Epic has released a new video today, looking at what its Unreal Engine 4 can do as far as crafting believable, detailed character models for next-gen platforms is concerned.

The studio's Jordan Walker and Zak Parrish discuss how artists were able to create the characters in the "Infiltrator" real-time demonstration, which you can watch in its entirety below.

There's also a quick walkthrough showing what can be done with Unreal Engine 4's art pipeline and layered materials. Conclusion: Unreal Engine 4 can make things that look rather lovely. Check out the vid.

Epic is going to give Crytek a run for their engine's money at this rate. I only fear a low frame-rate, especially if these engines are ultra demanding. Just imagine how games will look at the end of the upcoming gen! Add in an Oculus rift and some significantly improved motion controls and gaming will reach a new level of immersion! Can't wait!

Epic should have their shit together. UE3 was ubiquitous at one point but CryEngine 3 seems to be taking off (Far Cry 3, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, State Of Decay) on consoles with Unity being everywhere on mobile.

Has the 'first' UE4 game even come out yet? I believe it was a PC exclusive called Fortnite but it's gone dark for a while.

@3 fortnite is still coming out. Not until next year sometime though. Think the new Theif or Murdered soul suspect might be the first game released using the unreal engine 4 unless those are using the UE3 still. Can't remember if Outlasts was using UE3 or 4 either. But any way I think Fortnite is a PC only game.

I'm very excited for next gen having seen this. I just really hope we see a quality Unreal Tournament title come out in the next few years. Without a doubt, that's one of my favorite shooters of all time. Don't get me wrong I like Gears of War a lot too but come on Epic, let's do something different for a change.

I wonder when we'll get to the point of measuring graphics by how many pixels we can get in a hair on a character...

@4 Are you sure about Fortnite, I haven't heard anything on it at all. You can't find anything either, it's literally been invisible for a year or more....

Also, this video didn't show much of anything impressive.....cinematics are a waste to show...

@2/3: if you mean literal money, its not even close. Epic destroys Crytek in sales and licenses. I personally prefer Crytek games in general. URE is by far the best seller. .
