Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
New Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Trailer Features Infamous Pirates

View author's profile

Another Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag trailer has emerged from the briny depths today, offering a little more insight into the game's swashbuckling story, with its cast of infamous pirates including Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Benjamin Hornigold, and of course, Edward Kenway.

Kenway is described in the video by the actor who plays him (Matt Ryan) as a "selfish and ambitious pirate... the uneasy ally of assassins, the bane of templars and the enemy of empires." Sounds like a nice guy. Then there's the rest of the motley pirate crew that he'll be rubbing shoulders with. You can find out more about them in the video.

Watch the latest trailer below. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is out on October 29th in North America and November 1st in Europe on Xbox 360. It'll be heading to Xbox One at launch on November 22nd.

Seems cool but I'm concerned about what happened when Desmond due to the AC 3 cliffhanger.

Ubisoft: "Damn guys it's been a week since we put out a video. I think we need to release another one to make sure people remember we have yet another yearly iteration coming out. And remember to keep plugging that pirate angle, we don't want anyone to forget this game is amount an assassin who is also a PIRATE. PIRATE!!!"

Don't get me wrong, the game looks good. But so did AC3. Oh, you people forgot about all the bugs and glitches and will still buy Black Flag.

@8 So true....this series has wandered form the path of the Creed. They decided to milk the series for yearly crap that all these idiots will buy on day one.

I skipped the last three AC games at launch and just did quick playthroughs when they hit bargain bins (still haven't played AC3 at all). I'm thinking I'll buy this one at launch.

As for the weekly videos, I've watched about 3 videos for this game (reveal trailer, multiplayer trailer, and this) so the weekly trailers actually worked. You're not meant to watch all of them - you're meant to eventually notice one when you're bored and click on it.

AC3 was one of the most disappointing games I have ever played. Too many bugs for my liking, so I'm passing on this one.

@12 I had no bugs. It was an amazing game in my opinion.

I love pirate related things so I'll definitely be getting this. (for the Xbox One though)

@14 Figures you guys would be mad. I'm still disappointed about AC3 too. Don't worry, rumors about the next Assassins Creed is that it will be a clown. You're gonna love it cause you guys buy anything with the Assassins Creed logo on it. Just like the Call of Duty fanboys. The death of this series is sad to me.

@8 I havent forgot about all the glitches... It was a great game once they sorted it out. But this is now the first AC I didn't pre-order. I'll wait till it drops in price and is bug and glitch free.
Don't get me wrong I love all the AC games, but all those glitches and bugs ruined the game experience for me.

Looks cool. Think this might be my X1 launch title actually, as it's going to be brimming with content. My first ever AC title too so I'm pretty excited :)

@15 - It wasn't about being mad. At all. I never played AC3. I loved all the other AC but I spent much of that year travelling and what gaming I had was directed elsewhere. I don't care for Desmond and in the end I couldn't give a shit what happened to him. Black Flag signals almost a reset, the game mechanics and setting seem fresh for the series and the engine looks amazing. Genuine things to look forward to. Throwing in a CoD dig was easy and cheap and I'm a BF guy. The rest of us are idiots for looking forward to something that has waned for you? You're being a pretentious asshole, that's why you can go fuck yourself.

@18 so typical....nothing really productive to say in a discussion so you line it with expletives. So you are ready for a Reset because you don't like Desmond? Do you also dislike a well-written story? A realistic backdrop for an "assassin"? You haven't even played the worst of the series in AC3. You opinion, like your vocabulary, is childish and ill-informed.

#19 - Yes I'm ready for a reset because I don't particularly like Desmond as a character, I said that. How does that translate to the rest of that?

My post had a number of productive points informed by what we have seen over the last few months as to why many of us are looking forward to Black Flag and will be buying it day one.

What part of your post was the most productive? Its entire purpose was to elevate yourself above the day one idiots. Your derision continued in your follow up and if anything was childish it was your final flimsy call to the inflammatory "just like CoD fanboys" because you had no where else to go.

My vocabulary is just fine, it just has a primal association of pretentious asshole with go fuck yourself.

@20 Go play AC3 and then tell me the series in going int the right direction. You don't take a successful franchise and change it up. Ubisoft got greedy, added MP to the series so they can sell Map Packs and sacrificed story by making a game every year.

You want a Pirate game fine....but don't do it at the expense of one of the greatest series of all time. How the heck are you supposed to be stealth as a pirate....or a native american warrior?

Keep lying to yourself....yeah an Assassin Pirate is believable. Again still waiting on some substance to your opinion of this game...besides "go fuck yourself". Typical pre-teen behavior.

@21 - "Typical pre-teen"; you're just pulling out all the tropes aren't you.

Of course you take a successful franchise and change it up. You grow and adapt, stay relevant and distinguish. If you want to play the same game again and again and again find a lesser franchise without the will or market share to further it's ambitions. There are a lot of people, including myself, who enjoyed the AC multiplayer. Going up against real people, honing your own assassination skills, the point of the game... Was it perfect? No, but it was fun and unique and was refined the next iteration and will be again. "Grrr greedy corporations" is such a shallow, detached and one dimensional response, not a reasoned opinion.

How are you supposed to be an assassin pirate? Don't know. Neither do you. No one knows, it's not out yet. But you're prepared to dismiss it based on something other than the game itself. That's ill-informed.

What we do know is that he doesn't start as an assassin at all, he's selfish and ambitious and "he's an uneasy ally of the assassins" and must become an assassin himself. The Heroes Journey. Sounds like one want to go on.

As you say it's a fantastic story they have been telling. But part of that story line is winding down and with it the sins of the father. Black Flag is a new chapter, one I'm keen for as the aspect I've least enjoyed is gone.

I'm not sure what substance to my opinion you are waiting for, it's all there, but I'll clarify what I have already said. I'm looking forward to AC having a spiritual reboot by moving on from Desmond, a character I found to be thin and uninspired. I'm looking forward to an entirely new story and setting, one that doesn't just feel like light extension to what came before. I'm looking forward to the new mechanics; naval warfare looks exciting and the deeper stealth system more fulfilling. I'm looking forward to the new engine; the truly open world and it's scope, the AI, the dynamic weather systems and the atmosphere that brings.

I'm not sure what I'm lying to myself about, I'm feeling pretty clear on it, seems pretty water tight. What you seem to want is an acknowledgement that AC3 disappointed you, ergo the franchise is ruined and can never be saved. Yours is the opinion with little substance and is based on something other than BF so is relevance is diminished. My opinion of the game was never "go fuck yourself".

@22 you just can't understand so I'll try and relate to something you like. Lets take the BF series. That very successful series has a system they follow. Single player campaign based on a spec ops team trying to stop a terrorist plot. Now lets say EA announces a BF5 as a boxing game. They ignore everything else that has made BF the game it is and decided to slap on the BF name on another game.

Then I come around and say "oh wow, this looks awesome. I love boxing! I hated the military saves the world thing. It's great to see BF adapting and evolving from the same old same old". That is what's happening here.

It's obvious you're not a fan of the original series and that's fine. Just don't sit there and deny the fact that they are ruining the series. Ubisoft, if you guys want to make a pirate game, then go make a dam pirate game. Don't wrap it in the AC brand and try and pretend it's a new chapter in the series. That's bullshit.

@23 - Haahahaha. Don't try to relate to me with an utterly ridiculous analogy, you'll make me trump your pretention with my condescension. How is that in any way a reasoned comparison of what is happening? BF has adapted and evolved, and they have done basically the same thing as is happening here; changed the setting. The core AC system isn't changing. It's not being thrown out and suddenly AC is now Mario Galleon Racing. (at least mine was poignant) You are grasping now... let go.

Its far from obvious that I'm not a fan of the ongoing AC series. I have clearly articulated my interest and why I look forward to this latest chapter.

I've not played an AC game I haven't liked so what is to deny? You are trying to prove something to me, with no argument of your own. Your fervour almost piqued at fanboy.

You had your shot just then at actually saying something and blew it with your ill conceived analogy. But even if it had fit, which it laughably didn't, a simple analogy lacks the deeper substance you were after. You can't refute my reasoned opinion, particularly when yours is based on something other than that which your asking mine on. My enthusiasm does not waive, nor does that of any of the other Day 1 buyers you called idiots.

There was never an argument here. You said we were idiots for buying Day 1, I told you to go fuck yourself. There is no point you can make that ends with you calling me an idiot for not agreeing with you where I don't tell you to go fuck yourself. You asked for something productive and I indulged you. The productivity was a one way but that's ok, I was happy enough when I was succinct. And here we are.

So... this was fun. The bases are covered... anything really from this point just becomes you and "...and another thing!".

Alrighty then.

One note though, don't resort to the use of profanity in your posts, it's childish and no way to win an argument... if only you had made one.
[that works on at least 3 levels]

@24 Wow. So how is life with you head up your ass? It must be hard being so clever and such a condensing asshole using the safety of the internet. I'm sure that goes over well in face to face discussions. People like you are hard to have a discussion with, at least over the internet, so I'm done with you.
