Konami has released a lovely new batch of screenshots for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, once again demonstrating developer MercurySteam's eye for rich textures and opulent environments.

In the rather eye-catching shots, you'll see Gabriel Belmont enjoying his time as all-powerful bloodsucker Dracula, wielding his Chaos Claws and formidable Void Sword. There's a look at some of the new characters you'll encounter too.

Check out a bunch of the new images below. You can pore over all 11 screens in the gallery. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is out in winter 2013, and you should hit up our latest hands-on preview for more info.

Maybe i'm too old school but I prefer my Castlevania games in side scrolling 2D. There hasn't been a better one than Symphony of the Night in recent memory, and I hope it's a style they intend on revisiting sometime in the future on consoles.

Screenshots look nice. I really like first series. Hopeful 2nd series best and better then ever. I do hope achievements list is better this time for 2nd game.

Defo preorder this. My favourite Castlevania game is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on PSone and I did played this game around in 1999. This game released in 1997 but I bought game in 1999 and played almost loved this also bought this with Crash Bandicoot game. :)

I also really hope Konami bring HD version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Nigh because it is best Castlevania. :)

@1. I'm 26 and have played many if not all of Castlevania's reiterations. And by far what they've done here is the best if the best. Lords of Shadow 1 was one of the most overlooked and underrated games of the last 5 years. What they've done with the series now is beyond amazing. I'm happy with what they've done. If you want your Castlevania in 2D form, I suggest sticking with Nintendo.

@1&3 I liked harmony of despair. Thought it was great. I liked the zoom in out feature too. Which has stopped me playing SOTN. I know that's a bad thing to not play it for. SOTN is supposed to be awesome and my friends urge me to get it constantly. I think I will.

@1 They did, it's called Castlevania HD. The old 2D games were obviously amazing but LOS was really good so I'm looking forward to this.

Ooooo preeety.

@1 I couldn't agree more with you, I'm just happy were getting more Castlevania games. I'll take em in any way shape or form, doesn't bother me.

When I'm in a oldschool mood, I'll bust out the Turbo grafx and play some Rhondo of Blood, or the Genesis and rock some Bloodlines. ^_^

Everyone seems to reference Symphony of the Night as their favorite Castlevania game...I don't blame them but if you want a play a Castlevania game equally as good.

Try Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow. Two amazing titles with as much if not more weapon choices than Symphony. Plus you get to steal souls. ;)

I loved Super Castlevania IV on the SNES. That's what made me pick up the original of this, and it was awesome as well.

5th Screenshot looks like someone will get "blown" away^^

But btt : I´m pretty sure this game will be great... had my problems with the first one in the first chapters, but later Castlevania become awesome!
Great atmosphere and enemies. really cool

Maybe they bring some high quality 2D-Castlevanias over XBoX Live, as a retail it wouldn´t sell i think, but as lovely desingned arcade title it would find his fans!

@1 Before LoS I would of agreed with you. I tried to like the 3D PS2 games and while they weren't terrible they also didn't feel like CV to me. LoS actually felt like a CV game. While it doesn't top the list of my favorite CV games it is respectable enough to warrant the title. LoS2 is looking very good as well.

I recommend everyone to try Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse (NES) & Castlevania Bloodline (Genesis). Those two were great games that were sadly overlooked.

@4 I urge you as well, seriously. You won't regret it.

I'm not discrediting what they did with Lords Of Shadow, and don't misunderstand my comment as bashing on the newer 3D installments of Castlevania games because i'm not. It's just a personal preference after playing all the ones I have, from NES to the Gameboy versions, it's hard to see a classic take such a drastic change. I'll play this like i've played the others, I just don't want to see the series forget it's roots. I'll be happy with another next-gen arcade version similar to Castlevania HD or SOTN, as long as they continue to make them.

If this makes it to PC I will be very happy indeed.

@1
What are you even talking about. There have been plenty of game in the vain of SOTN on consoles. Have you not been playing games for the past 6 years?

I really hope they add some RPG elements to this and make it more like an action RPG.

@15
Actually it's your epic fail because he wants Castlevania Symphony of the Nigh. So the HD "verison" of Castlevania Symphony of the Night isn't what he wants. What's a "verison"? The version of SOTN is not an HD version so yes it would be nice if they made a High Definition version. The one we have now is just the same old game we already had. What makes you think it's HD? Because it's an upscaled version that you can play on a HDTV? That doesn't make it an HD version. All they did was emulate the Playstation version on 360 and they modded some of the interace to have 360 buttons. It still has the same low resolution sprites. It's not like they literally redid the whole game and recompiled a new version specifically for 360. I think #2 wants an actual HD version like the other HD versions of games, you know the ones with the assets redone in a higher resolution. Like earthworm jim hd, street fighter 2 hd, and all the other "HD" remakes that don't just have the same old low resolution sprites from the original games. I personally think that these "hd" remakes make the graphics look horribly worse but I think that's what he wants though. Next time you should read a little better before being disrespectful.

@19 You should take your own advice. My comment stated that there hasn't been a better Castlevania game since SOTN, you know, the game that this article is about? Said nothing about other games on the console since SOTN, just Castlevania. Next time you should read a little better before being disrespectful.
