Hideo Kojima has been talking up the online elements of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain at E3 this week.

According to the series creator, the game will see the return of multiplayer element Metal Gear Online, while also offering players the ability to create and share missions.

With regards to MGO, Kojima said, "Yes, we plan on creating Metal Gear Online. Multiplayer right now is being created at our LA studio as well as us. We're working closely to create a vast multiplayer for all the fans."

With regards to the user generated missions, Kojima said, "The first reason why I wanted to go open-world is because I wanted to create a world that had a lot of freedom and allowed users to create their own gameplay.”

"The other reason for the game going open-world is that we wanted to use multiple devices for this game. So using tablets and smart phones you can also enjoy MGSV and create user-generated missions within the world.”

“That's another reason we had to go open-world - if it was linear we wouldn't be able to do that.”

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain opened up Microsoft’s E3 press conference on Monday with a brilliant trailer showing off some of the upcoming title’s gameplay, an extended version of which you can watch below.

Meanwhile, BioShock: Infinite (Booker DeWitt) and The Last Of Us (Joel) voice actor Troy Baker has been confirmed as the voice of Ocelot. The news comes following Kiefer Sutherland’s announcement as the new voice of Snake.
