Yukio Futatsugi is hoping that Crimson Dragon will be such a success on Xbox One that he can develop the game into an RPG series.
Futatsugi is best known for his work on the Panzer Dragoon games. He directed the first title as well as the critically-acclaimed Panzer Dragoon Saga for SEGA Saturn.
The original Panzer Dragoon was an on-rails shooter, while Panzer Dragoon Saga was an RPG. Futatsugi is hoping that Crimson Dragon will follow a similar trajectory.
Although Futatsugi and his team at Grounding Inc are deep in development on Crimson Dragon, the game has been created in such a way that it could be evolved into a role-playing title, the director told Joystiq at E3.
He’s got the team for it too, including the programming and art leads, as well as the sound team, that worked on Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Crimson Dragon was first revealed back in 2010, as Project Draco, an on-rails Kinect-powered Xbox Live Arcade game. However, it never arrived on XBLA and instead popped up at E3 last week as an Xbox One exclusive.
And not only has the platform changed, the control method has too. Crimson Dragon will now be played primarily with a controller, not with Kinect. You can see the game’s re-announcement trailer below.
