary multi-player.

@#28 - What that means is that they spent more money making and promoting the games (both BioShock: Infinite and Max Payne 3 had television advertisements in prime time) than they got in returns.

So while they've still sold a pile (though they're kinda fudging the Max Payne numbers) it wasn't enough to cover what it cost to publish the games.

Max Payne was brilliant. Anyone who disliked it because of the cutscenes or achievements is dull. Easily one of my favorite games this gen.

I understand what that poster meant by BioShock Infinite "going all COD". The thing I find funny is that people generally agree that Halo 4 was where Halo tried to "go all COD", when it really plays nothing like COD. Yet when something like BioShock Infinite comes out, with an extreme and almost grating focus on rather simple gunplay with enemies that die pretty easily but are thrown at players in massive numbers instead of the previous franchise installments' focus on atmosphere and story, it's not fair to say that they kind of took a page out of the COD playbook? I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, nor that it was intentional - but come on people, did you even play these games? The first two BioShocks were all about the story and the atmosphere. The encounters weren't exactly sparing, but they weren't numerous either. BioShock Infinite, in contrast, creates setpieces around huge combat encounters. Almost every new area is filled with pushover enemies, and to be frank, the gunplay just isn't that fun and the enemies just aren't that intriguing.

And yes, there is the new-to-BioShock two-weapon carry limit, which really diminishes the value of most of the game's guns. And the energy shield thing? That's a bit weird, more Halo than COD - but COD stole it from Halo anyways.

So yeah, it definitely felt a little more like COD than any of the previous installments.
