DICE Quashes Hopes of Battlefield: Bad Company 3

DICE has crushed any hopes of a new Battlefield: Bad Company game beneath its cold, giant military boots.

With the studio currently focused on creating Battlefield 4, some fans have been enquiring about the status of the Bad Company sub-series and asking whether we should expect another entry. But the news isn’t great.

"We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development," tweeted Battlefield’s official Twitter account. "Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year."

It’s not the first time DICE has expressed its love for the Battlefield spin-off, while shooting down any hopes of another sequel. Last year Community Manager Ian Tornay said there were no plans for the game but, "I can tell you that it's not due to any lack of love for BC inside of DICE. Everyone I've talked to there is very proud and fond of it."

Still though, all the evidence points to the fact that DICE is indeed working on Mirror’s Edge 2, so we can’t have it all.

  • I personally preferred the BC2 campaign over Battlefield 3 which was even shorter and easier than the COD campaigns.
  • I liked that you could take down buildings in BC2. And the maps were better suited for console play also. Not that BF3 was bad, but it felt empty.
  • BC2 was incredible, dare I say it was better than BF3. Really gutted bout no BC3 but at least there's something about Mirrors Edge 2 being in development, silver lining and all that
  • Of course BC2's campaign was a hell of a lot better then B3, but the online is pretty much the same in these games right? I'm sure they'll release BC3 after B4 anyway, just give it another year or so
  • I preferred bad company 2 over bf3. When bf4 comes out on the new gen it wont be has gd has the next one. (Lets hope its bc3)
  • Sonsabitches!
  • My guess is that BC2 will be the next game after BF4. In fact, it might even replace MoH as the off year shooter release from EA.
  • BC2 was amazing, nearly as good as BF3 for me. They should have worked on this before BF4.
  • wait, were people actually expecting them to be making bf4 and bc3 at the same time? O_o
  • #9 Different project teams perhaps? As happens often in gaming industries. It seems like I'm the only one thinking that this isn't really a bad thing. Battlefield 3's campaign wasn't really good and well put together, but it wasn't atrocious either. I think DICE learned their lesson there, and that's why I'm genuinely excited for the new campaign of Battlefield 4. Sure, Bad Company 2 was amazing, but I don't want DICE to end up like the studio(s) making CoD. Every year a new title and all that.
  • Multiplayer wise it will always be the same, but the story of Bad Company is way over the top of the regular series. Here's hoping for me in the not-to-distant future.
  • don't waste or time dice.... we want bc3 after bf4 leave moh to die! please and thank you
  • I liked bad company's story and humor better than BC2. Lived both! I liked that the characters didn't take things so seriously in one. I loved the humor. I hope no Bad Company in the works means Star Wars Battlefront is being worked on.
  • #13 Read your comment again. We all know what you mean, but it's still very weird to read.
  • Just give me BF4 and Mirrors Edge 2 and I'll be happy.
  • I wonder if they could deny they Battlefield 5 is in development?
  • Shame
  • I loved BC2's multiplayer, but it was BC1's campaign that hooked me on Battlefield. That's mainly because they royally messed the story and characters in the campaign. You never heard Haggard or Redford yell "fuck" so many times in the first installment. Reasons on end why I fell so in love with the boys of Bravo. That being said, I also miss Gold Crates, that sarcastic voice over announcer, and Mike One Juliet. These are things on my wishlist for BF:BC3, which might be part of the reason why one isn't in the pipe. After all, military shooters are all about hyper-realism and being dark and edgy and... stuff.. like that. Yeah.
  • The only Battlefield games I ever played were the BC games. I probably wouldn't have bought BC3 but I still don't understand what the difference would be in developing that one versus Battlefield 4, or 5, or 6? Also I'm sure Mirrors Edge had a small cult following, not nearly close to the community BC had, so FAIL.
  • @10 I agree hopefully it wont go down a CoD route and have a Battlefield game, then the year after a Bad company game and so on.
  • Destruction 2.0 > Battlefield 3
  • I really do not want to come across as a troll here because that is definitely not my intention, but I really do not see what all the fuss with BC was about. I found the campaign in both of them boring and the characters extremely forgettable and even annoying in some cases. The multiplayer seemed a lot more fluid to me than BF3's is and Destruction 2.0 really was awesome but the fact that you couldn't go prone pissed me off enough to stop playing it. I'd much rather they made a decent realistic Battlefield game out of BF4, in the same vein as BF3 (although hopefully a lot more polished than BF3), than another BC game hands down.
  • Totally correct 14. Sleepy and from my phone. Auto correct. No excuse really. Bad company one's story was the best. 2 was just ok.
  • Glad to hear it, the Bad Company characters were stupid. I don't know why so many people thought they were great.
  • BC2 > BF3, thats the reason I'm still playing it now. The game just feels more coherent, more fun! Plus the single player was miles better than BF3........
  • Bad Company 2 had one of the funnest SP experiences for me this gen, you know, back where Frostbit existed and buildings could be blown apart, before they sold the engine out to make it more COD based with less destruction in BF3. Shame.
  • The title is misleading. There will be another Bad Company game, BC2 sold over 7 million copies, DICE knows it's popular. It's just not in development right now, that doesn't mean they aren't planning it or gathering ideas for it.
  • BC2 was the favorite out of all the games so far. More destruction, better maps, better equipment IMO, better singleplayer, collectible guns, nearly better everything.
  • :(
  • I hope there is a bc3 as I've never felt connected to the characters in bf3 then in the bc games. I think 3 was a great game and all but with an underselling story and too much focus on the amazing online.
  • That's a shame considering BC2 was better than BF3.
  • The two Bad Company games were far more enjoyable to play than Battlefield 3 was. I was addicted to BC2's multiplayer.
  • So yes, BF3 had far better graphics and it felt more realistic, but the story line was far too predictable. Now BFBC2 was amazing, the story line was great and it felt like DICE put the heart into the game and wasnt trying to rush another COD look a like to cash in on
  • Bad Company 1 had a much better campaign than Bad Company 2, but both were better than Battlefield 3's campaign. I don't have high hopes for a memorable campaign experience from Bad Company 3 or Battlefield 4.
  • 4: I loved BC2 online so much that I made a full squadron of CoD fanboys buy it and play it with me, and they all loved it so much that BF3 was a day one purchase for all of us... and we all hated it.
  • BC2 was way better than BF3 Need BC3
  • damn i wanted another bad company so bad
  • So we have to watch this Battlefield 4 shit release...
  • Bad Company was great. Bad Company 2 not so much.
  • i would rather have another Bad Company game, damn the wait....
  • I really enjoyed the Bad Company campaigns more than the Battlefield 3 campaign. The characters were actually memorable (especially Haggard), blowing up buildings was plain fun and looking for new guns was a decent way to add longevity to the campaign (as well as give you an excuse to explore). Other than that, I'm not a huge fan of this series. Too slow-paced compared to Call of Duty. Still a good series, just not one I find myself playing a lot.
  • I loved BC2 because it actually had battlefield style story missions, not just cod cloned crap. I liked the slower pace, it made your responses quicker because it gave you more time to react. BC2: Vietnam was the best MP DLC that has ever been created. I wish they would do more in a standalone XBLA game similar to 1943 only with the updated engine. BF3 is still good though, I just get sick of the so called "local based hit detection" it throws you off when you think you are doing damage and you arent. That compiled with suppression as if this didn't exist it would sort out all the inconsistentcies in the game. It is a shame, BC2 multiplayer was a god damn masterpiece, never ever had a bad game on it ever, never got annoyed with it.
