The Assassin's Creed movie is coming to a cinema near you in two years time, as 20th Century Fox has now scheduled the flick for a 2015 release.

With Michael Fassbender in the frame to both produce the film and take the starring role, and screenwriter Michael Lesslie on board to ink the script, it looks like the Assassin's Creed movie is most definitely on.

Rumours abound that Fassbender will play Desmond Miles, which presumably means he'll play the ancestor or ancestors too. Ubisoft also has Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell movies in the offing.

The Assassin's Creed movie is scheduled for a May 22nd, 2015 release.

  • Yea buddy, i'm excited.
  • I'm tentatively excited. It could turn out brilliant...but it could also not.
  • Hope they'll do a good job because most of movies based on video game are not good...
  • Love Michael Fassbender he was awesome in X Men, Fable 3 and 300.
  • Hopefully it is good. I can't think of any video game movie that has been good yet. It needs more than just a big budget.
  • I have little faith in this being any good, especially if Hollywood get their hands on it. Hitman is a classic example of this. Explosions all over the place and he ends up falling in love with someone he is meant to kill. Yeah like that would happen in the game. That film had some much potential...great tense stealth parts and silent killing instead we got the complete opposite, massive explosions and guns blazing.
  • I'd really like to see one of the video game publishers or movie studios make a CGI film instead of doing a live action movie. I hope this turns out good though, I think Fassbender's a good choice.
  • @4 Cant forget Prometheus, I loved his performance as David in that movie.
  • As long as they stay true to the first game....it will be awesome.
  • I was kinda hoping they stay away from Desmond or his ancestors. Instead they could focus on the subjects like 15.
  • This is actually amazing! In today's movie industry, this movie can turn out very successful!
  • I like how they schedule it for May 22nd 2015. Not 2015 or May 2015, but May 22nd 2015. That is pretty precise, it MUST coincide with a game release as well.
  • I'm pretty sure Assassin's Creed 6 comes out October of 2015 as well
  • hopefully this isn't as monotonous as the games. climb on ledge jump off assassinate target kill guards escape pursuit over and over again
  • Ooh, I can't wait! I've been waiting on both this movie and God of War ever since they were first announced a year or so ago! I hope they don't get screwed up -_-
  • Great news! I'm so hype for this...even though a lot of people lost faith in video game movies a while ago, I still have faith that this could turn out awesome. I'm wondering if they're gonna base this off of the Crusades, the Renaissance, or the American Revolution?
  • As long as it's better than AC3, I'm willing to have some hope. I don't have a whole lot left for this franchise, but we'll see how they do.
  • what about the Bioshock movie? That plan got submerged, bad pun intended.
  • @3 The Resident Evil series is pretty good.
  • @6: Keep hearing about Ubisoft's aggressive approach to their 'creative control' on their IPs, which is why this is only getting off the ground now. It should be good for a few Variety articles. :)
  • Ac3 was one of the best games ever made, so this should be good as well with the right treatment.
  • At least Michael Bay isn't directing. Sure he'd fine plenty to blow up in the middle ages...
  • Hope it turns out great, Assassin's Creed seems like a prime candidate that they wouldn't have to alter too much to be pretty mass appealing
  • I'm really looking forward to this. The first time i'd heard of Michael was when he was in Fable III, and he hasn't disappointed since. He'll being credibility to the role, and as long as they keep it faithful, then it should be good. If they do have Desmond scenes, then I hope to god they don't try to make them too comedic as they might come off a little cheesy.
  • Is it just me who thinks that Assassins creed being milked to within an inch of it life now?
  • I'm not going to be surprised in the least if this date changes. On May first of 2015 The Avengers 2 is set to be released and will ineveitably be a monster of a hit. While it hasn't officially set for a May release Star Wars: Episode VII is probably coming out that month as well. Disney has said 2015 and all of the six other Star Wars movies have had a May release, so it's a decent assumption that will also come out that month. Between those two juggernauts I think Fox would be crazy to release this that month. Good lord Disney is going to make a shit ton of money in 2015.
  • @26 Yes, with Avengers 2 coming out that month, I don't see Assassin's Creed having much of a chance making a lot of money. Although, I don't see Star Wars coming that month, as Disney owns Marvel as well. Most likely late June/early July for that.
  • Will this be 80% filler with an incomprehensibly stupid plot like recent games in the series? Pass. I love Fassbender, but not enough to put up with more Assassins Creed. That cow's been milked so hard that... actually, I won't finish that sentence.
  • While I want to see it...should you really try to come out the same time as Avengers 2? That's a bit risky.
  • I'll be shocked if this even makes pre-production. I love Fassbender but I just think an AC movie is too ambitious and costly to pull off. BTW 2015 is stacked Avengers II, Star Wars Ep 7, Avtar 2 and Justice League.
  • i really just wish they would do call of duty movies
  • Christian Bale would have been a good choice to, but then again, people now know him as batman. There are similarities with the assassin's and batman however...I think his voice would be a good fit though. Anyway, my two cents.
  • @26 I don't think Disney would release Star Wars and Avengers 2 in the same month so they would compete with themselves in the box office.
  • David Belle would make an awesome choice to play in this movie! Seriously, go see District 13. He'd be perfect for the role.
