Xbox Fitness App Confirmed For Xbox One
Written By
View author's profile

Microsoft has announced a new fitness app for Xbox One, imaginatively named 'Xbox Fitness'. A subscription-based service, Xbox Fitness includes workout videos from famous trainers and brands including Jillian Michaels, Beachbody 90X (Tony Horton), Insanity (Shaun T), Tracy Anderson and more.

Xbox Fitness will use Kinect to read your heart rate, gauge which muscles you're using, and track how well you're performing by measuring your balance, tempo and form. Kinect can tell how high you're jumping, how hard you're punching and give you constant feedback.

Available free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers until December 2014, Xbox Fitness will deliver personalised recommendations based on past performance and workout history, with sessions lasting between 10 and 60 minutes. You'll also be able to take on challenges including social competition that you can compare with the rest of the XBL community.

Xbox Fitness is scheduled to launch this 'holiday' for Xbox One, with a free Xbox Fitness Pass valid until December 2014 included with Xbox Live Gold. Check out the trailer for more.

That Kinect heart rate sensor, if accurate, surely has a slew of uses. Like this and horror games.

Ok, let's hear all the whining start about this free feature that no one has to use if they don't want to.

@6 Don't real men sit in at the bar drinking beer and talking crap?

I blame the Wii for this fitness business. Surely it would be better to have GAMES that make you work out while actually enjoying a rich storyline rather than a glorified workout DVD.

Normally, I wouldn't be interested...

But with the missus constantly saying she wans to re-join the gym, and not being able to warrant paying for a membership because of lack of time from the both of us... I would honestly give this a go.

We both loved competing on Wii Fit for however long it lasted.

And, I see this as a nice lump of brownie points towards me getting the Xbox One day one, as far as she's concerned.

"hey, there's a fitness thing on the Xbox One if you let me get it"

:D

@6 Any man who does something and thinks it makes them a 'real man' is clearly insecure. A real man does is able to do what he wants without caring what others think. Simple.

@6: "real man"?
and @17: "skinny jean gay anus lover nonsense"?

Come on, you two. Are you both living in the Forties or something? It's a FREE app for getting fit without gym premiums or budgeting extra time out of one's day.

It is NOT a portal to allow your, respectively, sexist and homophobic bullshit.

Grow the fuck up and stay on topic, or bugger the hell off.

@14 here come the people complaining about the people that are complaining about people complaining. Obviously this section is for people to voice their complaints which is why I was complaining. And I wasn't complaining just about people complaining, I was talking about people getting on here bitching about free options that they don't have to use but whine about it like it's being forced down their throat. And it's funny that you got on 13 about contradicting himself when you just said that this section is for people to complain in the same post you complained about me having a complaint.

Good to see that there's a trial period. The initial report I read stated that it'd have an upfront fee -- which I'm sure would have caused problems.

The better news in this is that it can help prevent the oncoming retail copies of fitness games. No need to dig through countless discs when we have a digital app that covers it all means less fitness shovelware.

If there is one thing that works on Kinect it's fitness and dancing, though not sure about whole subscription bussiness... Seeing as I won't be getting Xbone till late next year, I might not even make it to try out for free..

If this includes access to their fitness library(complete or a good portion of), Then I think this would be a great deal.It also depends on what the subscription cost is.Too much and they can forget it.

I can see my fat ass using this, but why only available for a year? This could be really good for people overweight and with achievements added I say go for it.

Either way I can't complain about something that is generally good for my health.

@40 No you just paid between $140-$375 for the P90X set (depending on which one you get. ) and all it does is fitness. You cant do anything else.

@39 It will be free for the first twelve months and then if you choose to continue after that, it will have a monthly fee of some kind.

The Xbox One's Kinect sensor can detect your heart rate? It'd be nice if it could passively screen people for heart conditions and such while they played...

Guess what it has a huge install base, the Xbox one, not to mention its unlikely it will stay free, this is business if Microsoft sees a lot of people using it they will take away its free status. Not to mention EGM commented on how the first version is free but after a year say bye bye to that.
