First-person heist-em-up Payday 2 has sold 1.58 million copies, developer Payday 2 has revealed.
As noted in Starbreeze’s recent note to investors, most of those sales were digital. Extrapolating, it’s likely that the majority of these sales were on PC.
Why? Well, the game’s predecessor Payday: The Heist was only released as a download on PS3 and PC. And while the PS3 version performed solidly, it was on PC that the game flourished, building up an impressive following.
That’s all speculation however. The real story is that the game is a hit, and great news for fans who’re interested in playing shooters with a difference. Hurrah!
In Payday 2, players carry out a series of bank heists and robberies through a combination of reconnaissance, stealth, point defence and combat. More than just an all-out shooter, it has ideas of its own. It’s well worth checking out.
