Hot on the heels of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified's previous dev diary, this second entry takes a look at the art and design, and how the shift from the originally announced version of 2K Marin's XCOM to The Bureau had an impact on the art direction. It's darker in tone, apparently.

Art Director Jeff Weir talks about concocting the darker and more realistic art style for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, with Creative Director Morgan Gray weighing in on how scary the aliens are, making for a "high stakes" scenario. Touchstones include The Day the Earth Stood Still and The X-Files.

There's also a sprinkling of Mad Men's 60s period authenticity too. You can learn more about the game's art and design in the latest developer diary below. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is out on August 20th in North America and August 23rd in Europe.

i dunno ... the graphics look like XBOX graphics, not 360 graphics ... shame about that. Gameplay looks interesting, but I don't get any of the "dark" and "gritty" feeling that the concept art shows, or even the live action trailers. It looks way too colorful to be taken seriously. Might get it, probably wont. Hope to hear more about XCOM: Enemy Within!
