Saints Row IV Devs: "We’ve Treated This as the End of The Saga"

When the first Saints Row hit shelves 7 years ago, it was a relatively straight-faced open-world Xbox 360-exclusive staring a low level gang member.

Since then the series has evolved in a bizarre direction, culminating in the upcoming Saints Row IV, a multiplatform, open-world title with dubstep guns in which you play a superpowered President of the USA.

So when you’ve already twisted the dial past crazy and up into full-on dribbling lunacy, where do you go from there?

That’s exactly the question we asked Saints Row IV’s Design Director Scott Phillips during this year’s E3. His answer? He feels the fourth iteration of the game is the end of a saga.

“Saints Row IV has a great trajectory to its story. You start off as the President of the United States of America and... where we end you is perfectly fitting for that,” said Phillips, mysteriously.

“We’ve kind of treated this as the end of that saga. We started out the console generation and we’re going to end the console generation with this Saints Row having followed this crazy arc. Where we go from there, who knows.”

Will Saints Row get any crazier as we go into the next generation of consoles? Do we even want it to? According to Dan’s hands-on preview from E3, it may have gone too far already. Read all the details through here.

Saints Row IV is out on August 20th in North America and August 23rd in Europe.
