Xbox One Gameplay Vid Sharing Coming to YouTube, Facebook in 2014
Written By
View author's profile

The Xbox One will be able to capture gameplay footage that you can share with your friends, but at launch you’ll only be able to do so over Xbox Live.

That’s according to Xbox One head of product planning Albert Penello, who told Destructoid that sharing over social networks like YouTube and Facebook will come at some point in 2014.

The Xbox One records your last five minutes of gameplay automatically, which it can then play back and share at a fixed 30 frames per second in 720p, regardless of the game’s native settings.

To gain access to this functionality, Xbox One owners have to be Xbox Live Gold members.

Xbox One launches on November 22nd.

It's a nice feature, but since there's no HDCP, my HD-PVR2 will be fine.

Can we save them to the hard drive / removable device. then put them on our computers and edit them?

Otherwise i don't see too much use for this. How often do people need 5 mins of raw unedited footage on youtube.

@5 If I remember correctly, MS announced you would be able to edit your footage before uploading.

Cool feature to have. Probably annoy my friends with it though once I can upload to Facebook. It says for Gold members, but will my current Gold carry over onto Xbox One? Not seen anything mentioned about it.

@6, Yeah just changing the length. But adding after effects or an intro would need a computer. But I have an HD-PVR, that I rarely use anyway, that I can record for as long as I want and edit it on the spot.

You know, for those of us who haven't been able to buy a capture device, this is still pretty cool of MS. They didn't have to give us the ability to dvr gameplay.

I'd need to upgrade my capture card to hd, rather then my standard depth one, this service just isn't all that useful for LPers or Machinima makers, it's far to short and limiting, it'd of been better if they'ed let you take the footage onto an external device and use it from there however you like.

Great, like youtube wasn't already flooded with peoples attempts at showing off their "awesome skills" and funny clips.

If you use a separate device PVR 2 or whatever to record, will you be able to share those over Xbox live?

Although I'm looking forward to my Xbox One, I don't really see a use for it? Although saying that, perhaps it'll be easier to compile "1000G guides" for games.

What about Twitch any news on whether live streaming will work? Also was it Xbox One or PS4 that said you could just click on your friends list and watch them play live ... offer help, take over their game for them etc.

Nice feature i guess but i will likely never use it... streaming over Twitch perhaps but five mins of footage on Facebook or Twitter etc, not really something i personally have any need for.

I wouldn't count on the youtube thing working, ever.

Google are a set of pricks, who constantly change the authorisation protocol, which often blocks software / hardware from using their usual method of uploading, just because.....

They've blocked windows phone apps, they've blocked Trials Evolution : gold edition, all because they don't like MS

I can't imagine there will be any difference with the Xbox when it releases and has this upload protocol in place, google will just change how youtube allows things and MS will need to redo the upload protocol, then they will change it again, MS will fix it, then take google to court over it, google will lose

I agree with 16. I can't stand vids from games which support video uploads, as it is, let alone making it universal. I can count on one hand the number of truely amazing videogame feats I would want to have recorded this gen. Mile High on Veteran, being one, and the others involving Peggle, probably. Most videogame stuff is pretty boring for other people to watch. Games are for playing. The exception is for creating guides and walkthroughs, which are of course very useful.

5 minutes :D wow that's super impressive for a 500GB machine that costs £400+
prefer to use my capture card, records unlimited gameplay that I can fully edit on my PC and that only cost me £80

actually guys, youtube is full of adverts

either game trailers, movie trailers whatever, all posted by multiple sources...some music, often posted by the label - and countless copies of same videos by normal users......then you have a few reviewers, who all inevitably say the same thing [because they're not "official" reviewers, they bought the game, so only review games they like, pointless]

then there are a few people who post music related stuff [be it live or whatever]

youtube is pretty shit thinking about it - I personally watch drummers & collectible guides on it, that is all [oh, and a few Trials HD/Evo videos]
however to those of you who say you would never watch peoples self proclaimed 1337 sk1llz videos, well, that is where the community went wrong, you watch specific peoples videos, you may only pick up minor hints at how to play, but it will improve your game [I speak from ancient experience however, there is very little worth learning about modern games, not as many buttons or techniques as there was in oldschool FPS multiplayer - I still never got the hang of quake rocket jumping (accurately) though

I doubt I will utilize this feature as well as many other features, but it is nice to see the addition. I will probably only utilize the x1 for games, cable and NFL application, but it is nice to see other options for people that may want these features. Just because I won't use it doesn't mean others won't enjoy it.

At this point I just want to start playing Dead Rising 3
