Batman: Arkham Origins
Voice Actor Outs New Batman: Arkham Game
Written By
View author's profile

We were hoping to put the Batman voice actor confusion to bed after today's to-ing and fro-ing, but there's been a dramatic development.

It seems that in trying to clear up any crossed wires, voice actor Kevin Conroy has inadvertently revealed the existence of a further Arkham title in development, scheduled for release after Batman: Arkham Origins.

So let's go back to the start. For a while now it has been widely believed that actor Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, would not be reprising his role in the upcoming Arkham Origins.

But then over the weekend, while in attendance at the Dallas Comic Con, Conroy said that he had been working on "the next Arkham game" for around 9 months, leading many to presume that he would indeed by playing Batman in the upcoming, announced title.

But no. Warner Bros. then steped up to confirm say that Ezio Auditore, Chris Redfield and Sonic the Hedgehog actor Roger Craig Smith would be taking the role. And that, we thought, was that.

But then Conroy stepped up onto Twitter to try and clear up the confusion himself, and inadvertently let the bat out of the bag.

"Confusion in Dallas!," he wrote. "I am in new ARKHAM GAME coming soon, NOT ARKHAM ORIGINS coming this fall."

The tweet has since been deleted, presumably because the actor got spanked by Warner Bros. for announcing their new game without consent.

So, if we've got this straight and all this messing around hasn't made us disappear up our own bums, there's a new Arkham game coming next year, after the release of Arkham Origins.

And, seeing as we've been making baseless presumptions all day, let's make another one: it's going to be developed by Rocksteady for next-gen consoles.

Possibly.

I don't think it will be a release title, I should think the earliest we will see this on is this time next year, I would think Arkham Origins will be multi plat and will be on next gen aswell as current. But to me it seems WB are really cutting this fine, 2 games in the same series this close together, soon people will loose faith and believe they are just going to milk the series as a yearly release like Activition, EA and Ubisoft. I sure hope I'm wrong and this is a one of occasion due to the new consoles, but only time will tell if Warner Brothers have fell victim to yearly cash cow greed.

Cool. It's going to become a washed out franchise with a new game every year.

@8 Oh no, the inevitable CoD comparisons, even though there in no comparisons in this critically-acclaimed Action Adventure series to that of the previously mentioned critically-acclaimed FPS series, have well and truly begun.

I'm guessing a next gen 'Arkham HD Trilogy' bundling in Asylum & City with the new one for about £70

Well that's not a huge surprise as we know Rocksteady aren't developing Origins. Rumors were floating around that the next Rocksteady Batman was going to cover how the Dark Knight became involved with the Justice League, now that would kick ass.

Right, so now I can skip Batman 'cash cow' Origins: Diet edition... and buy the 'real Batman sequal' when it is ready.

No way will this be ready for the Infinity launch, Warner Bros wouldn't be stupide enough to release two Batman games within months of each other. You'll likely see this for fall 2014 or early 2015. Hopefully it's announced at E3.

My theory is that Askham Origins is pretty much a gap filler for the cross over to next-gen. I bet it'll take more than the average 2 year development time for Rocksteady to make its next-gen debut and so in the mean time to stop the the franchise from going dry they've enlisted the talents of WB Montreal (who have the experience of working with the games code after porting the previous game to the Wii U) to create an all new game set as an origin story as well as something that the fans can have something new to play until the arrival of the next-gen games in about 2 years time.

Only thing is that Kevin Conroy has split WB's bag of surprise plans for E3 2015.

@20 Arkham City was released in 2011 so Rocksteady have already had just over a year development time, I'd expect an annoucement way earlier than E3 2015.

So, Arkham Origins is a confirmed cash cow. Awesome. I called it, just like 20% of core gamers did.

Looks like I'll "pass" on Origins. :D

@22 Yeah that is true but given WB track record of Arkham releases (2009, 2011, 2013) 2015 seems like an plausible time to announce and release Arkham 4 plus having another Arkham game released a year after Origins be like milking the franchise.

don't forget that there IS another Batman game due for PSV and 3DS:-Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate, but its due the same day as Origins..so i can't imagine it being Conroy for that game but not origins(set directly after Origins storyline)

I'm just throwing this out there but is it possible they will unveil the new Arkham at tomorrows Xbox reveal or at E3 for next gen systems?

Conroy might be aware they were revealing it soon, so presumed that when he heard that a new Arkham had been announced that was his one.

Also I'm slightly tired, so I apologize if that doesn't make sense.

Given the track record of the industry, I find it more likely to believe that Origins is meant to "milk" the series and clear up any confusions for the sequel to Arkham City(Which I believe will be handled by Rocksteady).

If this game is anything like Arkham City I don't want to be bothered. They took the masterpiece of Asylum and ...I don't know what they did. But they need to undo it.

I thought we already knew this? I could have sworn that I read in earlier coverage that Arkham Origins was being developed in addition to a proper sequel. Well, maybe it was just supposition and this was confirmation. Weird. (I really want to go back and re-read previous coverage to see what gave me that impression.)
