Ubisoft Sales Reach £1 billion, Far Cry 3 Ships 6m Copies, Desilet's 1666 'Suspended'
Written By

In its latest financial report, Ubisoft has revealed a whole bunch of interesting facts and figures, with sales for the year surpassing £1 billion, resulting in net profits of £90 million. Contributing to this substantial profit - a significant rise on last year's £70 million net profit - were strong sales of key franchise sequels Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 3 has shipped more than 6 million copies, while Assassin's Creed III has shipped 12.5 million units since launch, achieving a company record in the process. What's more, OTT 80s action-packed Far Cry 3 spin-off Blood Dragon has become the "fastest selling downloadable title in Ubisoft history."

Ubisoft has also confirmed that following the departure of Patrice Désilets, 1666 - one of the projects Désilets and his team were working on - has been suspended, although two new titles are in the works. It seems that Ubisoft is making more big moves with ACIV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and more on the horizon.

I'm a bit saddened about Désilets' being fired and his project being suspended...However, if I don't know for Assassin's Creed III (still have to play it) I can say Far Cry 3 deserve it success. There's no harm in making a lot of money out of game if it's great...

The next one I'm eagerly waiting is Watch Dogs...

Ubisoft are one of my favourite game companies. I love the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Splinter Cell series and am very much looking forward to the new releases, so I wish them every success.

However I hope this incident with Patrice Desilets isnt a sign of things to come. Like most people I dont know the exact details of what happened so im not going to comment on whether I think one party is wrong or right, however I will say that im disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing what Desilets next project would be like, and I hope that this can all be resolved fairly and avoid another long war between big companies and ex-employees.

While i enjoy Farcry3 (i really do), does this 6million figure mean doom and gloom for other games which fail to reach these high figures thus reducing new IP's or am i.....(what is the defenition of) insane!!!

Wow, Ubisoft are complete and utter dicks. First they hold a grudge against Patrice and fire him, then they take his project and "suspend" it (rather than cancel it) so that he cannot reform a new team and carry on the project with another company. It's like parents divorcing and the mother trying to get the court to not allow the father any visitation.

Wait Blood Dragon's sold more in it's first few weeks than Trails Evolution, the former record holder (Until Castleminer Z came along)? Impressive.

Wonder what the overlap between FC3 and BD players is.

@7 Way to jump to conclusions there, chief. He couldn't "reform a new team and carry on" even if he wanted to. Ubisoft bought the rights to his projects. Meaning they no longer belong to him. That's the way it works.

But.

Judging by the statement her released regarding "fighting for his project, team, etc.". And the vague language used here. I'd say in this case, it's a safe bet to assume that the reason the project was "suspended" is likely because he's filed legal action against Ubisoft.

Long story short. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if development was suspended because he's gearing up to sue their asses off.

@8 Erm no, Trials isn't published by Ubisoft and the article clearly says "fastest selling downloadable title in Ubisoft history." - not XBLA history.

@9 If they're just going to "suspend" it anyway, why not just let Patrice have it when firing him? Because they want to add insult to injury.

How does a piece of crap like Assassins Creed III sell 13 million..? Of course they're gonna keep pumping them out like CoD if you let them think its ok to! Every day I lose more and more faith in humanity...

Ha Ubisoft didn't state that AC3 was probably the most buggy game release in history. Turned me off the series. Becoming a joke.

Still have to play Far Cry3 but what I've heard I am missing out.

Cannot wait for Rayman Legends. Origins was a blast.

Far Cry was a great game...too bad AC3 was a disappointment. Should of called it Warriors Creed...no stealth what so ever.

I can't wait for a next-gen follow up to Far Cry 3 (FC4?) because that was easily one of my favorite games from last year, if not my favorite.

And Blood Dragon was awesome, too.

I use to love Ubisoft until they ruined Assassin's Creed, haven't picked up Far Cry yet which I'm sure is not too bad. I have Rayman Origins but the unlocking achievements on the first profile thing made me quick almost immediately, there's absolutely no point in having someone else help you if their work is for nothing basically. Other than ruining the AC franchise, good for them I guess..

Man, I somehow hadn't realized how many games Ubisoft had coming out that I'm excited about: South Park, Splinter Cell, and Watch Dogs. Two new IPs. And hopefully they're still moving forward with Rainbow Six and Beyond Good and Evil 2. Plus the next Far Cry. 8 games! Holy shit!

Suppose I should be glad AC3 sucked, that's one series I don't have to worry about for awhile.

@13 Now that was a great comment. Thumbs up!

OT: AC Games were great up until Brotherhood, and Revelations was when it sloped downwards. AC3 was a huge let down. Now that they are pumping these games out every damn year, what hope is their for AC4: Black Flag? Nothing. Watch Dogs will be better. Trust me. :)

@27 Or Watchdogs will be overhyped garbage. Until it lives up to the massive mountain of hype that's been built behind it, it won't be anything.

I can think of plenty of games with the same kind of hype behind them in the past. Games that turned out to be absolute shit. Too Human, anyone?

Not to say I don't have high hopes for it. Because I do. But I'm not naive enough to believe the game is anything other than "currently in development" and massively overhyped until it proves otherwise.

I would like to know how much Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon sold. I really hope they got enough to realize what games should be about and hopefully other game developers and companies will see this and give us more of the same.

I feel like an unofficial advertiser or sales rep for the game I love it so much. I want to take a trip to Africa and give out blood dragon to children.

Ubisoft is a perfect example of a developer/publisher who can

compared to Activision who gets the bulk of their profit each year from COD and use it put out shit like Battlship, Men in Black: Alien Crises and Cabela's Dangerous Hunts

I heard 1666 was supposed to have a play style similar to Ass's Creed, so Ubisoft bought it up, probably thinking they'd just force the dev team to convert it into another Ass Creed spin-off, since they shit those awful games out with increasing frequency. Desilets said screw you guys, so they fired him for not be obedient. I just want Beyond Good and Evil 2 already,, I'm sick of Ass Creed.
